Oh I'm hooked I've read your first one but second one won't let me read without registering!

TottersBlankly · 02/01/2023 13:45

Oh - that’s odd. I just found it by googling ‘Happy Valley S3 reviews’. Didn’t have to register.

Emotionalsupportviper · 02/01/2023 13:46

Just found this - I've been on your other one but this seems more heavily populated.

I also don't want to binge - I'm going to look on this as a rare and precious gem to be appreciated at leisure.

Loving this thread. Haven’t been able to stop thinking about HV since watching it last night.

I predict a very sad end to it all. Purely based on the fact that this is the last series and there’s no discussion about continuing it. There seems to be such finality suggested by SW and the actors.

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2023 14:20

I did notice a few mentions if Sheffield. The skydiving was, not coincidentally, in Sheffield.

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2023 12:35

Why is he learning Spanish?

That was odd.

I suspect he's 'found God' and was trying to groom the Chaplain.

Not related to the Spanish!

I totally think Tommy is manipulating the chaplain and deliberately disclosed that information to him. I think he's got some sort of plan. I wonder if he's learning Spanish as he's plotting to escape and go on the run to Spain/South America possibly taking Ryan with him 🤷🏻‍♀️

I agree. I'm predicting Rob (the teacher) or Neil to murder Clare, Ryan or Catherine.

I agree.

I don't think they ever necessarily expected a series beyond the first one based on the timeframes of the series.

But something tells me she won't be heading off to the Himalayas in that jeep or she'll be heading off but leaving absolute sadness behind.

Was it a woman? I couldn't tell if they were an effeminate male, female or trans. Yes they must be relevant to be included in a scene. I hope it doesn't all go a bit LOD with their overhyped H storyline.

Definitely a woman - the actor is Belinda O'Hooley who is one half of of O'Hooley and Tidow who sang the theme tune for Sally Wainwright's Gentleman Jack. I love how the same actors pop up time and time again in all SW's dramas.

MavisMcMinty · 02/01/2023 14:50

The shot through the opaque glass seemed to show the O’Hooley character manspreading as wide as it’s possible to manspread.

WinnieFosterReads · 02/01/2023 15:02

It's so funny that posters couldn't tell the character was female especially since (without filters) people usually predict sex with over 90% accuracy and that's just from looking at a face. Considering the actor spoke, you could see their hands and their body language, it's really surprising to me that people couldn't tell. Maybe we're just really conditioned into seeing authority figures as male?

Well in this age of pronouns, trans, non binary etc I don't think we can presume can we. The actor clearly looked masculine but sounded feminine. Of course it doesn't matter if male, female, trans or non binary but I don't think there's anything wrong with asking the question, or is there?

Violetparis · 02/01/2023 15:16

This recap if the first two series is really good. I'd forgotten so much, loved last nights episode.

AutisticLegoLover · 02/01/2023 16:08

I'd forgotten most of that so thank you for posting it.I keep wondering if I could watch it all again but I don't think I could. I want to but I dont think I could bear if. I'm a sensitive soul 😁

BoobsOnTheMoon · 02/01/2023 16:12

Ohhhhhhhh so I just listened to a podcast recap, which reminded me that "Ms Wheland" Moaning Myrtle was actually a pharmacist Shock

Will this become relevant...?

I cant stand the whispery voice. Is it her actual voice? Or is it put on? I might feel slightly bad if it really is her voice...

I just Googled an interview with her to check Grin She doesn't have a whispery voice. She does have quite a young sounding voice and quite a northern Scottish lilt.

ilovebrie8 · 02/01/2023 16:33

Can’t abide the whispery voice actress ! How she stays well the f away!! SW and SL are a winning combo...just wish this wasn’t the last series ...😟

catsnthat · 02/01/2023 16:35

Hopefully she is far far away. Shirley Henderson gets in my wick with her whispery acting.

Oh god and mine, she's the same in everything. Hope she doesn't come back.

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2023 16:39

The thing that always amazes me about Shirley Henderson is how young she looks!

JaneJeffer · 02/01/2023 16:40

I think it's her slight build.

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2023 16:46

Partly but also her face and skin and her jet black hair. I mean she may dye it I guess.

I absolutely could tell, my first thought was that a trans person had been shoe horned in and was most relieved when she was referred to as “Ma’am”.

JaneJeffer · 02/01/2023 16:50

Maybe whispering keeps you young Piggy Grin

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2023 16:59

Oh, that explains why I look like an old crone.

duc748 · 02/01/2023 16:59

It does seem to me to be a thing in TV cop shows in general (not just British ones) that a high proportion of senior police officers are portrayed as women. I suspect that does not reflect real life.
