Yes, they meet their diversity targets rather well in tellyland.

JaneJeffer · 02/01/2023 17:06

For some reason I thought George Costigan had died and I was shocked to see him!

I love Rick Warden in this.

BethDuttonsTwin · 02/01/2023 17:20

Did anyone else notice that both Catherine and Tommy say, in their respective first scenes, “How Do?” in the same tone of voice? I like little touches like that.

DoIWantThis · 02/01/2023 17:30

I found it odd that Catherine would have let the injunction thing slip....

Sodie · 02/01/2023 18:00

Is there an option to watch all in one go on iplayer,?

FunctionalSkills · 02/01/2023 18:10

No it's weekly!

LindorDoubleChoc · 02/01/2023 18:12

Going to have to re-watch the last 20 minutes as I completely lost interest in it.

What's that ludicrous scar on Tommy's forehead? It must be recent - not from 7 years ago?

If Catherine dies at the very last moment I'll feel terribly let down. That plot line is rather over-used.

wavingfuriously · 02/01/2023 18:19

What's the story with James Norton s son?

Yes, I did! Thoughtful writing.

Well unless he's still got stitches from 7 years ago yes Grin

Poke · 02/01/2023 18:22

In later scenes of episode 1, the scar is much less visible.

Perime · 02/01/2023 20:20

It said he'd been in a fight

IncognitoBirthday · 02/01/2023 20:44

The excessive use of "fuck/fucking" by Catherine strikes me as unusual. And the forgetfulness - both symptoms of early onset Alzheimer's/Dementia.

I hope I'm wrong.

Highfivemum · 02/01/2023 20:51

I love SW writing but if Catherine is killed off I will be hugely disappointed. We need her to have some happiness, maybe with Nev who although older plays a lovely character.

SenseFromThoughtDivide · 02/01/2023 20:54

I wonder if TLJ deliberately leaked the story of the body in a barrel killing, just so he would hauled into a court, and thus an opportunity for his bosses to release him

BethDuttonsTwin · 02/01/2023 20:54

If it turns out Clare has been going behind her back to take Ryan to see Tommy, then I will not be sorry to see her get some kind of comeuppance.

melonraspberry · 02/01/2023 21:12

I just caught up with this. I wasn’t prepared for the abusive husband. I’ve been in a dv relationship and it was eerily accurate, really got in my head. The actress was superb as was the writing.

TottersBlankly · 02/01/2023 21:16

Actually yes, @SenseFromThoughtDivide - again, given how proud he was of those scars, it’s more than possible he did set up the whole ‘discovery of corpse’ thing for some nefarious purpose of his own.

It’s a chilling thought … His initial denials were decidedly lacklustre, and then he made a partial confession which simply caused bewilderment. Yes, it looks like a master plan …

Yes, I think that's more than likely.

Whitwhit · 02/01/2023 22:35

I’ve just watched last night’s episode.
As has been previously discussed, I’m also wracking my brains as to who is taking Ryan to see TLR.
I can’t see it being Ann or Daniel. Because of what she went through and she’s very loyal to Catherine.
I can’t see it being Nevison because of what TLR did to Ann.
I’d be really surprised if it was Claire. But then HV is known for its shockers. And Neil does have previous for iffy behaviour.

Agree there’s something going on with the kid and the coat.

TLR looks unnervingly like my ex with his current long hair look. 😳

Whitwhit · 02/01/2023 22:37

Meant to add.
So my current thought is Neil and mystery woman. With a backstory / connection between Neil and TLR.

AutisticLegoLover · 02/01/2023 22:40

@IwantToRetire thanks for the family tree!

I totally think Tommy is manipulating the chaplain and deliberately disclosed that information to him. I think he's got some sort of plan. I wonder if he's learning Spanish as he's plotting to escape and go on the run to Spain/South America possibly taking Ryan with him 🤷🏻‍♀️

I also thought it was his intention to somehow get out and take Ryan to Spain. Perhaps he and the Drugs Brothers have an arrangement - they get him out (as they have failed to silence him - I'm assuming they are responsible for his impressive scar) and he'll keep quiet about their culpability in the murder of quarry corpse etc.

WinnieFosterReads · 02/01/2023 15:02

It's so funny that posters couldn't tell the character was female especially since (without filters) people usually predict sex with over 90% accuracy and that's just from looking at a face. Considering the actor spoke, you could see their hands and their body language, it's really surprising to me that people couldn't tell. Maybe we're just really conditioned into seeing authority figures as male?

Agree - it was obvious to me that it was a woman - but DH wasn't sure at first.

However women are supposed to have a better instinct for the biological sex of an androgynous person - it's a survival mechanism, and hard-wired in almost all of us.

Emotionalsupportviper · 02/01/2023 22:58

Foxyy · 02/01/2023 15:08

Well in this age of pronouns, trans, non binary etc I don't think we can presume can we. The actor clearly looked masculine but sounded feminine. Of course it doesn't matter if male, female, trans or non binary but I don't think there's anything wrong with asking the question, or is there?

Nothing wrong at all.
