Happy Valley series 3 to be shown at Christmas?

Does anyone have more info about this, ie the actual date it starts.

I'm planning to re watch series 1 & 2 and dont want to find myself like I did in the run up to the last series of Spiral having to watch 2 or 3 episodes a day to be ready in time!

Also for anyone in Halifax you can get tickets to a premiere of the series, with cast and writer to answer questions at the end. www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/tv/bbcs-happy-valley-premiere-showing-25620058

I want to know this too because, although I've watched series one and two myself, I want to watch them again with dh who hasn't seen them before watching series 3.

PAFMO · 30/11/2022 19:53

I also want to watch them again.
I reckon a possibility could be that week after New Year when all the scheduling changes and new stuff comes on.

IwantToRetire · 30/11/2022 20:40

I was hoping some efficient person had already bought a tv guide for christmas. But maybe it is still a bit early. They are probably trying to think when would have the biggest impact.

Off topic but I think I saw a trailer for a news series of Strike to start within the week, so watch out for that if you liked the early series.

The double Christmas Tv Quick isn't out yet

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 01/12/2022 06:49

Can’t wait! I’m all ready for the new series 🙂 I’ve frequently revised the first two series and could already sit the exam if required!!

TomAllenWife · 01/12/2022 06:51

Why not just watch 1&2 now
Does it have to be perfectly timed?

I've just rewatched both, just one episode a day

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/12/2022 06:53

I don’t know where I heard this, but I thought 14th December? But don’t quote me!
I have been rewatching, I had forgotten how good and how incredibly sinister series 1 is, and can’t even remember the plot of series 2. Sarah Lancashire is an absolute goddess, I love her.

IwantToRetire · 01/12/2022 15:14

Yes I am going to start watching but if say series 3 was in 10 days I would need to get a move on! Am hoping in the next week or so things will calm down (for me) as each time I watch anything now I just fall asleep.

Have seen that Strike is starting on 11th which is a sunday, the BBC1 prime slot. Assuming it stays there for 4 weeks, maybe Happy Valley is a new year treat, as surely that will get the Sunday slot?

While searching for something else I saw a notice saying series three will start on 1 January 2021 at 9pm!

So looks like it will be getting the sunday slot.

Awesome. I’ve binge watched the 2 series this week and now very excited for series 3!

Ilovehamandtoast · 04/12/2022 05:26

Ohhhhh in excited about this. Really loved the first two. Might watch them again

ShaunaTheSheep · 04/12/2022 22:37

I didn't watch previously but just watched series 1 and 2 - really enjoyed it.

I did the same with Last Tango in Halifax.

Has Sarah Lancashire been in anything else worth bingeing?

I didn't hate Kiri or The Accident, she's in both. Kiri is the better of the two I think.

Don't actually remember how s2 ended, will James Norton be involved? I love him

AutisticLegoLover · 04/12/2022 23:05

It's the last series too. I couldn't watch series 1 and 2 again. I'm still traumatised. Really hard hitting and it takes a lot to 😱 me but some of the scenes really upset me. SL is awesome. I can't decide whether to watch as I go or save it and binge. Same with the new Strike.

Clawdy · 04/12/2022 23:13

James Norton is definitely in the new series, looking rather different. I think most of the original cast are back.

2023willbegreat · 04/12/2022 23:33

Radio Times has more cast and other information, article published today.

Snugglepiggy · 06/12/2022 22:18

Just finished rewatching both series.I had forgotten how utterly brilliant they were.Gripping, heartbreaking, tense and funny .Incredible writing and Sarah Lancashire amazing. Ready for the next one now.

ScottishAngryBird · 06/12/2022 22:50

It’s back New Years Day, BBC1 at 9pm and I cannot wait!! It’s brilliant but this is the last one! Sad about that

XenoBitch · 06/12/2022 23:10

Really? It feels like we have been waiting for a new series forever!
I don't think I could stomach a refresher watch of the previous series though. Happy it isn't!

middleager · 06/12/2022 23:37

Rewatching S1 as my husband has never seen it. Hopefully finish S2 by New Year!
I told him he had to watch it as it is one of the best (albeit disturbing) watches. Sarah Lancashire is as superb as I remember, as are the rest of the cast.

IwantToRetire · 23/12/2022 16:35

I know there are a number of threads now about series 3 but came back to this one to say I have now rewatched series 1!

Only 6 episodes, so not the problem of time I thought it was going to be, to get up to date by New Year.

I had forgotten (the same as I did with the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) the level of violence against women, not just shown but lurking at the edges of women's lives.

And had not remembered enough of the plot so I was able to watch thinking, oh no, what will happen next.

But I'm really embarrassed that I had no memory of the sister, who after all is a major part of the storyline.

In some ways I find Sally Wainwright's writing almost signalling this next bit will break your heart, but it is so convincing it does! There aren't many dramas that show women's lives in this way. Nor in fact the life of those on the margins.

So I'm going to watch silly frivolous festive shows over the weekend, and then prepare myself for series 2.

I binge-watched both series in preparation for the third. It must be about the fourth time I've watched this series and it never gets stale.

Really looking forward to the new series - it can't come soon enough for me.

ScottishAngryBird · 24/12/2022 09:01

I have seen the clip for season 3 and it looks amazing! Not that I was expecting any less! It’s been 6 years since season 2 and I knew that the writer, Sally Wainwright, was waiting until the character of Ryan had grown up a tad, this must be so that Ryan being a teenager means that if he contacts Tommy Lee, then he is old enough to not need his grans permission.

On a different note then James Norton looks gorgeous as the bad Tommy Lee Royce, a bit of eye candy never goes amiss in TV.😬

Emotionalsupportviper · 24/12/2022 13:41

Hard to resist a Bad Boy when he's so pretty, isn't it? 😀

As long as he's on the telly and not in real life . . .
