Just thought we could start with a dedicated thread to series three of Happy Valley.

If the order for no contact etc from TLR elapsed, he’d probably write to Ryan? That’s part of why it makes me think it’s Claire and Neil. They could have seen/intercepted something or were around when Ryan opened it etc. Think there’s been a fair amount of hints for this. Catherine's repeated insistence on not being sure about Neil. Her ex kinda hesitated when Catherine said Claire never would do such a thing. Claire commenting that she never knows what to tell Catherine or keep from
her. Suppose we’ll find out on Monday.

Did Roz ever find out that Catherine slept with him though? I don’t think so.

I think it may be Claire tha staking Ryan to see TL because she would always sort of stick up for TLR by saying “it is his dad”, and this was in reference to the birthday present he got and the fact that Ryan had been to see TL in that canal boat.

On a different note then if Daniel had said to Catherine that Becky loved TL, (a different poster said this) then this makes me really really think that it wasn’t TL who raped Becky. What I want to know is how come TL didn’t know Becky was dead until his mum told him, it was this because he was in prison and had just gotten out in the first series?

You can be raped by someone you love. There's not going to be a big reveal that TLR didn't rape Becky. It would be really irresponsible writing and undermine the whole series.

I think it's Catherine's ex and maybe his in the spare room wife Roz. He couldn't accept or take to Ryan at all at first. I'd hate for it to be Claire.

Trouble is that the whole of series 1 and series 2 was based on the angle that TLR was abusive to Becky, raped her and that it why she killed herself. Just because Daniel didn't like his sister doesn't mean she wasn't in an abusive relationship with TLR.

To change that whole angle in series 3 bringing in another dad/another rapist would totally undermine the whole point of series 1 and 2. In my opinion.

Just seen James Norton on Graham Norton. He said that TLR loves Ryan. From what we have seen so far, I would say that TLR rather has a possessive family annihilator's attitude towards Ryan, but his comment makes me think that maybe TLR could die saving Ryan either from the gangsters or from Horrible PE Teacher.

It’s true there’ll be no closure if the season ends with TLR still living. We’ve seen what he’s done in past seasons - there’s no possibility of him magically transforming into ‘nice dad’. His only redemption could come from dying for a good cause - and saving his son would be nicely circular.

The fact her brother is so vitriolic over Becky never sat quite right with me, now I’m wondering if he had something to do with the rape alluded to. It doesn’t make sense to me that he’s so vicious towards a sister who committed suicide.

My predictions are that Con O’Neil is a sleeper character and comes to life in this series. I think he has unfinished business (which is not based on rational thought)with Catherine that even she is unaware of. He is using the sister. It may be that he is TLR’s Dad.

Sadly, I don’t think she’s going to the foothills of the Himalayas (not just because of the unreliability of the unaffordable LR Defender 😂) but because the only way you guarantee the absolute termination of a series is to kill off the lead character 😢 I think she’ll be allowed a modicum of happiness with a couple of dinner dates with Nev before the end.

Agree the dynamic between Becky and her brother was odd and may also be revisited. I don’t believe they’ll rewrite the TLR rape storyline because attempting to set your son on fire is rather indicative of psychopathic behaviour but I think Becky may have been vulnerable to an attack by TLR because of abuse by her brother? I think that the flashback to the Susan Lynch character killing her own son at the farm because she realised he is a wrong’un at the start of the episode is relevant. I think this is how the series might end. Catherine kills her own son after realising she missed abuse within her own home?

I think I remember Daniel having it out with Catherine years ago saying Becky was sainted yet lived a druggie life whereas he was berated and did nothing of the sort

didnt Catherine even say she’d wished Daniel was the one who’d died? I can totally understand daniels venom toward Becky after all that.
