I am absolutely convinced that both Catherine and TLR will die. There is no other way of ending it.

I think you're right.

A Reichenbach Falls denouement. I can't see what else they can do - but I'd love to see her drive off into the sunset with Nev.

There is a podcast on BBC Sounds which seems to be coming out around the same time as the episodes, though they do warn about spoilers. I listened to it after I'd watched the programme so I didn't risk ruining anything for myself.

JaneJeffer · 05/01/2023 12:04

See now all I can picture is Claire joining them Rita, Sue and Bob too style

MavisMcMinty · 05/01/2023 12:11

who would have thought 30 years ago that Raquel Wolstenhulme would be one of the most gritty, beloved actors in the country

I remember my Dad - a talented amateur thesp himself - remarking on what a great actress she was all those years ago as Raquel in Corrie, and at the time I probably rolled my eyes and assumed he fancied her.

ScottishAngryBird · 05/01/2023 12:49

Did TLR definitely rape Catherine’s daughter? I mean I know he is a complete psycho but he did say to Catherine that he had loved Becky and maybe she got pregnant to TLR but was raped by someone else? It’s just something that swirls around my mind.

I do agree with the poster above about CC and TLR possibly dying, but I think it will only be TLR who dies, I don’t think Catherine will.

longtompot · 05/01/2023 12:54

@ScottishAngryBird I would say he did just by how he reframed events to the school teacher when he was in prison to make him look the poor innocent party. I wonder if the truth will out in this final series?

MavisMcMinty · 05/01/2023 12:56

Yes, @ScottishAngryBird - that’s what I’ve been wondering since the very first series. “Becky was no angel”, as both Catherine and son Daniel have said, coupled with TLR’s denial of rape and protestations of love. Of course TLR is a psychopathic liar, and of course it’s terrible to “blame the victim” but there’s certainly room for development of that original story.

FawnDrench · 05/01/2023 14:37

I think Ryan will have to make a choice between his father and his gran and this will be the ending.
Possibly he will have to kill one to save the other, but even that's not twisty enough...
They will all perish, one way or another.

I hope I'm wrong but I think they are going to have to destroy each other. Perhaps SW was playing with the clichéd 'cop discussing approaching retirement is instantly doomed' trope with the conversation about the Land Rover.

ilovebrie8 · 05/01/2023 14:59

I hope Catherine doesn't get killed, she is brill! What an actress I know who would have thought Raquel from Corrie all those years ago...

cantcope88 · 05/01/2023 16:28

I have a feeling it will end with Ryan killing TLR in some altercation and spending the rest of his life in prison.

Sulusu · 05/01/2023 16:35

I think Anne was behaving slightly off in some way at the family dinner. Maybe it's her and Daniel taking Ryan? But surely Anne couldn't do that? I just had odd vibes during that scene.

TLR raped Anne & got her on heroin, kidnapped her for days too and so I don’t believe in any way that she would take Ryan to the jail to see TLR; she will hate him!

LindorDoubleChoc · 05/01/2023 18:25

Why TF would anyone who is close to Catherine facilitate Ryan visiting Tommy in prison? Don't they know what he's like, what he did? It's got to be a stranger otherwise just beyond belief / too far fetched.

longtompot · 05/01/2023 18:59

I agree @LindorDoubleChoc & @ScottishAngryBird There would have to be some very tenuous reason for her to do that.
Just thinking about Daniel though, he never believed his sister was raped, that was part of why he stopped talking to his mum. Could he still be thinking that?

I remember Daniel saying to Catherine that Becky loved him…..TLR that is

TottersBlankly · 05/01/2023 19:19

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh …

So - Daniel and ???

Clare?

Which other women are there apart from Ann, who wouldn’t?

Poke · 05/01/2023 19:24

But Daniel wouldn’t do that to Annie, not now he’s in a relationship with her.

Highfivemum · 05/01/2023 19:42

BlueThursday · 05/01/2023 08:14

I’ll be gutted when it finishes knowing it’s the end but it will remain drama gold for not having been churned out series after series for the sake of it (looking at you LOD)

who would have thought 30 years ago that Raquel Wolstenhulme would be one of the most gritty, beloved actors in the country

I love her but still can’t forgive her for what she did to Curley 😉

LindorDoubleChoc · 05/01/2023 19:47

Obviously Clare comes across as seems a bit dim (kindly, but suppose she's missing a lot of her cognitive abilities after years of various addictions) but WHY would she think Ryan needs a relationship with his rapist, murdering father? She's not THAT stupid surely. If it turns out she is then Sally W will go down a bit in my estimation.

Me and a few others on the thread believe she’s been manipulated by Neil.

I think we’re in for some amazing scenes this Sunday with Sarah Lancashire and Siobhan Finneran.

Highfivemum · 05/01/2023 19:54

The only ones I see who could take Ryan are Daniels wife ( not Anne but his wife ) she had a child with him and has been ditched for Anne. So she may want a bit of revenge. Richards wife who also has a reason for revenge as Catherine and Richard never stopped sleeping together.
and Claire’s new fella who is a strange one. Recovering addict so maybe he is related to Tommy or just being blackmailed. Claire did give some little comments about she can’t tell Catherine things and Ryan talks to her but I can’t see her betraying Catherine unless she is being manipulated.

can’t wait for next one

He really was punching well above, wasn't he Smile

LindorDoubleChoc · 05/01/2023 20:19

That's a hell of a stretch re. manipulation by Neil. Her new fella (ex addict) v her sister who has stood by her through thick and thin? I don't buy it ... but let's see what Sally W thinks we'll believe.

I've just found this when checking when the next episode is. Clues are there but still, who could it be?
