Matt Lucas to leave GBBO. Hallelujah!

Sky news reporting tonight that Matt Lucas says he doesn't have time for GBBO anymore, which IMO means he's been asked to leave as he completely unfunny and utterly annoying.

I cannot bear his puerile "antics" on GBBO and am at a loss why he was ever appointed or indeed why he has a reputation for being amusing. He has been the worst part of the show for the last three years.

I wonder who they will get in. Really needs to be female to balance it up.

I think they should pick someone like Joey Essex or Rylan. Someone who hasn’t a clue about baking at all and asks mad questions.

Not Rylan. His super white teeth un nerve me. And I can't bear the name Rylan!

I liked him and Noel Fielding.

Me too.
I have nothing against Matt or Noel

Newnamenewname109870 · 03/03/2023 22:02

I miss Sandi!

Newnamenewname109870 · 03/03/2023 22:03

I wouldn’t actually mind Rylan but we need a woman!

I don't know why people are suddenly pearl clutching about Little Britain. It was a product of its time and it was funny.

It wasn't funny then and it isn't now.

CuteCillian · 03/03/2023 22:07

I vote Susan Calman - I miss her on the Great British Menu.

lollipoprainbow · 03/03/2023 22:17

Ellie Taylor would be great

ArcaneWireless · 04/03/2023 00:22

If they put Joey in, I would have to stop watching.

I’d rather watch PH satisfy himself in a trifle on a 24hr loop than that.

😂

God no. She was absolutely awful. I mean GBM is boring now anyway but she made it unwatchable. I love Andi.

I thought it was funny at the time.

i agree Matt Lucas is miscast in this role and I don’t enjoy watching him. They need a female comic who is much more on the ball than Noel Fielding. Ideally they’d have a partnership between two women comics and retire NF too.

I think they should try Rose Matafeo who is brilliantly funny and as an NZ person could poke fun at the Britishness of taking tea and cake so seriously.

Also there are comedy actors that I would love to see in interactive with contestants type presenting roles, like Lucy Punch (Amanda from Motherland) who is a genius comic actress and I bet would absolutely shine. Or Diane Morgan (Liz from Motherland) who has the platonic ideal of beautiful comedy timing.

I have never got Matt Lucas (or David Walliams) and find their humour sneery and creepy and male-superior. This is great news for Bake Off.

WhartyFif · 04/03/2023 07:39

To put my Matt alucas comnents into perspective to echo a PP:
Not a massive Matt Lucas fan but I'd have been more please to hear Leith and Hollywood had been given the shove.

Hear hear! Redo the judges. The cult of Paul Hollywood is way too self referential and Prue Leith seems to be relying on wearing accessories for impact.

Nadiya Hussein plus a new find from actual baking please to judge. Have the comics have more of a role and leave the judges to judge on expertise. I love the show and format and hope it runs forever.

WhartyFif · 04/03/2023 07:49

I’m over invested now but 100% yes also to Joanna Lumley who is the queen of comedy. i also love Romesh Ranganathan.

Fizbosshoes · 04/03/2023 08:15

I felt one of the reasons Matt and Noel didn't work was that neither of them seemed remotely interested in food/baking/ingredients or the bakers themselves.
....but I'm pretty sure Joanna Lumley isn't that interested in food from what I've read in interviews although she might be better with the bakers or at least pretend she likes cake

Janieread · 04/03/2023 08:17

I don't think anyone halfway famous would touch it with a bargepole.

Beautifulsunflowers · 04/03/2023 08:23

Fay ripley would be good but Ellie Taylor would be more likely.
Nadiya Hussein should replace Prue. Her cooking is fab, she uses simple shortcuts and they could bring back some basic recipes, it has got too complicated.

MissyB1 · 04/03/2023 08:34

In terms of judges experienced in baking, what about Jane Asher?

I thought I heard they were paring it down or doing more simple challenges next series.
I'd prefer to see people do something well than (in the technical challenge especialy) they are sometimes grading from mediocre to complete disaster where no one has either heard of or had time to fulfil the brief.

WhartyFif · 04/03/2023 08:47

Brilliant shout Jane Asher! She’s apparently very very nice and naughtily funny according to someone I know who met her. Great idea.

WhartyFif · 04/03/2023 08:48

For a judge I mean in case that wasn’t clear.

Yes this!!
I would like to see more baking of classic cakes too.

PritiPatelsMaker · 04/03/2023 08:55

Am I the on my one that likes Noel? I think he's great in the role and loved him and Sandi together.

KnickerlessParsons · 04/03/2023 09:04

I'll throw in Miranda Hart as my suggestion. I think she'd be great in the role.

KnickerlessParsons · 04/03/2023 09:07

And I'd like them to bring in the historical section too, where they go off to Austria to find out about the history of the Sachertorte etc.
