Matt Lucas to leave GBBO. Hallelujah!

Sky news reporting tonight that Matt Lucas says he doesn't have time for GBBO anymore, which IMO means he's been asked to leave as he completely unfunny and utterly annoying.

I cannot bear his puerile "antics" on GBBO and am at a loss why he was ever appointed or indeed why he has a reputation for being amusing. He has been the worst part of the show for the last three years.

I wonder who they will get in. Really needs to be female to balance it up.

I fear you are right. I'd prefer a serious but friendly competition, focussing on baking skill rather than elaborate decorating and weird ways of trying to get the competitors to bare their souls in cake form. More like the Sewing Bee.

Can't stand Alison, completely wrong for Bake Off, too loud. I won't be watching anymore.

Bake was always there with the likes of Wimbledon, Cricket,Pimms and picnics. Very genteel, quintessentially British, you could almost hear leather on wood. When it was on during lockdown/covid It was a piece of normality in a crazy world.

Just googled her and I've never watched anything she's been in. If she's a full on loud personality I think that will be a huge mistake. Can't believe that I might have come to the end with Bake Off. 🙁

I think it's a good choice for diversity reasons but hopefully she'll tone it down a bit.

I feel exactly the same. I can't stand her and I think she will ruin it. Everything she is on she tries to make all about her. With her fake laugh, calling everyone "babe" and her awful shouty voice.

I am beyond annoyed. I think we should start a petition. Judging by The Mail comments lots of people think it is an awful idea

There's something really genuinely depressing about UK reality TV at the moment. I only watch the Oz versions of things - far more cheery with healthier looking people!

I didn’t think Matt was good for the role either but I like him in general - I think you have to be a certain ‘type’ - Noel is good but him and Sandi together were great!

I like Matt but agree that him and Noel were not a good double match, like two silly boys laughing at their own jokes, Harry Hill is brilliant with the on kids Kate off, couldn’t it been him?
Yes it’s lost it’s way too many difficult challenges and the Paul Hollywood handshake annoys me now. Bring back Mel and Sue!

C4 have decided it must be about Diversity. How awful to have a lot of very skilful white middle class older women on a show. If there happens to be one now they are voted out very quickly.
