Matt Lucas to leave GBBO. Hallelujah!

Sky news reporting tonight that Matt Lucas says he doesn't have time for GBBO anymore, which IMO means he's been asked to leave as he completely unfunny and utterly annoying.

I cannot bear his puerile "antics" on GBBO and am at a loss why he was ever appointed or indeed why he has a reputation for being amusing. He has been the worst part of the show for the last three years.

I wonder who they will get in. Really needs to be female to balance it up.

Actually, this is what I think too. Although I am still enjoying watching Bake Off having not been an early adopter - it's had it's day.

And at the same time ... Strictly still fucking dancing after decades. PLEASE can we detach ourselves as a nation from this worn out show and format?

It used to be my favourite show, but I just can't watch it since Noel joined. I just don't understand how anyone can find him watcheable.

I wouldn't watch if he was on. I find him very disingenuous. I didn't like him as a comedian but after his behaviour towards his ex, I like him even less.

I liked Matt Lucas but I think the show were expecting him to do more like when he did Boris at the beginning of the series but throughout, which he didn't really do. I thought he was kind to the contestants.
I like Noel too, but he doesn't really gel with some of the contestants, and some looked rather confused by what he said sometimes. When they get him and what he says it is really funny.
As for Tom Allen. I would have agreed with everyone's comments about not liking him due to extra slice but I watched him on bbc2 between the covers last night and hearing him talk with his normal voice I think he would really work. But he wouldn't do that and he would have to be 'funny'.
Not sure who they will have lined up but it will be interesting to see

Did this come out a few weeks ago? I saw something about it today and thought it was old news as I'm certain I read he was leaving a while ago.

If not, ignore me and I'll be off to try and dream the lottery numbers!

I'm not a fan of Matt and Noel doesn't even eat cakes so he's just inappropriate in my opinion.

Probably, But considering Channel 4 paid several squllion quid for the rights to the show I doubt that's going to happen just yet.

Sandi is the only one I took to after Mel and Sue went.

I might be all bah humbug but the dynamic has never been quite righy/balanced since Mel, Sue and Mary went. They kept Paul in check in a way that nobody else has since managed. I do think it's time to retire it.

Having said that, has anybody suggested Nadia Hussain? She's proven to be good on camera and would have empathy for contestants, both because she seems like a lovely person and through personal experience. I think the show needs more kind hearted presenters back into it (and that feminine quality is perhaps why people are saying they think it needs women.)

I had h go off hopes after his Boris sketch. But he was really disappointing and not funny. So I'm glad. Completely bored with baked off now though.

I generally don't love Stacy Solomon but tbh I've only seen her in those annoying jewellery ads and on Loose Women! So I'll reserve judgement. I am not really a fan though and think there are warmer, funnier choices on here.

Forgot about Romesh Ranganathan being vegan. That would make him a strange choice I think, although Noel doesn't eat any of it either as it's too calorie dense for him

I think Stacey would be great, I've never seen her on Loose Women but she was great on Sort Your Life Out (decluttering / house makeover show) last year, really kind and empathetic toward the participants.
