Boy George is a more terrible person than Matt Hancock and I'm sick of people pretending he isn't

Why does he get a pass for his brutal, clearly sexually motivated crime (he threatened the guy with whips and sex toys) and still have a career?

I'm so irritated I'm having to sound like I'm defending Hancock, a corrupt, inept Tory who cheated on his wife. He personifies everything wrong with Johnston's cabinet, but no he didn't kill thousands, Covid did. The decision to return vulnerable people from hospital to care homes was a terrible one, but we did the exact same thing in Scotland. He isn't a sex offender.

If Boy George had chained up a female sex worker and beat her with an iron bar and threatened to rape her with sex toys he wouldn't have ever had the opportunity to be on TV again.

@x2boys
''BG was jailed in 2009 so it was over a decade ago but not decades ago ,if he had falsely imprisoned a women and chained her to a radiator would mumsnet be quite so forgiving i wonder 🤔''

Again, what is it you are trying to achieve? You don't have to watch him on TV or buy his records or like him.

I think the ''if it had been a woman'' is just tasteless. The gender is irrelevant.

What he did was wrong and he was sent to jail for it.I assume he has retained enough fans and popularity to keep himself in business. You don't have to be one of them.

I am not quite sure why you think anyone who has committed a criminal act, did their time in jail and then managed to get their life back on track and never reoffend should be asking for ''forgiveness'' for the rest of their life and not be allowed to make an income.

I just can't get worked up about this. It just smacks of self-righteousness and pettiness disguised as genuine care for the victim.

PickledRat · 19/11/2022 21:01

Did we ever find out who put the cameras up that caught him groping and kissing? Obviously someone had it in for him. But I don’t think anyone is getting bullied on this show, both BH & MH have massive egos and are capable of looking after themselves. I find MH particularly unlikable, BG is also flawed but seems to have a better personality.

twelly · 19/11/2022 21:17

I think taking the show at face value without thinking about the past Matt Hancock comes across as likeable and someone who just enters into the spirit of things. I don't think he has been rude or unpleasant
I am not a tory voter and would not vote tory, that does not stop me liking people who are tories - I suspect that a number of the celebrities on the show vote tory, people's political views do not necessarily define them.

Of course MH has not made errors of judgement and of course we know we know about these - we don't know about everyone's errors of judgment. It is for this reason that I have been watching the programme for the first time taking everything at face value.

Theunamedcat · 19/11/2022 21:31

Was matt Hancock solely responsible for the decision to send people back to care homes? Because boy George was solely responsible for his actions he made his choices and it effected his victim badly

Covid was a shite show no-one knew what they were doing the government was absolutely caught pants down (despite having a pandemic plan in place) it's wrong to blame one person for the decisions of the government

And no im not a tory voter never have been but this insistence of blaming one man for everything? Doesn't sit well with me sorry

BG only looks happy when he is holding court and talking about himself. He’s not a team player.

62daisy · 20/11/2022 07:44

Well said xx

Fieldfly · 20/11/2022 07:57

I find it interesting that BG assumes that everyone hates MH and all tories. Statistics suggest that quite a few of the camp vote Tory. I’ve a colleague like this - goes round loudly proclaiming that anyone who votes Tory is a c*. They are a likeable, cheerful person (unlike BG) it’s not done with any malice - it just doesn’t occur to them that some people they consider friends might be tories. Everyone else keeps quite because although we do discuss politics most people keep their actual voting choices to themselves. BG thinks he hates all tories, but in fact he likes lots of them without realising it.
I didn’t realise Charlene was a loose woman - thought she said she was a journalist? Surely a journalist would grab an opportunity to ‘study’ someone like MH - they just need to behave in a non judgemental fashion at the time and then discuss it all later?

You only have to go on the politicsl threads on here to find that kind of behaviour ( usually from those who vote labour )is quite common ,they absolutley beleive they are right and anybody who disagrees with their political stance is either a "cunt" or thick ,now 8m sure not all labour voters are like that but there is a very vocal minority

WhoDatDen · 20/11/2022 08:56

Agree X2boys. It is only a minority who post on the political threads/Brexit threads making them an echo chamber and only left wing views are welcome. Anyone else is considered far right, stupid, racist. So no one comments because they are intolerant of other views.

So the silent majority sit back.

And then the intolerant are gobsmacked at the results.

Exactly this 👏👏👏

BlueWalnut · 20/11/2022 09:25

Not watching and maybe you are all younger than my friends but I don’t know anyone who is. 🤷‍♀️

HeadNorth · 20/11/2022 10:26

I think you need to be pretty old to have heard of Boy George 😁

He's been consistently in the media since the early eighties. He was on C4 performing at a Pride event a few months ago. What rock do you live under?

Miss03852 · 20/11/2022 10:58

Yes exactly he was big in my eighties, I wasn’t born in the eighties! I’d never heard of him or Culture Club

MissDollyMix · 20/11/2022 11:31

Even if you weren’t born in the 80s, you’re surely familiar with some of his songs though?!

ancientgran · 20/11/2022 12:12

On a trivial note what has BG done with his teeth? I can't work out if they are his or dentures but sometimes he's whistling when he talks and sometimes he isn't. His teeth are starting to fascinate me. I think they have a personality of their own.

ancientgran · 20/11/2022 12:13

Maybe it is because I have a dental appointment tomorrow!

Readinginthesun · 20/11/2022 12:21

Charlene has given an interview and is still banging on about impartiality. I think she must have read some of the negative stuff about her actions and is trying to justify herself. The fact is in trying to show impartiality, she showed herself to be the opposite .
BG’s teeth remind me of Ross in Friends !

ancientgran · 20/11/2022 12:27

I never watched Friends but I must have a look at it to see "the teeth."

Oooh where did she give an interview?

Artygirlghost · 20/11/2022 13:13

''@HeadNorth

He was a judge on the Voice here and in Australia only a few years ago.

I know the DM is frowned upon on MN but Charlene seemed ok speaking to them !
