Boy George is a more terrible person than Matt Hancock and I'm sick of people pretending he isn't

Why does he get a pass for his brutal, clearly sexually motivated crime (he threatened the guy with whips and sex toys) and still have a career?

I'm so irritated I'm having to sound like I'm defending Hancock, a corrupt, inept Tory who cheated on his wife. He personifies everything wrong with Johnston's cabinet, but no he didn't kill thousands, Covid did. The decision to return vulnerable people from hospital to care homes was a terrible one, but we did the exact same thing in Scotland. He isn't a sex offender.

If Boy George had chained up a female sex worker and beat her with an iron bar and threatened to rape her with sex toys he wouldn't have ever had the opportunity to be on TV again.

I'm friends with George and I've known the family for over 30 years. I was with his sister the night he got arrested and she had to go to the police station after a call from their brother. What you've read in the media is not the whole story. I was at the court case. George served his time, became Buddhist and for the past 14years has lived a clean, sober, spiritual life. He is a mentor for others that are drug dependent and trying to get clean. He is a lovely man, he's kind and very funny and his family are fabulous (his mum is a second nan to my children and my daughter is best friends with his neice as they were brought up together - now 23).
He served his time in 2009 and learnt a lot from the experience. Give him a break, he is not a monster, far from it.

He didn't serve enough time. Also if you are his friend, remind him people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

balalake · 17/11/2022 20:06

Boy George is a convicted criminal and seemed to have a lenient sentence and we should not forget this.

Matt Hancock should be facing criminal proceedings along with Boris Johnson, on several charges including corporate manslaughter.

Theunamedcat · 17/11/2022 20:14

If he has been clean for 14 years doesn't that mean je was clean when he offended? That takes us back to 2008?

Readinginthesun · 17/11/2022 20:16

Was he not also found guilty of falsely claiming he had been burgled ? Think it was in America .

youcantry · 17/11/2022 20:38

@PinkTonic I don't think he is lovely, I know that he is.
He is a great brother, son, uncle and friend. My parents are elderly, in their 80s and George helps them out. As he does his mum (85). He works tirelessly with drug addicts. He has been a mentor to his many nieces and nephews and does what he can for our kids. He Sponsors and attends events at their schools and offers to mentor young people. He's arranged apprenticeships for many of my friends' children.
He is living a decent, clean and sober life.

good, I hope his victim will be glad for him. He’s still coming over like a twat.

also, has he got his people on the case? It’s like a BG appreciation tag team on here over the past couple of days. So obvious and tedious.

Well maybe he could be nicer to his camp mates ?

lightisnotwhite · 17/11/2022 22:20

Yeah the Krays loved their mum too.

He was the only one being a twat to his team mates, Shaun was making a joke of his balls not being picked whilst BJ was actually complaining.
And the snide comment about MH still having to be MH. From someone who was once a convicted criminal and is now a “different” BJ. He’s not nice.

tiggergoesbounce · 17/11/2022 23:05

Im not a Boy George fan but the clip i saw of him being quizzed i thought he handled fine, of course he was going to look displeased, who would want it talking about. But he answered what was asked of him, he said :thanks.for bringing it up" but continued to engage.
Noone jumped in and stopped it, nor should they have, he did fine.

Also if we are talking about criminals, Ant is another one, could have killed any number of people with his horrendous drink/drug driving. Still there winning his awards and presenting the show

So Boy George tortured one person, but Matt Hancock tortured thousands - it’s not an either or situation really.

Both equally horrible IMO.
’So why did you break your own guidance?’
i hope they are each donating their exorbitant fees to their victims.

He attends events at schools? How does he have an enhanced DBS with his criminal record? That’s absolutely disgusting he is allowed to do that.

You don't need a DBS to attend events in schools. Only if you work unaccompanied with children.

ancientgran · 18/11/2022 08:03

The thing that I find annoying is his hypocrisy, MH doesn't make snide comments about what BG did, doesn't moan behind his back. I'm perfectly happy for BG to have a clean slate in the camp but he then has to be happy about that for other people. If he's going to judge them then I feel fine about judging him.

I've said this several times but also his disregard for his other camp mates when they are sleeping. Why does he need to make such a spectacle of his chanting particularly when people are sleeping? He seems totally unaware of how his behaviour affects others. I wish someone would tell him, I would.

If he's mentoring children he might well be working one to one.

pilates · 18/11/2022 08:28

He is not coming across a lovely person in the jungle. Far from it. Sneering, spiteful, self absorbed and centre of attention behaviour is what I see. I’m sure he is generous with his family and close friends. Hopefully he will be donating his exorbitant fee to an addiction charity.

Happyhappyeveryday · 18/11/2022 09:15

I suppose BG has completed a prison sentence for what he did, however, so everyone is entitled to be given a second chance, as long as they are remorseful. Nonetheless, he doesn’t seem to be a very nice person.

Shareornotwhocares · 18/11/2022 11:22

I honestly want someone to tell me what else the government should have done re care homes. They were expecting a flood of covid patients into hospital - hospitals had a lot of elderly care home patients in who could be discharged. Most care home patients are already ill long term which is why they are in care homes.

You have 100 beds available and 100 chronically ill long term patients who could be moved on as well as 100+ covid patients who stand a good chance of making a full recovery if treated.

The sensible and logical thing to do was move the care home patients back to care homes to free the beds for the acute covid patients. There was no were else to send them back to other than their care homes.

It would have been as equal a tragedy if not worse if covid patients had been dying because beds were blocked by care home patients.

Hard decisions had to be made in a hurry. Scotland and Wales did exactly the same thing so it was not only Hancock - in fact many other countries also did similar.

ajandjjmum · 18/11/2022 11:23

Not sure he's remorseful either, as he seemed to be saying that he hadn't done what he was jailed for.

Exactly this 👏

I am confused about whether people hate Matt Hancock because he had an affair, because of the way he handled the pandemic or because he's a Tory.

The comments about killing thousands are ridiculous - Covid killed thousands.

Indeed,it was a pandemic ,yes in hindsight there were some terrible devisons made ,as there were across the world , unlees each and everyone of us stayed in our homes 24/7 untill ,vaccines and treatment were available ,then the virus was goiing to spread ,it was a terrible time but the deaths were due to Covid .,

Non of its clear is it , some peoole hate him because they think we didnt lockdown soon enough ,some people think we should never have locked down, i understand if you had a dying relative ,it must have been horrendous not to see them ,but they couldnt risk visitors bringing Covid into hospital with already vulnerable patients we didnt have testing in the beginning ,it was a no win situation

Totally agree , MH said he wants forgiveness, vote for him tonight and that will shock the camp , him not leaving on first nighy
