THE WHITE LOTUS - s2 MONDAY 9pm sky Atlantic. TV PACE. NO SPOILERS

So lotus is back

s1 was good. About holiday makers in a posh hotel and one died but various other things

quite funny

worth watching s1

there is a thread. Not by me s one

s2 is new cast and a new secret apart from jennifer Coolidge who returns as Tanya along with her lover now hubby

This season, Coolidge's hysterical and hyper-sensitive Tanya McQuoid will be joined by Jon Gries, who reprises his season one role of Tanya's lover turned new husband Greg, and Haley Lu Richardson (The Edge of Seventeen) who plays Portia, her assistant. Oscar-winner F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos), and Adam DiMarco (The Order) portray Bert, Dominic, and Albie, respectively, three generations of men from the Di Grasso family with three very different approaches to the opposite sex on a trip to Sicily to visit their ancestral home.

Also checking in are two polar opposite couples on vacation together: the prickly, newly-rich, and socially aware Harper and Ethan, played by Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) and Will Sharpe (Landscapers), and the carefree, news-averse, lovey-dovey couple Cameron and Daphne, played by Theo James (The Time Traveler's Wife) and Meghann Fahy (The Bold Type). The separate groups are intertwined when two local girls Mia (Beatrice Granno) and Lucia (Simona Tabasco) find their way into the White Lotus, much to the chagrin of Valentina (Sabrina Impaciatorre), the often flustered manager of the hotel.

I just love these threads and how we all pick up on different stuff

I didn’t get the trainer comment and the kids were his

daphne doesn’t seem to care that Cameron screws around as she does as well

Ethan bless him. Needs to be more honest with harper

i do think Cameron is poor and he was pissed off when Ethan wouldn’t tell him the shares

I don’t think Greg is being unfaithful. Maybe talking to his kid. Sure has one. And said wide Tanya is clueless

might be his health.

can’t work out if gays are rich or playing Tanya

but omg at nephew swinging both ways

thats if nephew

Hope Greg hasn’t set them up

and maybe he’s the straight cowboy

Greg is both unattractive in character and apparently superfluous - so I won’t mind at all if he’s discovered floating past the beach.

Rollergirl11 · 30/11/2022 13:46

Could be that Greg’s cancer is back but still doesn’t explain why he said “I love you” to the person on the phone.

Even if Tom Hollander and entourage are scamming Tanya still would have cost an awful lot to hire the yacht, palazzo, night at the opera etc.

Agree that Daphne is like a coiled spring. Makes me tense just thinking about how she’s going to explode very soon!

Twiglets1 · 30/11/2022 14:07

I’m just watching the episode again where the girls go to the Palazzo and the men end up with the prostitutes and I’ve got a new theory which is that Daphne & Cameron planned it that way. The scene where the women decide to go is quite odd - Harper is basically pushed into saying she will go when she doesn’t want to. And then she finds that Daphne has booked an overnight stay - even packing stuff for her - without her agreement! Who would do that??
My theory is that they wanted Cameron on his own with Ethan so that he could push the idea that Ethan “owes” him something so he is more likely to agree to invest in Cameron’s company. Cameron is actually quite desperate for Ethan to do that so maybe he is on the brink of bankruptcy.
They also engineer it so that Ethan has the opportunity to cheat on Harper with the prostitutes - because she is very conveniently out of the way for the night. Cameron even leaves a condom wrapper in Ethan’s room for Harper to find. I think he is trying to destabilise their relationship or maybe set up a situation where he could blackmail Ethan in future if need be. He probably assumed that Ethan would cheat on Harper when he had the opportunity and had been given lots of alcohol & drugs. He even tells Ethan “everyone cheats” to normalise it though “it’s safer to stick with whores”. How convenient that there were 2 glamorous high class prostitutes in the hotel bar who walk over to their table just after he says that! The whole thing was surely pre planned including the wives being absent.

fantasialand · 30/11/2022 14:28

OK so I have a few theories.

I think Daphne is the killer (remember when she talks about Dateline?)
I think Cameron does something / sleeps with Harper - she gazed at him too much when he got naked changing
I think Cameron and Daphne are broke and Cameron needs Ethan to be able to have more money to live the lifestyle.

The nephew is a Gay for Pay prostitute and there seems to be a theme that prostitutes will get their comeuppance so I think the girls and the boy could die.

I think that Jennifer Coolidge’s husband is the straight man that the gay guy said was who he was in love with 30 years ago.

maranella · 30/11/2022 14:37

I love this thread! So many thought-provoking comments ...

Yes, that makes perfect sense @Twiglets1. Daphne had planned the whole thing and packed a bag, so it makes sense that Cameron knew what she was doing beforehand and ergo, that he was part of the plan. Because, of course, he really needed to get Ethan alone so he could put his little business proposal to him without Harper being there ...

I really hope the female prostitutes don’t get killed. Though I do think Lucia was in on Cameron & Daphnes plan to get Ethan to cheat on Harper that particular night.
Because it was too much of a coincidence the girls being in the hotel bar at exactly the right time surely?

SheWoreYellow · 30/11/2022 15:18

If Daphne was the killer, would she have reacted like she did when she found the body? I keep meaning to watch the beginning of episode one to see if there is anyone else I can spot.

Netaporter · 30/11/2022 16:39

@SheWoreYellow i rewatched ep 1 yesterday. She definitely doesn’t recognise the body in the water and there are very few clues. All we know is that it was one week ago….

And did you see any other characters in the background I wonder? There’s obviously the hotel manager.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/11/2022 18:10

@Twiglets1 oh I like that

I don’t think Lucia knows the whole bad plan (assuming there is one!) but I think she was recruited earlier to have a “party” with the men that night and make it look accidental that she happened to be there. The other girl was just dragged along by her friend I think but Lucia has more of a back story to uncover

hopeishere · 30/11/2022 20:17

I think her backstory will be she's well off and is doing it for kicks. I can't wait until we find out how much she's charged to the dad's room!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/11/2022 20:55

She said to Cameron he owed £1200

thats a lot of sex

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/11/2022 20:56

Sure Greg has kids. So maybe talking to them or his mum ?

saying Tanya is unaware

but he wasn’t nice over her weight /the macoroons

@Slowdayinfleetstreetisit you made me laugh at the comment of on holiday you can hardly finish a book - and look at how busy the guests are!

loving the slow pace and build up - layers and layers every week

Slowdayinfleetstreetisit · 01/12/2022 09:09

So another thing I was thinking about was how annoyed Greg was about Portia being on holiday with them and really wanted her out of the way. Was it because he didn't want any witnesses? Also is this why Jack is keeping her occupied and all part of a larger scam.

I don't think things will end well for all of this group and ditto Cam (although that might be wishful thinking as he's such a dick).

TottersBlankly · 01/12/2022 09:18

It’s true that in S1 death did not come as retribution for the evil - so we definitely can’t hope that all the wrong’uns drown and the Spillers return home in triumph. Which is what I’d like.

<Worries>

Yesthatismychildsigh · 01/12/2022 12:18

Is the palazzo Daphne and Harper stayed in the same one that Quentin has taken Tanya to? So he’s just rented it? And the most chilling line for me of the episode was ‘Woukd you die for beauty?’.
Agreed, Jennifer Coolidge is sublime.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/12/2022 12:25

And in e1 the police mentioned several deaths at the hotel as well as the body in the sea

OP posts:
TottersBlankly · 01/12/2022 12:27

No, it’s a different place - the show creators have confirmed this in interviews.

We have no actual evidence that Quentin is scamming Tanya - it just seems a strong possibility. (Underlined by Jack’s easy scamming of the restaurant he took Portia to. Like uncle, like nephew …)

Yesthatismychildsigh · 01/12/2022 12:36

Thanks @TottersBlankly. well that’s me firmly in the wrong 😂

TottersBlankly · 01/12/2022 12:51

Oh - I wondered the same, @Yesthatismychildsigh !

maranella · 01/12/2022 17:23

Like uncle, like nephew …

Except, I'm assuming that not many nephews do what Jack was doing to Quentin at the end of episode 5.

Or maybe they do? Who knows what uncles and nephews get up to behind closed doors.

Would give a different meaning to avuncular if it is normal. 😐

I certainly hope they aren't actually uncle and nephew!!
