THE WHITE LOTUS - s2 MONDAY 9pm sky Atlantic. TV PACE. NO SPOILERS

So lotus is back

s1 was good. About holiday makers in a posh hotel and one died but various other things

quite funny

worth watching s1

there is a thread. Not by me s one

s2 is new cast and a new secret apart from jennifer Coolidge who returns as Tanya along with her lover now hubby

This season, Coolidge's hysterical and hyper-sensitive Tanya McQuoid will be joined by Jon Gries, who reprises his season one role of Tanya's lover turned new husband Greg, and Haley Lu Richardson (The Edge of Seventeen) who plays Portia, her assistant. Oscar-winner F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos), and Adam DiMarco (The Order) portray Bert, Dominic, and Albie, respectively, three generations of men from the Di Grasso family with three very different approaches to the opposite sex on a trip to Sicily to visit their ancestral home.

Also checking in are two polar opposite couples on vacation together: the prickly, newly-rich, and socially aware Harper and Ethan, played by Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) and Will Sharpe (Landscapers), and the carefree, news-averse, lovey-dovey couple Cameron and Daphne, played by Theo James (The Time Traveler's Wife) and Meghann Fahy (The Bold Type). The separate groups are intertwined when two local girls Mia (Beatrice Granno) and Lucia (Simona Tabasco) find their way into the White Lotus, much to the chagrin of Valentina (Sabrina Impaciatorre), the often flustered manager of the hotel.

Jeez - well there were a few surprises in there! Good ending.

Workerbeep · 12/12/2022 14:57

Yes I thought it was a convincing ending for most characters.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/12/2022 16:05

I’ve avoided till now as didn't want to read and spoil

but it’s been on so fair game

so don’t read further if havnt seen 7

omfg

i didn’t expect that. As soon as Tanya hit her head I thought body be hers

not sure why hotel didn’t name her or the 3 men know who she was

someone on the beach would have known or named her

so was Greg playing her

or was it all subtle and double meaning

and innocent

tho the gun tape rope etc in bag didn't seem good

and what nephew said to portio about being dangerous

Bah! we didn't find out if Greg was the cowboy or just had an uncanny resemblance!

I like how the Tanya storyline toyed with the viewer. It almost looked at first like Quentin and Co were just going to do a closing sales pitch at lunch on the boat " we fundraise for beautiful old buildings" and it would turn out they hadn't anything more sinister planned than getting some money off her. However, once Tanya found the gun it was clear that Quentin and Co were going to be the dead bodies. What was the point in having the drugs party - just to give Tanya a good time, before knocking her off? Her fall from the boat reminded me of an explanation for Natalie Wood's death. Was the spoiler that Jennifer Coolidge had signed up for season 3 deliberately leaked , so we would all be shocked by her demise?

I watched the end credits as I thought there might be a shot of Greg cavorting with Tanya's money! Surely, Portia will have some questions to answer.

I also wanted to see Dom's face when he saw the bill the girls had run up on clothes, food and drinks on top of the 50k Lucia scammed.

I didn't quite get the resolution of the Harper/Ethan story. Harper was right that their problem was that Ethan preferred watching porn to having sex with her but it was a bit abrupt that after trying to connect with him throughout the holiday, he was just suddenly was able to desire her again. I didn't really buy that Harper would have gone up to the room and kissed Cameron after the condom/prostitute night. I felt there was a lot of tease about Cameron and Daphne that didn't pay off.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/12/2022 18:18

I wondered that @SapatSea about saying I was in s3

and yes we don’t know about Greg

unless he will be in s3 filthy rich and then it will reveal what happened

I was upset about Tanya 😥

Re the 2 couples, I took it that Ethan and Daphne ended up having sex when they went off for a walk on their own as Daphne was advising Ethan to just get even, to "use his imagination" as to how he could feel better about the situation re Cameron. She said that's what she does.
I think that made Ethan feel better about the whole thing and it probably gave him a lot of pleasure to have sex with Cameron's wife after Cameron has done the dirty on him so many times - not just at college but also potentially with Harper. I think it made him feel more Alpha male, hence he found his sex drive with Harper. And Daphne was showing no anger towards Cameron because as usual, she had found a way to even the score.

VinoDino · 12/12/2022 18:51

Not sure what to make of that finale. I'm pretty disappointed.

Roundlampshade · 12/12/2022 20:10

Tanya.! 😭😭😭

lazymum99 · 12/12/2022 20:42

Too many loose ends and I don’t want Tanya to have drowned. I was shouting at the tv for her to get on the boat from the swimming platform. Never jump between 2 boats. Disastrous.
Were they planning on killing her or was that a bag of role play accessories? Where the hell is Greg? Portia would have had all her stuff at the hotel…..

TottersBlankly · 12/12/2022 20:50

My immediate thought was that Portia had enough evidence to scupper any inheritance hopes for Greg. And to put Jack back in the cell he probably crawled out of. Xmas Angry But it’s not that sort of show is it?

Other than that I’m mostly thinking about Mr Sharpe …😍

PuppyMonkey · 12/12/2022 21:13

Thought it could have done with one more episode to wrap things up a bit better, seven episodes is not quite right - if has to be eight imho.Grin

Sad about Tanya but also quite relieved that Portia was okay in the end.

Rollergirl11 · 12/12/2022 21:41

Are we meant to think that Lucia and Mia are a couple at the end there?

Rollergirl11 · 12/12/2022 21:41

Are we meant to think that Lucia and Mia are a couple at the end there?

No, just friends I think

Roarsomemore · 12/12/2022 22:08

Wow wow wow - the shoot out on the boat! Was like a gangster film. Who knew she'd be such a crack shot. Fair play. Fell at the last hurdle though. That bit was a shock

Roarsomemore · 12/12/2022 22:17

Also Daphne and Cameron plot seemed to fizzle out. I expected more of a twist along the lines of Daphne masterminding the whole situation. Something about using Ethan assaulting Caneron against him eg linking in with the litigation culture they were complaining about. But no, just that if you want to be happy in your marriage you have to cheat 🤔

BoneyEmm · 12/12/2022 22:20

I read online that Lucia and Mia have been friends for over 10yrs and auditioned together.

I loved this series

So disappointed about Tanya. I was willing her to resurface unscathed after all that drama!

Found it weird Portia was left at the airport as she surely wouldn't have taken her passport with her.

The whole Greg scam wasn't really explained in the end, but I'm annoyed he probably gets her billions.

NeedWineNow · 12/12/2022 22:31

DH and I have just watched the finale and we found it a bit of a letdown. It was one of those series where it has been a build up to the finale which then felt very rushed and didn’t really tie things up, unless they are going to do a third series. What happened with the Greg situation, what was the score with Jack etc?

Quite disappointing really.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 12/12/2022 22:50

At least we know about S3. Daphne said next year it is the Maldives.

Bouledeneige · 12/12/2022 23:04

Loved the final episode - so many layers and intercut stories.

  • the building tension and entrapment of Tanya and Portia as they realise the increasing danger and subterfuge
  • the hope for Tanya as she fights her way out but then hope to be thwarted thwarted
  • the frustration that Greg may have succeeded
  • the moment when Portia and Albie exchange numbers at the airport
  • the joyful crafty girls skipping off down the alleyways at the end.

I don't mind the lack of neatness with Cameron and Daphne - the compromises and things left unsaid. Or what happened with Cameron and Harper or whether Ethan and her can ever really have the openness and honesty they claimed to - however much they judged the other two. It didn't actually occur to me that Ethan and Daphne shagged on the island - more that life goes on and there's other things to see and feel.

Interestingly people online are saying that it's good to re-watch Ep 1 after finishing the finale to spot the clues, hints and plot trails. And to note the use of orange - the filmic trope from the Godfather used in many films to portend of death.....

I'm off to watch....

constantindigestion · 13/12/2022 00:33

One of the best TV shows I've watched - absolutely loved both seasons.

GetUsedToTheHeatAgain · 13/12/2022 04:09

I read somewhere the next series will feature Tanya come back to 'haunt' Greg when he visits the next White Lotus, which again was reported to be in Scotland??

Twiglets1 · 13/12/2022 05:53

Rollergirl11 · 12/12/2022 21:41

Are we meant to think that Lucia and Mia are a couple at the end there?

No, just that for them life goes on as normal in Sicily. They were unscathed by the unpleasant dramas the guests went through. Life was sweet for them as one has a dream job now and the other is 50,000 Euros richer.

AnImaginaryCat · 13/12/2022 07:52

I enjoyed that last episode. Sorry to see Tanya killed off though.

Life pretty much went on for all (except Tanya!!). Daphne and Cameron continue their fake happy couple - given away only briefly by their faces - he knows the children aren't his; she is hurt but evens the score.

Albie is now like his father and grandfather, and money will solve all.

Harper and Ethan continue to do whatever they do - after Ethan and Daphne even the score together Ethan. Not massively clear why he decided to actually have sex with her finally. Though he was pleasant was he? "I'm telling the truth because I say so. You're lying because I say so."
