I used to love Faking It, not sure why it stopped being made. The ones with the Cornish clog dancer turned street dancer and the classical musician turned club DJ were my absolute favourites and I still go back and rewatch them now.

What TV programme would you like to see brought back?

Afterlife starring Lesley Sharp and Andrew Lincoln ( not the Ricky Gervais one)

DomesticBlisters · 07/10/2022 22:32

Did anyone watch The Last Train? Must have been on in the 90s and I loved it but nobody seems to remember it.

WonderingWanda · 07/10/2022 22:46

Knightmare, He-Man, Funhouse.

Last of the summer wine

Selkiesarereal · 07/10/2022 23:20

Cagney and Lacey, two female leads in a male dominated tough profession, ground breaking.

The Secret History of our Streets

it was so fascinating but for some reason they only made two series even though it was very popular. I love A House Through Time which is similar

Anyone remember Running Scared from 1986? That was a good one.

Yes - and I still have the exact same edition of the book that you've posted.

It's a badge of age if Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill' is the theme from Running Scared rather than whatever the recent TV thing is that finally got it to number 1 in the charts, that I can't be bothered to google. Grin

Home Fires

KloppsTeeth · 08/10/2022 00:34

It is indeed @AsAnyFuleKno I am envious that you have the book. I remember the tv show made me feel anxious at times, it was an interesting series.

KloppsTeeth · 08/10/2022 00:35

What about Byker Grove?! I luffed that one.

Have you seen 'Break In the Sun' - another TV series based on a Bernard Ashley novel? If not, I would recommend it - it's on YouTube. Both books are available on Amazon/eBay secondhand - even better than the series in my opinion!

BarnacleNora · 08/10/2022 00:52

I LOVED Child of Our Time, would love to watch the whole thing from the beginning but no idea where it would be! I think it was originally on the BBC but it's not on iPlayer.

I also really loved the island of Taransay programme. Was it called Castaways or something? It was a reality show but it was so so different from the usual stuff, people trying to set up their own island community on a fairly remote Scottish(?) island, some families with kids, single people, older couples etc. absolutely fascinating. Ben Fogle was one of the islanders on it. Not sure it could be replicated now as people might be out for a slice of fame but it was such an interesting look into human life.

On the same theme of human life and everyday living I really liked The Family, loads of hidden cameras just filming a normal family in their home for god knows how long, over the course of a year maybe. Think there were two series. Sounds dull but I love any sort of 'normal people doing normal things' type fly on the wall stuff.

Also:
The Hotel
And definitely Holiday Showdown and Wife Swap!

The Sweeney, but that would have as much chance of release these days as a whole life tariff prisoner.
