I used to love Faking It, not sure why it stopped being made. The ones with the Cornish clog dancer turned street dancer and the classical musician turned club DJ were my absolute favourites and I still go back and rewatch them now.

What TV programme would you like to see brought back?

Moonlighting, absolutely loved it!

Goodnight Sweetheart had a bit more mileage before the digital/social media world we live in now that would make Gary's claims impossible to maintain.

The good life. I just loved Margo so much I'd never tire of seeing how she reacted to the 'modern' world.

Londons Burning - very few programmes about the fire service and this was great (I know they are a victim of their own success, cars safer, hardly any chip pans, less smokers especially indoors etc etc) but they do some cracking stuff around securing properties from DV, working with hoarders, shutting down CSE and CCE hot spots on fire regulations, some areas being medical first responders so a lot of scope to work with.

A touch of frost - loved David Jason in this. Totally implausible from a police procedural point of view but I loved it and watch repeats whenever I see them.

The Bill - Reg Hollis was the hero of that show. I watch repeats on Drama and just love it!

Rev - Olivia Coleman and Tom Hollander were just superb and it didn't run for enough series at all. Would loved to have seen him sent to a naice country parish.

Home Fires as mentioned above.

I'd love the BBC to repeat The Monocled Mutineer. I have it on DVD. while it was historically inaccurate in many places and Percy Topliss was an all round wrong un I think it is a stark reminder of what happens when we have an elite and ruling class that remain unchallenged and laugh in the face of us plebs.

The Monocled Mutineer is on Britbox - I was watching it the other night!

Without a doubt, the show Hidden Talent on C4.

It was hosted by Richard Bacon and was about finding normal people with an exceptional natural talent for things, like learning languages or free diving.

My favourite episode was when they found a factory worker with no formal art training at all, who could almost immediately identify art forgeries. He had a natural eye for the form and rules of art - and it was so moving to see him discover what he could do.

It was like watching people discover they had super powers and it was AWESOME.

Yes this!

they has a woman who could free dive. They monitored her heart rate and hers reduced as she went deeper as she was relaxed in the environment.

I’d love to know what happened to these people. Did they make use of their new found talents?

@FeralWitch oh I'm ridiculously pleased to read that. I remember at the time there were questions raised in parliament as it was so controversial and the BBC agreed to not repeat it so I'm pleased it's getting a well deserved outing again.

Anyone remember Running Scared from 1986? That was a good one.

It's on YouTube, funny watching Burnside from The Bill in it

DomesticBlisters · 07/10/2022 22:32

Did anyone watch The Last Train? Must have been on in the 90s and I loved it but nobody seems to remember it.

Yes I vaguely remember this, a bit like 28 days later, post apocalypse type drama?

Who rules the roost and child of our time

Also the "UP" series. I know the director/narrator of that died so I don't know if it will carry on in the future

I love the UP series so much.

LightDrizzle · 08/10/2022 01:11

Another Sapphire & Steele fan here!

Also Prisoner Cellblock H. I loved everything about that series.

@LightDrizzle have you tried watching Wentworth on channel 5? A reimagining of Prisoner in the current time. I love both of them, Wentworth is slightly more edgy but I'm so sad it's ended now.

I wish audiences could handle cozy programs but I just (really sad madly) think they wouldn’t be popular Enugu. Like Judy think bouquet, foot in the grave, prover darling buds of may.even when the soaps were just cozy everyday life.nothing extra had to happen or drama just nice tv shows.

We save 'All Creatures Great and Small' and 'Gone Fishing' for our Sunday night harmless viewing. I agree though, the appetite for the safe and everyday seems to have decreased unfortunately.

Don't get me wrong, I like a concrete and piss drama as much as anyone, but I do love the escapism of positive programming as well. The Darling Buds of May was brilliant, so warm and joyful (the Pam Ferris one, not the awful recent one).

charabang · 10/10/2022 00:44

Yes to Homefires as it had a lot more to give. I'd like to see more Raised by Wolves, Zomboat, Versailles and Victoria.
Maybe some Armchair Thrillers too?

SlayB · 10/10/2022 19:47

I miss the ITCrowd, Foyle’s War and Angel.

Rather than going woke I wish the BBC would commission a series of afternoon kids dramas on a Sunday afternoon like Box of delights.

Then a version of Holiday and lastly a big punchy drama with Peaky Blinders moving into films we need a replacement.

( Incidentally some mentioned Ask The Family I loved that and Call My Bluff)

Yucca78 · 10/10/2022 19:49

The Life and Loves of a She-Devil. Brilliant

I was just discussing this program with my friend this weekend. She remembered the Miriam Margolyes character, whereas I only remembered Patricia Hodge & Julie T Wallace.
