9pm, get the kettle on!

OP posts:
geraniumsandsunshine · 14/10/2022 23:43

What's happened to Mrs Pomfrey (sp?) Trixie Woo's owner?

InsertPunHere · 15/10/2022 08:18

Wept buckets. Anna Madeley’s superb, isn’t she?
I think it’s impossible not to be a bit in love with Siegfried.
The whole episode was wonderful.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 15/10/2022 08:44

I've just caught up with this weeks episode, I cried loads! Thought it was wonderfully done and also got a sense of impending doom with her son going off to war 😓

Loved the moment between Siegfried and Tristan, Siegfried has had so much loss in his life with both parents dying and his wife. I wondered if there may have been some siblings that died as well which would explain the large age gap.

I think the age gap is possibly meant to only be about 10/15 years though the gap with the actors is more like 30 years.

Yes in the books I think that Siegfried is written as a father like figure to Tristan but not actually old enough to be his father I think.

In actuality I think that the Sinclair brothers were about 4yrs apart & Alf Wight younger than both.

Donald Sinclair's story is very sad.

vjg13 · 15/10/2022 20:05

The moment when they dropped the tin of biscuits. I was in bits from then.

meateatingveggie · 20/10/2022 21:02

Evening all. Looking forward to another episode...

SirChenjins · 20/10/2022 21:18

Enjoying it so far - but its going to take a lot to beat last week’s episode

AlternativelyWired · 20/10/2022 22:20

Oh no 😔

meateatingveggie · 20/10/2022 22:37

That feels like a bit of a cliff hanger. Is next week the last of the series?

That was the last episode. Need to wait for the Christmas special.

LIZS · 21/10/2022 07:33

Think that was the last of the series with a Christmas special to come

AlternativelyWired · 21/10/2022 11:12

It was the last one? Nooooo😔

woodhill · 21/10/2022 11:28

I think the original series paused for the war so maybe James will come home on leave for Christmas

Robin233 · 21/10/2022 12:34

Fabulous
Great to see Mrs Pumphery again.
Seamlessly played now by Patrician Hodges
It s taken me until lunch time to realise it was a different actress lol

woodhill · 21/10/2022 12:38

Yes poor Dianna Rigg died whilst the first series was being broadcast I think :(

SirChenjins · 21/10/2022 13:13

Was last night's episode setting us up for a shift in the relationship between Mrs Hall and Siegfried, do you think? I'm still not feeling it between her and Mr Moustache.

Laughingravy · 21/10/2022 15:21

I know that Alf Wight did his military service, so that much is accurate but just didn't feel they portrayed why James would feel being a vet wasn't a much better thing to do than offering himself up for cannon fodder. IRL he went into the airforce mid war but we can't assume that in this series, he was in a queue to join the army and war had only just been declared.

Real life Siegfried’s second wife was called Audrey. Just throwing that out there.

Ginger1982 · 21/10/2022 16:33

@InsertPunHere definitely not a coincidence!

Please please please let them end up together. I know it wasn’t what happened at the time and that she’s still married, but I’d love to see them as a couple.

Robin233 · 21/10/2022 19:45

I still can't get past Mrs Hall bring about 90 and rather dumpy - I read all the books.

Yettoconfirm567 · 21/10/2022 20:29

I am with *SirChenjins, I want to see them as a couple!

ACG&S is like a great big comfort blanket in these bleak times! Six episodes is far too few! I haven't read the books, so not at all bothered if they don't remain true... but for a wonderful dose of nostalgia and to forget the 21st century for a while it can't be beaten. Some really good acting on display as well.

And I am old enough to have watched the original, but I much prefer this one. Including doing 'work experience' on set of the last day ever filming at Pebble Mill! Christopher Timothy gave all the 'ladies' on set a red rose... including an 18 year old me!
