Apparently in the book, Aemond deliberately kills Lucerys. I would have liked to see him own his actions, really. Think I might read the book as there are 2 years before the next series and I will have forgotten everything by the time that comes.

BlackberryCat · 25/10/2022 09:07

I heard there were different accounts of what happened in the books.

In the book the only person who actually knows what happens is Aemond of course and we don't have his version of events. People at Storms End saw the dragons fighting in the sky but the weather was bad so they can't have seen much.

BorgQueen · 25/10/2022 10:13

Some of the dragon chase did look like a particularly terrifying game of Quidditch 🤣
The dragon battle was done far better, cinematically speaking, in GOT, The long night, I thought.

I do think that they’ve been lazy and gone for the Tragic Loss = Mad Queen trope again.

Not sure what the point was of Daemon grabbing Rhaenayra by the throat? We already know he’s unstable.

Also Corlys did a rather fast about turn, one minute just wanted to retire to his island then he pledged his fleet for the cause.

tattlytote · 25/10/2022 05:00

I am suspicious that Daemon may want rid of Rhaeynera's older children so that the children they had together would be heir to the throne.
But hadn't considered that this incident with Aemond was part of his. Aemond looked genuinely shocked and remorseful even when there was no one watching...

Someone earlier in the series warned Rhaenyra about the danger to her 'Velaryon' children if she married Daemon, I just can't remember who. Possibly Rhaenys?

FortunesFavour · 25/10/2022 14:06

I’m a bit confused about the dragon that Daemon was singing to - same question as @BorgQueen but couldn’t see an answer above, sorry if I missed it.

Earlier on Daemon was taking about wild dragons that they could try to tame, was it one of those? And what was he singing?

I was half hoping that Daemon was going to save the day by charging through the clouds at the last minute having tamed this mystery dragon. Sadly not to be.

667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 25/10/2022 14:07

@BlackberryCat thank you for explaining about the crowns, as I was confused by this.

Also who’s was the third dragon seen riding out with Jacerys and his brother (Lucerys?) I’m really struggling with the names due to the change in actors.

Has no one watched “How to train your Dragon” ? 😅

So many posts on here so apologies I can’t remember who mentioned it ,but yeah dragons in GOT were more obedient, I’m guessing it’s when dragons fight dragons things get out of hand and unpredictable. I actually thought that it was Aemond’s intention to kill Lucerys (?) from the start but only realised it wasn’t when he had that “oh shit” moment !
It also occurred to me when Rhaenyra said “I have no wish to rule over a pile of ash” that dragons are the nuclear weapons of their world and a last resort.

Am I the only one who was distracted by Phil Daniel as the Maester.

When he said “I’ll send the ravens” I couldn’t help but sing “I sometimes send the sparrows too, it gives me a sense of enormous well being… PARK LIFE” 🤣

His accents just seems so off in this to me.

I didn't realise it was him. I'm going to have to watch it again with Parklife! on.

singingstones · 25/10/2022 14:13

I think he was furious when he realised that Viserys had told Rhaenyra the secret and not him - especially as he was at one time Viserys's heir. He is still the same man who was angling for the throne himself when Rhaenyra was a child. He won't be satisfied as a consort I don't think, however cosy and settled their family seems. I think a PP is right and his plan is get Rhaenyra on the throne and then do away with the Strong boys so that his sons become heirs to the throne and his daughters become heirs to Driftmark.

The 3rd dragon was Rhaenys flying out.

nootsy · 25/10/2022 14:20

@FortunesFavour I thought it was one of the wild dragons

HauntedCabinet · 25/10/2022 14:42

I think it was Vermithor, 2nd largest dragon and ridden by King Jaehaerys Targaryen I (but no one else since).

Handy to have on your side - but he'll need a rider.

Can a rider ride 2 dragons or are they limited to just 1?

HauntedCabinet · 25/10/2022 14:42

Oh sorry, I thought the question was about which dragon Daemon was singing to. Halloween Blush

FortunesFavour · 25/10/2022 14:46

Yes that was my question, thank you HauntedCabinet and nootsy….hmm so looks like it’s (massive) Vermithor gone feral over the years and just waiting for a new rider? - that’ll be fun!

According to the maesters one dragonrider can only be bonded to one dragon throughout their life, but we do not know if it is true. Maesters weren't privy to dragonlore. They were just observing. It is possible that these were more peacekeeping rules to prevent one dragonrider from snatching another one's dragon.
A lot of readers suspect that maesters had a hand in dragons dying out.

HauntedCabinet · 25/10/2022 15:07

Interesting. I have no idea of the story of the Dance of Dragons so this is all guesswork, but I was wondering if Daemon was trying to soften Vermithor up to claim him as well as Caraxes.

@Ladybug10 thank you 😊

MuddlerInLaw · 25/10/2022 17:31

Wonderful final episode!

Though I think my heart is a bit broken over poor, poor Luc. That was much too exciting.

Excellent, thoughtful review here:

LoobyDop · 25/10/2022 18:08

I’m sure Dany rode Rhaegon at least once, not just Drogon.

I thought that the Strong boys would be in danger from Daemon, but they’ve been married off to his daughters- so his grandchildren would inherit eventually. And he can probably marry his sons off to a few of them to catch it from both angles.

Something I’ve been wondering is, how much fresh, healthy DNA do you need to introduce to cancel out the damage done by inbreeding? Did Jon being half Stark protect him from Targ madness? Or was he just lucky?

WhathaveIdoneagain · 25/10/2022 18:43

In the books, Targaryen madness sometimes occurs after trauma. They are not born crazy. Aerys was perfectly normal until he was held hostage.
Daenerys and Viserys clearly had a traumatic childhood.
Daemon is calculating and cruel, but not crazy.
Rhaenyra is portrayed as crazy, but the historian maesters hated her.
Maegor was crazy, it seems, but who really knows.

marmiteadict · 25/10/2022 20:13

I'm now questioning how Jon Snow rode a dragon and The Night King rode the dragon which turned to ice and nobody batted an eyelid.

Surely everyone would have called Targarean descendant (s)

marmiteadict · 25/10/2022 20:14

Should add. Could book readers help me out. Thanks in advance.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 25/10/2022 20:28

Jon Snow is Aegon Targaryen.
I guess the Night King did not ride a live dragon. Wasn't it reanimated?
Who can ride a dragon is a huge question. Some claim that you need dragonrider ancestry. Others claim that you don't. There are conflicting accounts.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 25/10/2022 20:42

A good example of this is Tyrion. The dragons got on well with him. Many people expected him to ride a dragon. So was he Aerys's bastard or just a very lucky boy (with comprehensive knowledge of all available dragonlore)?

I always though it would be revealed he was a targarean. Especially since he was more blond in the earlier series and knew a lot about targereans and dragons.
