So I have watched it now! I see Heleana (or however you spell it) predicted again when she said there was a beast below the boards - if only the others would listen to her!

And who knew that Larys was a foot perv - interesting twist 🤪

Still not got a clue what is going on - off to read the debriefs elsewhere!

marmiteadict · 17/10/2022 17:32

Well the foot fetish kink I didn't see coming 😳

I have been rewatching Game Of Thrones.

A warning to you all - there is a massive HOD spoiler in season 3, episode 4 so be careful!

I decided to watch the whole of GoT again and also saw the spoiler 🙈.

I just feel HoD hasn't explained the various characters very well, and changed them up too speedily. I am also reading various recaps to keep up. Viserys' death bed mumbling was particularly confusing.

I had the subtitles on but other than that I'm solid with you @LobeliaBaggins It's not a GCSE. You shouldn't have to do revision to keep up.

Ages ago, possibly episode two or three, I read a gossip snippet from the i online newspaper explaining that JRR Martin had corrected something that had really offended him from Game of Thrones.

You know when Robert Baratheon gets gored by a wild boar off screen in the first series of Game of Thrones and dies thus kicking off the successional War of the Five Kings? It was done quickly and efficiently but JR Hartley didn't like that because anyone who knows anything about medieval king stuff knows that hunting was a big deal. So to please him half an episode in House of the Dragons was taken up with boring courtly shit and a very poor CGI bit of a stag or two. There was a point where the wives could have said something amusing in a tent but they didn't because JR Hartley is a dull git who doesn't do funny.

He really should have been kept away from it along with all those people who say: "But if you've read the book..."

By J R Hartley do you mean Grrm? George r r Martin, the author ? Sorry your post is confusing.

marmiteadict · 17/10/2022 19:30

@VinoDino bloody Joffrey

WhathaveIdoneagain · 17/10/2022 20:14

@BlackberryCat I loved Rhaenys ringing the bell, too.

All hail the one true Queen by birth and temperament, Rhaenys Targaryen!

You also have to feel for Aemond playing second fiddle to Aegon. Machiavelli with a huge dragon, who could be more suitable?!

Daemon will not be pleased.

FawnDrench · 17/10/2022 20:16

Have viewed episode 9.
To me, watching the scene in the coach with his mother, Aegon looked very much like Lewis Capaldi - he's got that bad-boy sulk, the pasty complexion and everything.

Very good episode tonight, really looking forward to next week.

toulet · 17/10/2022 20:49

Music was excellent, agree with pp.

I just noticed that Alicent said to Rhaenys When you have your answer ring the bell. I think the point of the final scene was that Rhaenys was ringing the bell to give her answer.

so was it a no?

The division between the twins.

was it the twin who left the fight that rescued Rhaenys

I was confused about Larys & Alicent, does she give into his foot fetish for info?

Mysaria's house burning.

that makes sense, was wondering what significance the random burning house was.

toulet · 17/10/2022 20:49

I see Heleana (or however you spell it) predicted again when she said there was a beast below the boards - if only the others would listen to her!

what does it mean?

WhathaveIdoneagain · 17/10/2022 20:52

Rhaenys's dragon beneath the Dragonpit.

I love the Lewis Capaldi comparison 🤣

PuppyMonkey · 17/10/2022 21:08

Really enjoyed that episode. It’s turning into a proper show now.Grin

escapingthecity · 17/10/2022 21:12

I am hopeful this means we are now into big battle and lots more dragons. Loved it, even if it was very quiet at times. The final dragon entry woke the sleeping baby upstairs though!

MuddlerInLaw · 17/10/2022 21:12

Another wonderfully tense episode. I agree the music was fabulous. There were moments where I was noticing it but it didn’t tell me what to think, or anticipate, at all. (Unlike the Rings music which pretty much supplanted action.)

The thing I didn’t understand was the two opposing search parties. What difference would it have made whether Otto or Alicent recaptured him?

I do miss the previous Aegon actor. It’s hard to feel any sympathy for this one in comparison to his badass brother.

Helaena is such a compelling character. Could have done with more of her.

Shame it’s coming to an end. Though I’m beginning to get excited about Gangs of London. In truth life is just a long, meaningless wait for Succession …

toulet · 17/10/2022 21:15

The thing I didn’t understand was the two opposing search parties. What difference would it have made whether Otto or Alicent recaptured him?

I thought Alicent wanted to make sure he wouldn't kill R, whereas Otto would be like it's a fab idea.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 17/10/2022 21:17

It was heart-wrenching to see the kids in the fighting pit, and the little Targ toddler.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 17/10/2022 21:28

In retrospect the music was a huge spoiler because it was so close to the opening music to the finale of Season 6: specifically the sequence where Cersei blows up the Sept. I only clocked that because I watch with subtitles (hearing impairment rather than nerdy completistness) and it came up as "slow piano music" which reminded me that GOT episode was deliberately the first time they used a piano in the score.

MuddlerInLaw · 17/10/2022 21:28

Yes … @toulet I get that - but I had the impression that Otto and Alicent would issue their opposing kill / don’t kill orders anyway, regardless of whether Aegon agreed or not. He just didn’t seem as crucial as the action suggested he must be.

LoobyDop · 17/10/2022 21:37

Was the implication with the Targaryen toddler that Aegon was paying to watch his own infant children fighting in a mini gladiator arena? Or worse than that?

And who were the brothers who were sent to find him? I think the Northern accents would be a red herring, wouldn’t they- because Northerners wouldn’t be knights and I think stayed away from KL and the court during this period.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 17/10/2022 21:42

They introduced the idea that there are a lot of so-called dragonseed, ie illegitimate Targ children out there.

The twins were knights of the Kingsguard, Ser Erryk and Ser Arryk Cargill.

LobeliaBaggins · 17/10/2022 21:43

Ah, finally it's hotting up just when it's ending!
The actor who plays Aemond is so striking I can't take my eyes off him.
Yuck at pervy Larys.
The ageing still bothers me. Alicent looks younger than Helaena or Aemond, and Ser Christon appears to be aging backwards too.
The bit about 2 search teams for Aegon was rather silly.

toulet · 17/10/2022 22:05

@MuddlerInLaw true, I assumed that if Otto convinced him he would give the order straight away & then the plan would be put into action asap.

limitedperiodonly · 17/10/2022 23:12

It really is rubbish

youngestisapsycho · 18/10/2022 08:53

Why didn’t she just get the dragon to burn them all ?!

MuddlerInLaw · 18/10/2022 09:05

That would have cut the projected five season show rather short … Grin

WhathaveIdoneagain · 18/10/2022 09:38

youngestisapsycho · 18/10/2022 08:53

Why didn’t she just get the dragon to burn them all ?!

Exactly. But then she is no kinslayer.
