@kingsleysbootlicker thank you for the link

VinoDino · 12/10/2022 08:36

I'm watching GoT again from the start and on S3. I think Joffrey might've just dropped a spoiler about HOTD! 🙈

667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 12/10/2022 11:54

“Apparently Ewan Mitchell, who plays Aemond, is only 20. He must have been around 15 when he started in The Last Kingdom.”

@BlackberryCat wow ! I would have put him older than 20. He was also in the series World on Fire as Sean Bean’s son he was very good in that.

Yes unfortunately if you've seen GOT you've had a major characters story spoiled.

MuddlerInLaw · 12/10/2022 13:18

Only if you remember GOT in any detail, surely?

I don’t. Grin

limitedperiodonly · 12/10/2022 13:28

The actor who played Aemond before the time jump when he stole the dragon and lost his eye looked just like Chloe Sevigny. I was so convinced he was her son I paused the recording and looked it up. He's not and after a wider search I don't think they are related at all. These are the things I find myself doing when my mind wanders while watching HoD.

limitedperiodonly · 12/10/2022 13:45

So now all the women have the same names, and the men too? Maybe someone can clarify.

@LobeliaBaggins I can't clarify but I can confirm that royal families of old were not very imaginative when it came to naming, particularly with girls. If you watched The Tudors with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers as Henry VIII (crap but it had Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and Henry 'Cavill in it) you'd have noticed that if the women weren't called Jane they were called Catherine. There were two Annes in it (quite a boring name). One of them was Joss Stone and the other one went on to play Margaery Tyrell in Game of Thrones where she got to do things that made me remember and even care about her.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 12/10/2022 13:50

Not to mention the tsunami of Thomases.

Me neither and I’ve watched it more than once !

BlackberryCat · 12/10/2022 14:17

The Last Kingdom also had a lot of characters with similar names that were really difficult to spell. I guess it was common in those days. My mum did our family tree and pretty much all the women were called Margaret and all the men were called David.

LoobyDop · 12/10/2022 16:23

People struggling with multiple Aegons should avoid reading 100 Years of Solitude.

LobeliaBaggins · 12/10/2022 16:41

Of course you are right. I did watch the Tudors- quite enjoyed it even though it was pure piffle- and yes, everyone was called Catherine or Jane or Thomas back in the day. I guess George is sticking to his inspiration. I just feel HoD hasn't explained the various characters very well, and changed them up too speedily. I am also reading various recaps to keep up. Viserys' death bed mumbling was particularly confusing.

LobeliaBaggins · 12/10/2022 16:41

Sorry that last post was directed to @limitedperiodonly

Grin at a tsunami of thomases

fun fact, in 1811 nearly a quarter of all women in Britain were named Mary....

Robin233 · 12/10/2022 19:06

Loved the Tudors - used to watch it with my teenaged daughter.

eltonjohnsglasses · 12/10/2022 20:46

How hot was Henry Cavill in Tudors 🫠

sorry to derail!

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 12/10/2022 21:05

Of course just because confusing names are "realistic", doesn't mean that it should be imposed when it's not viewer friendly. The problem is that the Targaryen family tree was set in stone in all its convoluted but repetitive glory before Game of Thrones was a twinkle in HBO's eye.

If GRRM had only thought at the time "hang on, if ASOIAF is made into a prestige TV show and becomes a massive global phenomenon and the broadcasters are so hungry for new Westeros content that they then decide to film all the backstory I only put in to entertain myself, then the fact that this entire family tree only contains three vowels and four consonants might be a bit tricky for a mass audience" then maybe he'd have rethought, and added the occasional Rob or Mary. But presumably he didn't.

Incredibly hot.

Always felt let down with him in anytime since.

I had the subtitles on but other than that I'm solid with you @LobeliaBaggins It's not a GCSE. You shouldn't have to do revision to keep up.

Ages ago, possibly episode two or three, I read a gossip snippet from the i online newspaper explaining that JRR Martin had corrected something that had really offended him from Game of Thrones.

You know when Robert Baratheon gets gored by a wild boar off screen in the first series of Game of Thrones and dies thus kicking off the successional War of the Five Kings? It was done quickly and efficiently but JR Hartley didn't like that because anyone who knows anything about medieval king stuff knows that hunting was a big deal. So to please him half an episode in House of the Dragons was taken up with boring courtly shit and a very poor CGI bit of a stag or two. There was a point where the wives could have said something amusing in a tent but they didn't because JR Hartley is a dull git who doesn't do funny.

He really should have been kept away from it along with all those people who say: "But if you've read the book..."

Pawport · 13/10/2022 13:07

Does anyone know how I’d get subtitles on if watching it on an Xbox through the sky app please? I’ve checked Google but can’t find anything and it would really help me keep track of everyone.

another one here in agreement. I seem to remember that Henry Cavill didn’t have any clothes on at one point, not that I’ve watched it numerous times of course !

BlackberryCat · 14/10/2022 04:42

I just love The Witcher. I think Henry Cavill is great in it, but if you are struggling to keep up with House of the Dragon, there’s no way you’d cope with The Witcher as there are different timelines going on at the same time further complicated by the fact that Gerald’s appearance doesn’t change. 😂

Looking forward to seeing some serious dragon action in the last 2 episodes!

RoachTheHorse · 14/10/2022 06:36

Oh but I got the Witcher! But then it's not so deadly serious!

I think it is obvious you like the Witcher 😄

You are all bad influences. Last night I had to watch a little bit of The Tudors. I have never seen it before. Oh, my!

Although I much prefer Daemon's new photo for episode 9.

RoachTheHorse · 14/10/2022 09:32

What gave me away 🤣. The same Roach was with me the whole of Witcher 3 on the XBox. I have a soft spot!
