Are we thinking that Daemon and Rhaenyra had a secret wedding right at the end of the episode? Must admit, found their sex and wedding scenes surprisingly tender and moving if you overlook the raging incest aspect

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 05/10/2022 15:42

I don't think it was a secret wedding exactly. I think they just went back to Dragonstone and did it there.

Was I the only one humming The Brady Bunch theme as the kids looked awkwardly on at their parents snogging at the end of the ceremony?

Exactly! You are supposed to care about the characters but they are not properly introduced, many look similar (I know they're related but still..), and have odd and similar names, eg Rhaenyra /Rhaenys. Eve Best, a brilliant actress, mostly wasted.

We needed more time with these characters. And more daylight!

I agree. I_m still trying to work out who is who and what their relationship is. Not that I really care - they are unlikeable, uninteresting, and most of them indistinguishable from one another.
For me this is the TV disappointment of the year

Here you go! This should help.

I suppose I must find Matt Smith strangely attractive as blond evil Daemon. When he was Doctor Who I found him goofy and funny.

I hadn’t seen him on Doctor Who, I was aware of him and thought him a little strange looking ,but seeing him on The Crown made me think there was something sexy about him, though maybe not the Prince Philip voice lol @BlackberryCat 😃
however if you Google Prince Philip young he was a very handsome man!

667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 05/10/2022 17:18

@WinterIsComingKnitFaster
” hoodie of dark deeds”
😂😂🤣🤣

courgettigreensadwater · 05/10/2022 17:23

@BlackberryCat Mmmmmmm. Ryan Gosling.

BlackberryCat · 05/10/2022 23:28

If I have a sex dream about Prince Philip I'm blaming you lot! 😂

I am really enjoying it so far, I like the way it's shot, all murky.

I haven't read the books but as far as I can see, everyone is taking a side for the inevitable war of succession when Viserys dies.

Alicent / Otto / Larys / Criston
vs
Rhaenyra / Daemon / Corlys / Rhaenys

Plus the children if there is another time jump. And the minor characters will have to align themselves also, like the Royce cousin hates Daemon and presumably Dave Coaches also on Team Alicent? But any Arryns will be with Rhaenyra etc.

Not 100% on who owns which dragons but Alicent's boys both have one now, is that it or does Viserys himself have one?

Rhaenyra and Daemon both ride dragons, plus one each of their children. Rhaenys?

I think it's got better over the last two or three weeks so I'm really looking forward to Monday 🐉

Did anyone else pick up on Helaena predicting that Aemond would lose his eye in exchange for the dragon? Her ramblings seem to be predictions of the future.

I can’t remember this was this in the show ?

Yes. It’s where she’s playing with the centipede. Her mother tells Aemond that he’ll have a dragon one day and Helaena says to know one in particular ‘he’ll have to close an eye’.

Ah yes I do remember! Honestly my memory is crap

Anon778833 · 06/10/2022 18:52

I only noticed it after the second time of watching. There are loads of little things that if you blink you miss it.

Pawport · 06/10/2022 20:01

Can I ask a question please (too scared to Google in case I see spoilers)?
What’s the difference between the Targaryens and the Valerians (sorry, probably spelt those wrong)? They both have the blonde hair and the dragons and can speak that other language. Are they essentially different branches of the same family?

Anon778833 · 06/10/2022 20:15

I think they all come from Old Valyria don’t they?

I have a question, too. Is Viserys becoming a bit senile as he called Alicent ‘Aemma’ ?!

peaceandove · 06/10/2022 20:25

I believe the Velaryons were allies of the Targaryens when they were both noble families in Valryia? Both families left Valryia before the Doom and settled on Dragonstone and Driftmark - they often intermarried in order to keep their Valryian blood pure.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 06/10/2022 20:48

The Velaryons (dark skinned in the show) came from Old Valyria centuries ago and settled Driftmark. They don't have dragons, (unless they breed with Targaryens) but do have seafaring heritage and a big navy.

The Targaryens (light skinned) left Valyria rather later in response to one of the family prophesying The Doom and settled Dragonstone. They do have dragons. After living on Dragonstone island for a while, their King Aegon decided to head out and conquer Westeros. Previously thought to be just because he liked the look of it and had dragons so why not. Now known to be in response to another prophecy, about the White Walkers.

Because they are both Valyrian in ancestry the two houses have remained close.

Thanks for this explanation.

peaceandove · 06/10/2022 21:30

Yes, I think back in Valryia the Velaryons weren't Dragonriders? It was only when they inter-married with Targaryens that they acquired the ability to bond with dragons.

Pawport · 06/10/2022 21:53

Ah thank you, that makes sense now.
Were there any Velaryons in GoT? I can’t recall there being any but I’ve forgotten a lot of it.

I don’t think so. Even the Targaryens were down to the last few. And with Dany losing her mind, that’s where they ended.

Thanks. It’s weird to think that there were these big powerful families who just dwindled down to one person.. I guess this is the whole point of the show, seeing how that happened.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 06/10/2022 22:25

Don't forget Jon Snow. The Targaryen line will presumably carry on above the Wall. And Gendry's an illegitimate descendant as well.
