For example.

Flicking back through actually it's interesting to note that of the few lines of dialogue that are included (about 1 per page) hardly any of them made their way onto the screen.

Fantastic episode 6!

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 26/09/2022 09:51

Lots to talk about! see you this evening. I was yelling at the TV screen "Oh X Sad", "Oh Y, don't do it", "Oh Z you bastard!"

Claymorekick · 26/09/2022 10:03

Just finished watching episode 6 and need to discuss it with others 😬 definitely felt like a step up in terms of character and plot development.

IconicKitty · 26/09/2022 10:07

I think the new actresses are great and it was a good call to change them for the Time jump. Plus they look so much like the younger characters.

I thought dragon riders were immune to fire
('fire cannot kill a dragon') but apparently not - according to Google only Daenerys was the unburnt?

ClaudineClare · 26/09/2022 12:38

That was SO much better! Why didn't they start the whole series at this point and drip feed us the information needed instead of spending 5 episodes faffing about? The adult Alicent and Rhaenyra are both excellent.

limitedperiodonly · 26/09/2022 13:32

@ClaudineClare I agree with you. I hope it continues.

I won't get a chance to watch until tomorrow night - but this is very promising!

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 26/09/2022 15:06

I don't think we can promise to stay spoiler free until tomorrow evening LadyF, you might need to steer clear for 24 hours but I promise it's worth the wait have hankies ready.

When should we open the embargo on episode 6 spoilers? 10pm tonight?

MuddlerInLaw · 26/09/2022 15:34

Thank you for that glimpse of the original text, WinterIsComingKnitFaster - fascinating to see how the adapters have expanded a very few words.

Ep6 was a definite improvement.

LadyFromage · 26/09/2022 16:07

Spoil away (imo).

I'll just stay away until I've seen it :)

I'm not an expert, but I thought the 'prince that was foretold' (or however it was phrased) was the one Targaryen who was immune to fire. As it turned out the prince was a princess (Daenerys).

Claymorekick · 26/09/2022 18:43

Love that Aegon is played by the son/grandson of 2 Doctor Who's and his uncle in the show is another - feels like a nice little coincidence 😃

Though the sight of him butt naked in the window masturbating was not what I needed early this morning 🤣

WhathaveIdoneagain · 26/09/2022 19:07

I thought The Prince That Was Promised was Jon Snow, but I am not sure.

8misskitty8 · 26/09/2022 19:23

The prophecy said he would be borne of fire and ice. Jon snow was half targarean (fire) and half stark (the north so the ice).
Think it was on the knife as well.

8misskitty8 · 26/09/2022 19:26

Loving daemon having his long hair back again.

VinoDino · 26/09/2022 19:38

To echo @ClaudineClare this episode feels like it's finally ramping up. About to watch it again. I feel like I need a Ladybird's guide to each episode as I have so many questions 😂

limitedperiodonly · 26/09/2022 19:43

@WinterIsComingKnitFaster That book excerpt is terrible. I can see why there's an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. Some people really deserve it.

limitedperiodonly · 26/09/2022 19:57

I suppose they made a point of Daemon's wife (sorry, she didn't live long enough for me to remember her name) ordering her dragon to breathe fire so he could fly through it as a spectacle and to show he was unburnt.

FiloPasty · 26/09/2022 21:12

I’m not entirely sold, just feel it’s a bit too copycat. The new little finger especially.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 26/09/2022 23:40

So am I the only one who scoffed when Rhaenyra stood up after giving birth to go to see Alicent and they cut the cord "those idiot male show runners have forgotten that she needs to pass the placenta". Cue ghastly squelching noise...

NB that the writing style is intentionally wooden, because it's written in character by a specific person who has a very wooden style. You definitely need to be a hardcore Westeros fan to read seven hundred pages in that style though. I enjoyed the plot but it took me forever to read.

hopeishere · 27/09/2022 09:09

I thought it was a terrible episode. The Queen looks practically the same age as her son whereas Rhayrndra looks older than the Queen.

Too much squelching
Too like Little Finger
Didn't get the significance of eggs / fire / unburnt

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 27/09/2022 09:22

Emma D'arcy is 30 and Olivia Cooke is 28. I think they look realistic for two women of the same age, one who is beautiful and is at pains to always look her best, and one who is average looking, not fussed about her looks and immediately post-partum. But it's a bit weird that OC is already three or four years younger than her character when the gap in age between them is only going to be lengthening.

Ty Tennant, who plays the oldest of the Queen's sons is twenty, he's meant to be playing 13 but looks at least 15 I'd say.

This is known! 🙂

Yes, you can definitely tick off similar scenes to GOT in each episode.
