Thanks @crackersforcrackers - just had a quick skim and MN doesn’t seem very impressed.Grin I am really enjoying it (The Rings of Power, I mean), I think the episode goes along nice and quick and the men (and women) are far hotter than HOTD (shallow).

MuddlerInLaw · 16/09/2022 10:08

As we’ve been saying … ‘Why is House of the Dragon so dull?’

Ah I'm enjoying it. I love Matt Smith though so I think it helps. Daemon is making it for me tbh.

EasyLifer · 16/09/2022 14:27

I'm only watching for Matt Smith! I'm bored of the Princess and King and long talkie scenes about if she's the heir or not, I really don't care.

Honeyroar · 14/09/2022 23:13

I’m enjoying it more each episode. I knew she’d end up with her uncle. Not quite sure why she ended up jumping the bodyguard - because there weren’t any Anne Summers shops in those days?? Was she just frustrated?

I thought at the time that condemning the hottest man in the vicinity to a lifetime of celibacy might turn out to be a mistake.

RoachTheHorse · 16/09/2022 15:13

Pretty obvious she was going to get it in with Cole. Although that whole seduction scene was uncomfortable. Removing armour isn't that sexy, I just wondered how stinky it would have been!

The only reasonably attractive man in the series. Where are the charming men?
I liked Matt Smith as Phillip but he seems strangely lost in this.

crackersforcrackers · 16/09/2022 20:29

@PuppyMonkeyI confess I stopped watching as I want to binge TROP at the end Grin I do miss the eye candy that was in GOT, I'm glad to hear there's a better selection in Rings Wink

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 16/09/2022 23:16

Laenor Velaryon is definite eye candy. I don’t know whether they’ll be replacing the actor with the time jump.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 17/09/2022 14:02

Also Ser Harwin must ve an eye candle. But we saw very little of him when he caught Rhaenyra in King's Landing.

crackersforcrackers · 17/09/2022 15:45

@WinterIsComingKnitFaster (great username!) I agree Laenor is handsome, @WhathaveIdoneagain according to google this is the Ser Harwin actor and I would have to respectfully disagree Grin

Hmmmm. Thanks for the photo @crackersforcrackers

AnImaginaryCat · 17/09/2022 16:49

Laenor is streets ahead of Matt Smith though in attractive male stakes.. Greatly assisted, no doubt, by not having a wig that's vying for first place in World's Most Awful Wig.

Is Matt Smith still wearing a wig though now his hair is short ? I wondered if it was his own hair bleached?

Robin233 · 18/09/2022 08:09

Yes I thought it was his own hair.

667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 18/09/2022 09:28

Can anyone tell me what is going on with Daemon and the shagging not shagging ? Can’t he keep it up or did he have second thoughts in the brothel ? We had previously seen him have trouble with the prostitute with the dark hair, I can’t remember her name. I have read the book but many years ago now and so many characters I can’t remember this part of the story.

LoobyDop · 18/09/2022 20:05

I definitely do not understand Rhaenyra’s reluctance to marry Laenor. As oppressive forced marriages go, he would not seem to be an unbearable option to me. Especially as his chances of getting tragically felled in battle before he’s 30 leaving her a rich, independent widow, are higher than average.

Univalve · 13/09/2022 13:24

I’m enjoying it, but the hair! It’s so appalling. I only noticed it last night and now I can’t un-notice it. There was one scene where Rhaenyra’s dark hair was sticking out from under her wig (and her wig is frightful! Why didn’t they just bleach her hair? It looks awful). Paddy Considine looks like a vagrant biker in need of some frizzease, Matt Smith’s was bright yellow at one point like it had just been hurriedly home bleached. And the male Targaryens all have black stubble which just makes them look scruffy. The costumes are amazing, why can’t they sort the bloody hair out? 😂

I completely agree about the dark stubble, it’s very distracting and I don’t understand why they didn’t sort it out. I didn’t see the dark hair sticking out from under the wig though lol. I usually find Matt Smith quite sexy but I’m getting Boris vibes from his hair/wig 😅

FawnDrench · 19/09/2022 22:08

My god will they every stop with the bloody "dancing" - apart from that it wasn't a bad episode at all.

Lweji · 19/09/2022 22:29

I quite enjoyed this one. From the first death.

crackersforcrackers · 20/09/2022 00:29

I didn't enjoy this episode so much because I kept thinking how much better it would have been done in GOT, better dialogue and better acting, and we definitely would have seen Daemon bashing his wife's head in full splatter!

Meili04 · 20/09/2022 01:26

Absolutely loved it. I'm not comparing it to GOT, it's, it's own unique story. I've always liked the lore and history of the Targaryen dynasty. They are unique compared to the other houses with the magic, dragons and customs. There wasn't enough about the Targaryens in GOT as Dany was the last one (apart from Jon but I will always see him as a stark ) I think I will be comparing it to the Jon Snow sequel though.

I completely agree - it can’t be compared to GOT.

plicks · 20/09/2022 07:48

Did the actress who played Daemon's wife do something wrong? Seems weird that she was invisible until she croaked it.

Also her comments about Daemon's inability to consummate the marriage- that's the 3rd time it's been hinted at that he might have problems in that area.

I found it annoying that rhaenyra was having such an illicit conversation with Criston in the wide open on the boat.

I also don't really understand her..does reciprocate criston's love or not? Or does she just see it as a casual thing? Did she drink the drink? Is she just turned power hungry?

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 20/09/2022 08:34

I think that the whole point of Rhea Royce is that she spends her time "off screen", far from court, and Daemon never actually goes back to the Vale, no matter how often he's ordered to. So the only things we could have been shown are "meanwhile, back in the beautiful scenery of The Vale, Rhea is having a lovely time being a competent ruler and an excellent horsewoman". Which would have been a nice change from dark dealings in dark halls, but not advanced the plot.

I'm not a huge fan of how they killed her though. It's all very well being ambiguous about whether the fall was intentional but you lose that ambiguity if you then have him stove her head in with a big rock.
