I was really looking forward to the third series of the boys, but sadly I just can't get into it, others seem to be really enjoying it, so it's a me thing.

Could really do with something to get into, any recommendations?

The last things I watched that impressed me were station 11 and top boy (bit late to the party with that one).

I watched The Cry and Liar on Netflix and found both gripping.

I may destroy you was fantastic too.

I rather enjoyed Everything I Know about love on iplayer as I lived near Camden in my 20s so was nostalgic.

If you haven't seen it I also recommend Insecure, with Issa Rae who is magnificent.

If you loved girls then I'm begging you to watch fleabag

Yeah I also love fleabag too, certainly in my top 10.

Sherwood - iPlayer
The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem - Netflix (but set it so that it's in original Hebrew with English subtitles)

Star Trek Discovery is on Prime. (Though not free.) All four seasons excellent and I love the way the story twists and develops.

I have recently rewatched all the Matt Smith + Amy and Rory Dr Who seasons. Just magnificent.

Are you looking forward to rtd2? I saw some puff piece about ramps being on the tardis, I think that means the woman from years and years could be a companion. That would be good she was quite canny.

Agree Sherwood and Magpie Murders are great
Outlaws is also very good but to fully enjoy it watch series one first otherwise it won't seem as good
Money heist also good but again watch from series one which I think is the best.
And I know it's old now but I was very Kate coming to it but I loved Derry girls. I have recently watched it all.

GlitchStitch · 01/07/2022 17:21

Just watched The First Lady on Paramount Plus. A couple of the performances were a bit jarring but worth it for Michelle Pfeiffer alone, she is amazing in it.

Blue4YOU · 01/07/2022 17:25

Unbelievable is fantastic.
i recently enjoyed Two Summers
Thought I’d like Foundation but four episodes on I’ve abandoned it
Now watching Black Summer and Better Call Saul
Loved this season of Stranger Things
Also love love love Succession
Fleabag is lots of fun
Dark is great too
Oldies like The Killing were great
I want something like that!!

LulusMiniEgg · 01/07/2022 17:28

Mr Inbetween on Disney, absolutely fantastic acting. Loved it so much. 3 series to binge on you won’t regret it!

MuddlerInLaw · 01/07/2022 17:32

I can hardly wait! Cried with joy when the new Doctor was announced.

the woman from years and years could be a companion

Interesting … She was excellent in Y&Y. Which was itself horrifyingly prescient. Much preferred that to It’s a Sin. Fingers crossed we’ll get RTD at his best - ie giving equal space to women’s lives.

darisdet · 01/07/2022 17:35

I'd also recommend the Beauty Queen of Jerusalem. I'm just about to read the book.

Firesidefox · 01/07/2022 17:37

After Life on Netflix - so lovely, so easy to watch, so funny

Hacks - really great American series about a fading celebrity in Las Vegas. Very funny and clever.

Thighdentitycrisis · 01/07/2022 17:47

last year I was totally into The last Kingdom
recently enjoyed Road Kill on Netflix
i really liked Maid - set in Canada?

Daftasabroom · 01/07/2022 18:00

After Life, I'm not normally a big Ricky Gervais fan but this was a really touching love story as well as tale of grief. Fantastic supporting cast.

Peanut Butter Falcon was indie film of the lady five years.

The Laundromat, fabulous acting by Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas.

Baby Driver for the soundtrack and some action.

DIFleming · 01/07/2022 18:24

Queen of the south - Netflix

Featuredcreature · 01/07/2022 19:21

The only reason I think that is because he usually seems to use the same actors. I could be very wrong. Nobody guessed Ncuti would be the new doctor, I do mostly trust RTD to be sensitive to everyone's sensibilities.

He knows how to work the media, reckon his specials and new series are going to be magnificent Grin

We Own This City
The Wire
Mad Men (currently rewatching)
Bosch
Atlanta
Sherwood

SharpLily · 01/07/2022 19:29

The Good Doctor. Kept staying up way too late at night binging on it.

Featuredcreature · 01/07/2022 19:33

I really want to watch the wire, how many episodes does it take to get hooked? The first one does not do it.

OP posts:
MargotChateau · 01/07/2022 20:06

@Featuredcreature it takes about three to get into as it’s a slow burn and character led. But it’s worth the investment, best show I’ve ever seen, hands down

outnumbered77 · 01/07/2022 20:09

Ted Lasso

MistyFuckingQuigley · 01/07/2022 20:24

Tv series

Dark
Yellowjackets
The Bridge

Film

Last night in soho, watched this the other night not really knowing what to expect and it was excellent. It was Diana Riggs last film. Cracking soundtrack as well.

Idiotintraining · 01/07/2022 20:46

Think it was the boys on channel 4.

About a gay man and a straight man off to university.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 01/07/2022 20:49

Slow Horses very good. Also watched 3 seasons of Fauda, really good atmospheric tension in it loved it. Nothing worth watching on Netflix don't know why we keep getting it but son wanted to see Stranger Things and it did not disappoint.

MuddlerInLaw · 01/07/2022 20:53

OMG! Last Night in Soho was infuriating - such a disappointment. Was as if a production company had gathered the most superb forces - actors, sound, vision, whatever - and then handed the writing over to a bunch of mock-GCSE pupils. Not even the proper exams, the ones where you just cram it all in the night before and cross your fingers. Angry

Then the following night I watched Spiderhead, which was equally beautiful and stylish and dreadful in exactly the same way!
