If you are prepared to give Korean series a go, there are some excellent crime series.

These ones are played straight and are similar in sensibility to scandinoir:

Stranger (2 seasons, both excellent)
The Lies Within (gory in places)
My Name (revenge thriller, lots of violence)

Korean TV is also not averse to genre mash-ups, so these combine a crime story with another strand - time travel, supernatural etc.

I Hear Your Voice
Life on Mars (classy remake of BBC series, no major site yet)
Signal (2 different time lines linked)
Suspicious Partner (serial killer, legal, romance)
Tunnel (2 different timelines linked/time travel)

I am also going back to page 1 of this thread with my Netflix account open in another tab so I can bookmark your suggestions. I love subtitled TV - as someone else said, you have to give it your full attention and there’s so much great content out there.

Added lots of things to my list from this thread! Watched To The Lake which I really enjoyed. I watched series 1 of Babylon Berlin which was good so will continue on with that, but now on with Darkness: Those Who Kill and also enjoying so far.

It seems The bureau is on Prime but not included and need to register for Sundance free trial to watch.

The Invisible Guest as I said up thread is one of my favourite crime movies ever and Parasite is also outstanding if you have not yet seen it. The best film Oscar was absolutely deserved.
