so glad you started this thread i've just finished snowangels which was brilliant, going to start the mess you left behind this afternoon

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 17/04/2022 08:46

Lupin

NETSRIK · 18/04/2022 09:41

@Awrite

Darkness: Those who kill and Blinded: Those who kill are both on iPlayer. Danish I think.
Just watched these- really good recommendations!
Etinoxaurus · 18/04/2022 09:43

Spiral, although it’s gruesome.
Le Bureau is I think the best thing I’ve ever watched.

Etinoxaurus · 18/04/2022 09:44

@TanteRose

Giri/Haji is brilliant - set in London and Tokyo
Oh no, that was the best thing I’ve ever seen.
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/04/2022 09:44

@valerianaofficiana

The Bridge, Swedish/ Norwegian, fantastic.
The Bridge is our favourite, not that we've watched many, but it's Swedish/Danish.
milveycrohn · 18/04/2022 10:01

The Defeated.
Set in post war Berlin, an American is sent to set up a new police force, etc

yumscrumfatbum · 18/04/2022 10:05

Money Heist

FlorianImogen · 19/04/2022 11:50

@hopperrock

Ok so this is probably annoying because it's on prime rather than Netflix and it's spies rather than crime but The Bureau is really good. It's French.

On Netflix Fauda is supposed to be good but I haven't got round to watching it yet.

Fauna is excellent.
FlorianImogen · 19/04/2022 11:51

Sorry typo 'Fauda'

rosegoldwatcher · 19/04/2022 13:10

Some others that may not have been mentioned so far:-

Quicksand - Swedish
Equinox - Danish
The Unlikely Murderer - true story of the killing of the Swedish Prime Minister
Blackspot - French
Perfume - French
The Day Will Come - Danish film, harrowing.
The Girl from Oslo - some Norwegian but set in the Middle East

Politics rather than crime - Borgen -Danish and brilliant!

If you fancy something lighter, the Swedish series Bonus Family is very good.

Facciadimerda · 19/04/2022 16:03

Baby (Italian)
Elite (Spanish) - this one is set in a high school but it's not teeny or babyish, I'm in my 40s and was gripped by it.

midsomermurderess · 19/04/2022 16:14

Black Spot on Netflix is good. French policier, supernatural undertones. It's set/filmed in the Vosges Mountains in Eastern France. It's quite a threatening, spooky landscape.

midsomermurderess · 19/04/2022 18:22

A very Scandi Scandal on Walter Presents is a laugh. Two very respectable, middle-aged women go off the rails, all the time fretting, trying to justify their actions in a rather staid, conventional Sweden. I'm also fond of The Sandhamn Murders, set on a lovely island in the Stockholm Archipelago. Satisfying, if I can say that, murders, various engaging back and side stories, and such a lovely setting. It's on Prime.

Bretonbear · 20/04/2022 17:21

The Bridge
Spiral

CanofCant · 20/04/2022 17:49

Another one for La Mante, Dark too is excellent. The Mire is a brilliant slow burn. I loved Perfume too but it was a German version that I watched. Oh and Good Morning Veronica was great. As was Signs.

CanofCant · 20/04/2022 17:50

Oh and Trapped is brilliant on Prime.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 20/04/2022 18:30

A Very Secret Service -French, set in early sixties, spies. Very cool.
On Apple, Slow Horses. Basically if George Smiley had cocked up and was sent to Coventry. (Weirdly enough the main guy is played by Gary Oldman as the antithesis of Smiley.) The books are great easy but exciting.

MichonnesBBF · 20/04/2022 18:33

Absolutely to 3% and The Rain.
Loved them both.

BuddhaAtSea · 20/04/2022 18:57

Thank you :)!!

rosegoldwatcher · 21/04/2022 14:17

@CanofCant - yes, you are right, Perfume (the series) is in German!

Thank you to PP who recommended When the Dust Settles. I am half way through and it is superb.

fussychica · 21/04/2022 15:38

Money Heist (La Casa de Papel) is fantastic.
I know Fauda was well thought of but couldn't warm to it and only watched the first season.
Lupin was good
Just watched Valley of Tears, very good but war rather than thriller.
Loved all the usual foreign series The Killing, The Bridge, Spiral, Der Pass, Das Boot is also fab. Mafia only Kills in Summer was brilliant as was Professor T, both Walter Presents but think they have both gone from the platform now.
Couldn't get into The Investigation at all.

HappyMackerel · 21/04/2022 15:40

Unbelievable is very very good

FrancescaContini · 22/04/2022 13:23

It was me who recommended When the Dust Settles - glad you are enjoying it!

I’ve finished Snow Angels - thank you for the recommendation! It was excellent, and not what I expected. Excellent drama, gripping.

XelaM · 23/04/2022 05:21

Has anyone else seen The Invisible Guest on Netflix? It's Spanish. One of the best crime/thrillers I have ever seen. It's a MUST watch
