Has Jamie Dornan as a man who finds himself in Australia with amnesia trying to piece together who is trying to kill him. Has been likened to the film Memento with Guy Pearce. Looks promising.

Yes - she sold it to him for cash "in the street" a few days ago. So, no paper trail or names.

Notjustanymum · 02/01/2022 13:51

Watched episodes 1 & 2 last night and really enjoyed it. However, does anyone else think that the relationship between the Police Deputy and her Fiancé is a little two- dimensional and is also almost a carbon copy of the roles played by Billy Hunter and his screen wives in both Strictly Ballroom and Muriel’s Wedding?
Also the unhelpfulness of the Tour Guides guys…
Surely most Aussies are more laid-back than that? (Disclaimer - I’ve never been to Oz, but my DC assures me that the people they met over there were nowhere near as intransigent or misogynistic as the portrayals of the Fiancé and the chess-playing heli tour guides!)

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2022 14:02

NO SPOILERS!!!

Notjustanymum · 02/01/2022 14:20

@Piggywaspushed, I hope my post didn’t spoil anything? If it did, I’m sorry - I tried not to give away any plot, just characterisations…

CovidCorvid · 02/01/2022 14:23

I’m really enjoying it.

StCharlotte · 02/01/2022 14:26

@Blondeshavemorefun

You beat me to it *@Rollergirl11*

Looks good

And yes please to weekly pace

Blondes doesn’t binge 😂

This blonde did. Finished the whole series at 3am.

So I will leave this thread as it's spoiler-free Smile

the80sweregreat · 02/01/2022 14:29

I went to Oz in the mid 80s and found them to be a mix , some were friendly some not so much. They are pretty straight talking and up front, which I liked.
No idea what it's like now.

Pythian · 02/01/2022 14:49

It's a country with 25m inhabitants so obviously they're not all going to have the same personality type. I haven't been there but I have a sizeable lot of relatives there and while some of them are laid-back and friendly there are also some who are a bit neurotic and anxious, just like you would find anywhere else!

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2022 14:57

No, but you mentioned characters who aren't in episode one...

the80sweregreat · 02/01/2022 15:15

They were much more abrasive than the average Brit ! Overall we tend to be more polite I think ? I did like it there though , but it would be way too hot for me to live there though!!
I like the cold.

I think no spoilers means no reference to anything outside what’s been shown on TV. I don’t remember any chess playing tour guides in episode 1 - did I miss them?

TheMoth · 02/01/2022 16:01

Has anyone read The Hunted? Or maybe it was Hunted.

More bonkers than what I've seen so far of The Tourist, but similar vibe around weird little outback towns and the sense of being completely isolated.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 02/01/2022 16:19

i am enjoying it, but thought there was only four episodes, and that i'd finish this morning, however there's six ...i squeezed in two this morning while dh was sleeping off night shift and I have one to go!

I was telling DH about it and said to him it was very Fargo. As another poster said, it's the police characters that give that vibe.

CailleachGranda · 02/01/2022 16:34

@hamsterchump

What was the point of the scene of the man weeing while he was on the phone and why was he weeing though a tube or something, were we meant to get why that was?
Which bit was that. I don't remember it
CailleachGranda · 02/01/2022 16:35

Lots of good stuff on tonight so I might wait and binge tomorrow

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2022 16:47

Title has now been edited to no spoilers. Thanks OP!

IcedPurple · 02/01/2022 16:56

That, and the small town locations with their own 'subculture' and quirky local characters. That said, "Fargo" was very funny, but this seems a bit more serious.

fabulouslyglamorousferret · 02/01/2022 16:56

I'm absolutely loving it ... I've binged episodes 1-4 will watch the last 2 tomorrow (and then wallow in self loathing every Sunday night for the next 6wks!)

It's got everything, even a bit of humour, it's flipping ace!!

Cocoabutterformula · 02/01/2022 17:09

Australian outback is just like that, utterly desolate and simultaneously suffocating. Hated it with a passion, that relentless heat and dust, always felt you could easily disappear without trace out there. Great series!

LadyEloise1 · 02/01/2022 17:14

@Blondeshavemorefun
Glad you're on board. I thought you'd have started a thread. You normally do.

the80sweregreat · 02/01/2022 18:16

I have started a spoiler thread on telly addicts
Can't do the links , sorry.
Come over if your a ' binger' like me!

NatashaBedwouldbenice · 02/01/2022 18:17

I loved it. I like the tourist, I like the (probationary) police officer and I love the cinematography.

The scenes of the man trapped are a bit too stress-provoking.

It does feel like some of the other characters are in on it.

Notjustanymum · 02/01/2022 18:24

@Piggywaspushed, @TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross apologies - I will be more mindful next time…

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/01/2022 20:13

@LadyEloise1 I was beaten 😂

I thought was good. Not slow

Why did the girl from cafe delete pics

Why did someone try to bomb him /them

Why did he buy a koala with a phone in it

He is someone obv in the plan to know to get the koala before lost memory

Plus in 3 days he lost memory - was in wheelchair - crutches then could walk easily

Bearded man is a little bit nutty. My mum used to do that. Fine work you all do

gerardsbutler · 02/01/2022 20:40

I am enjoying it. On episode 4. It reminds me of Mad Dogs a bit. It's funny but a bit brutal.
