What is the point of this nonsense made up argument between Adam and Sarah?

I think it’s to cause an argument and a break up. Then Adam will sleep with someone else, Sarah will find out she is pregnant so get back together and Adam will have to try keep it a secret that he’s slept with someone else. But it’ll all come out on Xmas day 2022!! That’s my prediction anyway! Or, Sarah have a one night stand with Gary and then it’s a who’s the daddy storyline?! And it’ll come out that Gary is the dad on Xmas day 2022!! Again, not a spoiler
