SPOILER-FREE THREAD

EvilRingahBitch · 28/11/2021 10:06

To be fair when I'm at work and have just done a difficult presentation nobody has ever presented me with a video message of my elderly grand parents on the other side of the world saying how proud they are of me.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 28/11/2021 10:11

True Grin

Phineyj · 28/11/2021 10:14

Wow, mine died circa 1994 and 2005 so that would be really spooky too!

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 28/11/2021 10:15

Yeah would be quite the shock for me too!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/11/2021 10:18

Poor Rhys. I think he's probably shattered as well. Salford to London is fine a few times, but every week for months and all the training on top must be difficult. You don't really get a weekend either when you're doing Strictly!

I still don't feel I know him that well. I haven't watched much ITT this year.

OP posts:
TheDrsDocMartens · 28/11/2021 10:18

I think his tears were genuine. Tired, working hard, pulled off a dance which is suspect wasn’t easy. Then grandparents from the other side of the world saying how proud they were.

I wasn’t so sympathetic to Ore who cried every week and Johannes who is doing his job.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 28/11/2021 10:19

Redcrayons

I don’t mind the guessing during the results show, I don’t keep track of the thread enough to know who’s right every week. I’m assuming everyone enjoys not knowing and speculating the same as I do.
I 100% agree about spoilers and hints about spoilers and I have reported in the past.

Same. There was someone who deliberately posted the result at least twice, but that was two series ago, not recently, and there’s never been anything remotely like a spoiler on this thread since, as far as I’m aware.

Phineyj · 28/11/2021 10:20

True, the news from South Africa is bad though isn't it? Maybe that's a factor.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/11/2021 10:21

I try to avoid putting a spoiler in a new thread title if I start one after the show on Sunday/Monday (so I don't accidentally spoil it for people watching later) but I think we're usually pretty good — if anything it's people who don't follow the thread who are more likely to post spoilers I think!

Motsi has posted on the Strictly Insta page under each couple what her scores would have been...
Tilly 8
Rhys 9
AJ 10
Dan 8
Rose 8
John 10

Exactly, it would have been weird if there wasn’t an emotional response, not having an emotional response in that situation would show a fairly unhealthy attitude to normal human emotions.
Sunbird24 · 28/11/2021 10:30

I was quite impressed that they managed to get Rhys’s DGPs on camera from the Caribbean - bet the production staff were all fighting to be the one to go out and set that up!

Claymorekick · 28/11/2021 10:35

So when did 'judge the celebs against themselves rather than each other' become a thing? Hmm This series it seems as it has never been mentioned before - and clearly only to justify the total bonkers marking. they should be judged against each other as it is a competition ffs

Still so mad by last night Angry

Samcro · 28/11/2021 10:35

rhys can always leave its not a prison. its a light entertainment show.
anyways it will be interesting to see who is in the DO.

queenjaneappro · 28/11/2021 11:21

I voted for Rose and AJ as they're my faves - although I wasn't blown away by either last night. I gave Rhys a sympathy vote.
Would love to see Dan go.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 28/11/2021 11:23

I’m not sure if Rhys’s tears were of the Shirley Temple variety or not but I do feel that the elastic has pinged on his relentlessly cheerful CBBC pants and it’s proving more of an effort to keep hoiking them up than he anticipated would be the case when he agreed to take part.

He’s certainly a better dancer than Dan, say, but Dan is preternaturally calm and sunny, and his unabashed enthusiasm is not dented in the slightest by criticism, whereas I get the impression Rhys’s ego is a little more troubled by negative feedback.

(Watch Strictly Come Dancing for lessons in life!)

bonfireheart · 28/11/2021 11:25

I am one those who really doesn't mind Dan. Glad he isn't being a comedy contestant and I've watched some of his dances back more than once. However, I don't watch the news show he is on so am really really surprised at his following- it's like he's the Harry Styles of daytime news. I must watch it to see what everyone else sees. And tbf I thought he's rumba was OK, I think for any guy you need to count yourself lucky to not embarass yourself in the rumba, although the 9 was surprising...maybe Cynthia watches his news show too and is under his spell too.

bonfireheart · 28/11/2021 11:26

Coincidentally Dan's video re men and emotions yesterday as it was the anniversary of Gary Speeds death was very touching.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 28/11/2021 11:32

I’m not a Dan fan particularly, just intrigued by his strange mixture of awkwardness and confidence. And his relationship with Nadiya.

Even I would be somewhat discombobulated by the vision of Nadiya in the training room in her practise dancewear, looking glorious. But Dan seems to be capable of maintaining an air of innocent appreciation. ’That’s good old Nadz over there! She’s a great teacher!’

But then, they produce their dance on the night and it feels like Dan knows. There’s an undercurrent of ‘Okay, I admit it, I’m a man and you, good old Nadz, are most definitely a woman!!’

Something authentic is created between the two of them, something not quite said outright.

I think that’s what Cynthia was responding to when she gave them a 9. She was giving an artistic impression mark rather than a technical merit one, like in ice skating, marking the dance as a piece of theatre.

(I’ll shut up about Dan now!)

DontGiveAFlyingFig · 28/11/2021 11:36

@OutwiththeOutCrowd I agree, I love how she always calls him Daniel.

bonfireheart · 28/11/2021 11:38

By the law of maths, if one of Rhys or Tilly goes today as everyone expects then that means one of the faves will be in DO next week, what a drama that'll be esp as I Still don't think it'll be Dan.

EvilRingahBitch · 28/11/2021 11:44

I think that having Tilly and Rhys, whom we know have weak votes, relatively low on the leaderboard maybe protects Dan this week, even with no ties. I'm sure Dan is getting votes but I wouldn't put money on him getting more than the Big 3.

Maireas · 28/11/2021 11:47

@bonfireheart

Oh my goodness, that was so moving. Dan was so kind and sensitive.
ChoccyJules · 28/11/2021 11:52

I hope it’s Dan out but who knows how many BBC morning viewers are out there!
I don’t think Tilly should go as she had 40 last week and as previously said, she struggled with the dance because of her lovely refreshing character.
Would have thought Motsi (and the others) would score Rose higher than Dan!

ilovebrie8 · 28/11/2021 11:58

Dan and Nadiya a strange coupling...she’s gorgeous obviously and he comes across kind of non plussed and mr dull/robotic almost....am sure he must register she’s a stunner ....cannot believe he’s still in but hey ho!!! It was be a travesty if he reaches the final !!
