Ubiquery · 18/11/2021 20:20
I’ve just read it starts Friday 19th. Please be good. Please be good. Please be good…
Ubiquery · 24/11/2021 07:30
When are new episodes released? I can’t find an answer.
SoupDragon · 24/11/2021 07:36
It said "new episodes Fridays" somewhere! I need to watch episode 3 before Friday.
SoupDragon · 24/11/2021 07:38
G0T was a lot edgier
The books of GOT v the wheel of time are completely different though. GOT was extremely dark and I couldn't stomach more than the first book.
Ubiquery · 24/11/2021 07:43
Oh, I was hoping not to have to wait until Friday. The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills.
MaidenoftheSpear · 24/11/2021 09:54
@HugeAckmansWife
The first book, ergo the first few episodes, are heavily "influenced" by LotR - but as the series progresses it comes into its own, far more involved than the just one hero off to save the world from baddies.
Eps 1&2 didn't do a great job, 3 is better and I hear that Ep4 is even better, and it has Alvaro Morte in (The Professor from Money Heist)
It's a shame the series hasn't begun with a bang- but then neither did the books

Campervan69 · 24/11/2021 11:34
This seems nicer with more of a moral compass than Game of Thrones which I would have loved if it wasn't for the seedy sadistic pornographic undertones running through the series. It made me feel dirty once I had watched it somehow it was weird.
Belathecreator · 24/11/2021 13:15
If anyone wants some bonus content, try going into Amazon on something other than a smart TV and then use the x-ray feature. There's behind the scenes stuff (which is too much breaking the fourth wall for me) but also some short animations giving non-essential, but interesting, background info.
onceandneveragain · 24/11/2021 20:14
@Allsorts1
Also so many of the scenes were exactly as I had pictured in my head - they have really drawn on the source material quite heavily - the layout of the town was exactly as I pictured.
The script is great and laugh out loud funny and they’ve kept it fresh with even a joke about Rand & Matt being lovers.
The cast is fantastic and diverse! And Rosamund Pike is brilliant - I saw she is a producer too.
laugh out loud funny???? Where? The one thing I was thinking is that it is all way too poe-faced and Magick.Is.Serious.Business. At least GOT/ LOTR has elements of light humour which make the characters more realistic and make you actually care about them.
Faircastle · 24/11/2021 21:12
I've watched the first three episodes now, and it's growing on me.
thevassal · 25/11/2021 23:37
1st episode was pretty awful tbh but 2nd and 3rd were much better to the extent I was annoyed when 4th wasn't up. Haven't really seen the humour other posters lauded upthread though and it could badly so with some - or at least some witty wordplay got style, all the characters seem very po faced.
I don't understand why mat was deciding to go back to his village when before he was the one who was persuading rand to stay? If he didnt believe what morraine was saying about the trollocs (my autocorrect really doesn't like that word, kept changing it to trollies which sounds much less intimidating!) why did he leave in the first place?
GlumyGloomer · 26/11/2021 17:56
I overcame my nerves to get through ep2 and I'm totally hooked now. Not because it's been particularly brilliant, but because of the warm glow of nostalgia I get from it. I thought ep 3 was great. Not finished 4 yet but it's a little bitty. I wonder if they should have done one episode per group to really focus on them. I do like Logain though.
NynaeveSedai · 26/11/2021 18:21
Episode 4 though!!!
Wow
Ubiquery · 26/11/2021 18:34
I enjoyed episode 4, the pace has really picked up. Wins for me were the portrayal and development of the warders, Nynaeve, Mat and the dreams that the boys are having. I really like the Logain storyline too, all of that in one episode.
Boredsillyathome · 26/11/2021 22:21
Episode 4 was brilliant the last 10 minutes were amazing!
MaidenoftheSpear · 26/11/2021 22:38
The ending of Episode 4, bloody hell - I'm actually feeling slightly sick I've got so much adrenaline, haha! I know it's only telly but that was superb!
GrouchyKiwi · 26/11/2021 23:05
Loved Episode 4. They're definitely finding their stride with the story.
Campervan69 · 26/11/2021 23:45
Ooooh yes, so good. Lots of strong female characters. And male eye candy. I mean, strong male characters.....
Unsuremover · 27/11/2021 00:10
Harrumph. I don’t like it. I read the books and thought I remembered enough of the plot but I’m not hugely recognising it here. Everything is a bit too pretty. And pacey. I get it the books were many and long and you can’t make a tv show where nothing seems to happen for hours.
Without spoilers I think I can get into though as the fate of the characters follows the same path. But they keep getting out of danger too quickly to build enough tension for me.
GlumyGloomer · 27/11/2021 08:06
Yep, the ending of ep 4 was awesome.
Belathecreator · 27/11/2021 08:59
End of episode four was excellent, and sums up Nynaeve's character so well. She really doesn't approve of injuries she can't heal.
Zampa · 27/11/2021 10:01
I've not read the books so coming to the show completely cold. I think I definitely benefit from the X-Ray notes explaining certain background points as things are whizzing along at quite a speed.
Agree that they seem to escape danger/threats very quickly and they do seem very lucky that rivers/evil cities/random passers-by are there to save them just at the right time.
Two Rivers did come across as bucolic to me. Fresh crisp mountain air, beautiful clear river, healthy, well fed villagers (apart from Mat's family, which felt odd until a PP pointed out that isn't his background in the books).
I'm looking forward to the rest of the series but can't believe that there are only 4 more episodes to go!
Zampa · 27/11/2021 10:08
I've just seen from a Den of Geek episode review that the book readers already know who the Dragon Reborn is, as they narrate the first book on which this series is based.
Is that right (no spoilers please!)?
NynaeveSedai · 27/11/2021 10:09
@Zampa
Is that right (no spoilers please!)?
It's very obvious from early on in book one who the dragon is. The show is making it more of a mystery than the books did.
Zampa · 27/11/2021 10:33
Thank you @nynaeveSedai. I am presuming from from your username that Nynaeve becomes an Aes Sedai, which I suppose is inevitable after episode 4.
I think a lot of the dramatic tension in the show comes from not knowing who the Dragon Reborn is so guessing it's but working as well for people who already know?
NynaeveSedai · 27/11/2021 10:36
Yeah sorry about that - I realised my name could be viewed as a bit of a spoiler but it was an old one I've had for ages. I'm not going to confirm or deny because it's not as simple as that!
There is a lot of drama anyway. Too much some might say. I am pleased they will be losing a lot of the filler for the TV show! I'm enjoying it in a different way to someone who hasn't read the books of course.
