I think everyone has lost interest. I used to love Doctor Who but cba to watch this series. How's it been?

GlacindaTheTroll · 08/11/2021 21:13

thanks
did see that thread, but as you say it didn't get going. just looking to see what others think of this series.

DD and I are completely confused!

jay55 · 09/11/2021 07:48

I'm enjoying the storyline.

I hate the doctor and Jazz screaming and squealing.

Trixiefirecracker · 09/11/2021 07:49

We watched first one and just thought it was awful. Acting was all-round terrible, plot was cringeworthy. Very disappointed.

MrsFin · 09/11/2021 08:26

It's probably the actress rather than her sex, but having a female Doctor doesn't work for me. Jodie Whatsit is awful in the role.

ShowOfHands · 09/11/2021 08:29

I've seen the first one and went to make a cup of tea halfway through Sunday's and forgot to go back. I used to sit on the edge of my seat for the entire thing.

FinallyHere · 09/11/2021 08:34

Jodie Whatsit is awful in the role.

I'm completely puzzled why the director would want The Doctor to act as if they are permanently confused by what is going on.

What chance does it give the rest of us to follow anything. It really irritates my that the usually borderline almost smug, I'm the only one who knows what is happening and of course I anticipated this move snd am ready with a brilliant strategy smart ar*e Doctor's most repeat line is some version of WTF is happening ?

Sigh. You surely don't think it's is because she is a women, do you ?

SoupDragon · 09/11/2021 09:00

I think it's the writing.
Trixiefirecracker · 09/11/2021 09:26

I think it’s the writing too but also don’t think she’s a great actress.

ChevreChase · 09/11/2021 10:06

So irritating, I gave up. DS asked the other evening if we could watch some old episodes, so that weekend we watched Blink, The Eleventh Hour, and Midnight, and it's just like an entirely different show.

If it didn't have residual loyalty due to it being 'Dr Who', I doubt it would keep getting recommissioned. I did watch all of the last series, apart from the final double-episode: that's how uninvested I felt by it, that I had watched the whole of the series to keep DS company, but couldn't be arsed with two more hours of it.

Optimistic with the new/old team due to come back and sort it out though.

GrandTheftWalrus · 09/11/2021 12:07

I could play a part in all episodes from Christopher Eccleston to Peter capaldi. However since jodie whittaker took over I've lost complete interest. It's not because the doctor is a woman, it's because of her, she's crap at it and the writing is terrible.

Roll on RTD coming back!

Samcro · 09/11/2021 14:47

im enjoying it. love John Bishop. but don't like the doctor or Yaz/

Bit of both probably.

I thought they'd brought back Russel Davies for this series, but maybe it's the next one if there is a next one.

DontGiveAFlyingFig · 09/11/2021 15:34

I have no idea what's going on but I'll persevere and I loved John Bishop and his wok Grin

2boysDad · 09/11/2021 15:37

Maybe if Chris Chibnall (the lead writer) had tried to recruit a better actor and not one of his friends to get the part of the Doctor then having a woman as the doctor might have worked better.

Would have loved to have seen Joanna Lumley take the role on...

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/11/2021 15:38

The body count is very high already.

And what's happened to poor Di locked in a flooded basement in Liverpool? Was Azure trapped in a human body and then married that man who put chillies in the fridge? Was the warning for him or her? Why was the general plotting an attack whilst looking at a world map? Why is the actress playing Azure taking acting inspiration from Helena Bonham-Carter?

I have many questions.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 09/11/2021 15:39

I think generally the writing has been dire (preachy etc) since Chibnall took over and I absolutely loathe the characterisation of the Doctor by JW.

However - I watched episode 2 of the latest series and it actually felt like a proper Doctor Who episode (for the first time since Peter Capaldi).

SoupDragon · 09/11/2021 15:39

Ruth, the Other doctor, from a few series ago was better. Strong and capable.

EdmontinaDancesWithOphelia · 09/11/2021 15:42

This lack of a thriving thread is very telling!

In truth I think JW is probably doing her best, and this six part story ought to be intriguing (I adore a big story-arc) but Pt 2 was too fractured to be enthralling. And I still just don’t believe any of this current iteration - it’s all too uneven and too superficial.

Ridiculous how shows like Misfits and The Nevers are doing Dr Who better than the original these days.

If I hadn’t already invested half a century, there’s no way I’d be sticking with this.

2boysDad · 09/11/2021 15:42

"Ruth, the Other doctor, from a few series ago was better. Strong and capable."

yes, I remember watching that thinking THAT is how you play the doctor. JW came across as scrappy doo compared to her.

QueenOfPeace0 · 09/11/2021 15:49

I miss old!Who. We're currently rewatching Matt Smith and Karen Gillan and it's got a bit of everything; action, comedy, character arcs.

Everything since Chris Chibnall took over seems too preachy and 'message'-y. Maybe I don't want a moral/ethical life lesson, maybe I just want 50 minutes of silly joy?

ParishSpinster · 09/11/2021 15:53

I'm actually enjoying JW but I agree that Ruth was perfect as The Doctor. We should have her back!

I am also enjoying this series so far. Favourite bit is possibly John Bishop running whilst wielding a wok.

Am intrigued enough to keep watching.

Perroquet · 09/11/2021 16:08

Ah just realised there is a new DW thread! I posted this in the other thread, copying it here:

The second episode was better. The new monsters Azure and Swarm have not disappointed me. I still wanted to find out more about the Claire woman and weeping angels, as well as Diane being compelled to enter a house by Azure though! Also did anyone think there could be some potential romance between Yaz and Vinder? Their first interaction seemed to drop some hints in that direction.
