Coincidentally before it was announced I had been rewatching it so I’m sort of already refreshed - though last seasons are not great and I skipped a lot. Especially didn’t like the finale. Overall though an interesting show to watch and I’ll be watching this. Though I did really like the Florida setting and thought they used it well in show so will be interesting to see it in a new location.

I totally skipped the final season as it had all got a bit too crap. But will give the new a try.

I was hoping they'd done a 'Debs' death was just a dream' like Bobby Ewing stepping out of the shower, but no, apparently she appears as an 'internalised' character, ie imaginary.

I hated that Deb was killed. The whole last season was dreadful and yet somewhere around the middle (eg John Lithgow season) it was just such good TV.

I imagine Deb will appear like his dead step dad did throughout. Though in real life the actors who played Deb and Dexter are divorced so it’s good they can still work together as I expected her not to be in it.

And yes her death was so badly done. A main character dying in the background out of scene never really works.

I stopped watching it before the end, because it just got really rubbish, but the early seasons were great. I'm looking forward to the reboot.

It was a shame about Debra, but I seem to remember reading gossip mags at the time which said that the relationship between Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter had got so toxic that she begged for her character to be killed off so she could move on. Maybe the passing of time has made things better?

I remember reading that Michael C.Hall allegedly had an affair with Julia Stiles who was in the fifth season and that’s why him and J.C separated in 2010, not long after filming of that series ended.

I called my dog Dexter too ( Liked the name - Not after the show!) my surname is Morgan too- at the vet he is registered ' Dexter Morgan'🤣🤣

I’m not sure about this but I’ll give it a go. The first seasons of Dexter were fantastic. I especially enjoyed the John Lithgow and Jimmy Smitts season. I also LOVED Deb until she found out Dexter was a serial killer, then it was all downhill really. The last season was terrible.

As I’m catching up (cannot remember a thing about it so it seems fresh) I’m struck though by the bullying and verbal abuse Dexter is getting from Doakes, sexual harassment from Lieutenant LaGuerta and that pervy Matsuko, It didn’t even occur to me when I first watched it (except Matsuko I do recall him being slimy)

Agreed - may skip that one, some series though seem to lose their spark and black humour towards the end and go dark and depressing, Sopranos was the same
