I love the theories! They really could bring him back if they wanted to.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/01/2022 19:57

@Pinkbonbon

I don't think harrison has a dark passenger though. He was just a teenager who was angry and hurting. Probably needs therapy but not a killer.

I did wonder if they were implying that the police chiefs daughter was pregnant with his child though. With the wording on the voice-over when he was passing outside her house.

Also, just a thought but, thet could easily do a second season where they flashback to show dexter putting on a bullet proof vest at the police station. Think about it, he has to convincingly fake his own death, otherwise the police will never stop looking for him. He'd be all over the news and found in a week. And the blood...hmm...could he have got that from the butchers place they were showing (where the guy was chopping up deer outside) ?

Omg

That a possibility

And she lets him go due to kurts killing her friend

Pinkbonbon · 11/01/2022 20:53

Yeah I totally thought the twist would be that she would let him go at the end but then he killed the other cop so no way she would now I don't think. Maybe he will escape and be presumed dead and her department will insist she drops it but her and angel will continue to pursue it in their free time? Then the next series could be set a few years later following that. And the daughter would have harrisons kid.

I think they said this was gonna be a one off, stand alone series though didn't they? Unless that's to blindside us.

Wouldnt it be great if they started dropping in a teaser for season two and you see the camera slowly pan over the blood in the snow as some music rises to a crescendo and...there's nothing there and the police woman goes 'the body's gone' then cue lots of quick one second cut scenes, like with Angel going 'you killed laguerta', the police woman going 'I have to stop him', and dexter finishing the with 'my dark passenger has come back with a vengeance...and he needs feeding'. Cue clip of a bloody knife.

Ok I'm having too much fun I'll stop xD

BaconAndAvocado · 12/01/2022 07:45

Pinkbonbon you're good 😂

MeredithMae · 12/01/2022 11:21

Wow these are cracking theories! There was a LOT of blood though for a bullet proof vest. And Angela wouldn't have left him while she was waiting for back up.

I'm saying that cos I want it to end as it felt like a fitting finale, finally!

GruffaloSolja · 12/01/2022 13:19

Sorry but Dexter is dead, dead as can be. His execution by Harrison is his past both literally and metaphorically catching up with him. I like how it's been left ambiguous as to whether or not Harrison has his own dark passenger. He certainly came across as having more empathy and emotional range than Dexter. But then again the bar there was set pretty low. I think Dexter knew the game was up. In reality he'd been living on borrowed time from the moment he killed Matt. It was sloppy and unplanned. He only got away with it for as long as he did because he lived in such a crime free back water. I like how this series gave us more of an idea of how unhinged Dexter looked to the casual observer for example when he had an argument with himself in his truck. Which showed how the boundaries between his two worlds were crumbling. People were starting. I think Dexter picked Angela because subconsciously she reminded him of Debs. We do finally see Dexter for the monster he was. In the final episode He would most certainly have stabbed Angela to get away if Logan hadn't burst through the door. Then he killed Logan who had been nothing but kind and friendly. So did Harrison execute Dexter because he fitted the code. He shot him through heart, similar to Dexter stabbing his victims through the heart. Plus even if Dexter had got away, this time there would be nowhere to hide. He wouldn't be able to reinvent himself. People would know who he was and what he'd done. Even if they couldn't prove he was the Bay Harbor Butcher. He'd a 100%be going away for life the murder of Logan and possibly the murder of Matt Caldwell.

Part of me wonders if Harrison killed Hannah. Cancer was a bit vague.

🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀
Cocolapew · 12/01/2022 21:22

Omg Shock
I don't think it could have ended any other way.
Dexter definitely seemed more unhinged in this setting.
I thought it was a bit sad though Blush

Orpheline · 12/01/2022 21:37

They should leave it alone. Shouldn't have bothered with this attempt at resurrecting the show. I'll watch the original for the 3rd time.

Pinkbonbon · 12/01/2022 22:17

Yeah they shouldn't have brought it back if they were going to end it like that. I'm OK with dexter dying but not in the way he did.

But if that is it then I don't get the visual nods. Things like we were all expecting the cop to shoot dexter at the last minute because of the camera work. Then the nod to harrison getting that girl pregnant by the word choice of the voice over. Plus, angel being on his way. It feels messy, like they hinted at loose ends that still needed tying up.

Though that might be the directors style considering how the molly death went. Leaving us wondering about things.

BitcherOfBlakiven · 12/01/2022 22:27

I thought that Harrison found Dexters letter and killed Hannah in a rage, rather than her dying of cancer. But they stuck with the cancer death.

Voice0fReason · 12/01/2022 22:28

I enjoyed this series. Quite different from the original.
I think Dexter is dead, I was only disappointed that Harrison was sent away in the end. I thought he would stay with Audrey.

GreenClock · 13/01/2022 00:36

The options are there for another season if the powers-that-be want one.

Assuming Dexter is dead, is the Harrison actor good enough to be the main guy, with Dexter as the ghost? Definitely! He was a real breakout star I think.

I won’t miss the Iron Lake setting if the story moves to another state. What a gloomy place.

I didn’t enjoy the supporting cast (Angela, Audrey, Coach) as much as I did when it was set in Miami because there was so little humour and lightness in them. They felt a bit relentless. I enjoyed the Christmas episode because some of the show’s occasional silliness was present again.

Kurt was excellent. Dexter has handled some superb wronguns over the years.

I wish Batista had arrived in Iron Lake and met Dexter. I have a feeling that the Batista actor was engaged elsewhere or that covid got in the way, because it all seemed a bit cobbled-together.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/01/2022 09:26

I seemed to miss the hint that Audrey was poss preg

Me too but I thought it was a bit random when they showed them in bed together, maybe it was implied then.

Yeah I missed this too 🤦🏻‍♀️
GrandTheftWalrus · 14/01/2022 19:04

@GrandTheftWalrus

Im wondering if its gonna set it up for Harrison killing dexter and then a spin off with Harrison.
Quoting myself but I said this on 22nd November. I never get anything right!
BaconAndAvocado · 14/01/2022 19:43

A spin off with Harrison would be fantastic!

MimiDaisy11 · 15/01/2022 11:29

I was disappointed in the ending. I wanted Dexter to get caught and have a scene with Batista. It just seemed too easy for him to go like that.

MimiDaisy11 · 15/01/2022 11:35

No offence but I find the theories of bulletproof vests and fake blood silly. He has time to rig that but he doesn’t have time to clean the cop’s blood off his face? I don’t believe they’ll do another series and if they did something like to revive him it would be so silly.

But, he had to get Harrison to turn on him so left the blood on his face on purpose Grin I do agree it's over but I'm so disappointed, I'm happy to indulge in theories.

Blardy hell, YES! That could totally be feasible. Would make a great S3 "Young Blood" or similar.
thisplaceisapigsty · 25/01/2022 17:18

I've just watched the whole lot in a few days and really enjoyed it. I was so sad for Harrison at the end though, because he was happy at Iron Lake for the first time (maybe wouldn't last long but still...) and felt he belonged. I'm also not convinced as some pp have said that he had a real dark passenger as he was quite quick to cheer up and recover, plus he just really needed his Dad. That was sad as I wanted him to have 'normal' Dexter for a bit longer. The whole thing about Harry's code was depressing and witnessing Kurt being chopped up and then killing his own father was really extra trauma he didn't need. I agree that Harrison was the big star in this.

SpookyMargot · 25/01/2022 19:08

I would totally watch a spin off with Batista. Great character, sadly underused in this final season.
