Anyone watching? I love this series and fancy Perez Grin He seems to have some extra timber on him.. I don’t like him in a suit, much prefer a fishermans knitted jumper on him..

Where were we left when the last series ended? Did he get together with someone? Someone who seemed to have shady motives? I can’t remember!

OP posts:
Rhannion · 04/11/2021 12:37

I think drugs will be important in the plot line.

Rhannion · 04/11/2021 12:41

As in smuggling drugs into Shetland and selling them via that catering van that the chef woman has. Shades of ice cream vans in Glasgow being used for drug dealing.

ChoccyJules · 04/11/2021 13:01

Yes, I think they are strongly hinting that war dad was traumatised rather than responsible for anything bad. He seems to be walking away into the darkness at the end.

Also I agree, large plot arrow pointing at Perez not saying Tosh should follow up the missing teen!

Selkiesarereal · 04/11/2021 13:25

I also thought that it was Creggan who killed his son.

No idea how it all fits together yet but hopefully it will start to make sense soon!

IntemperateSpirits · 04/11/2021 13:35

The problem there was that once we'd heard the words CAKE FRIDGE we all stopped paying any attention to the episode and started thinking about randomly finding cake in fridges on the side of the road - cake! Just there! On the side of the road! Can you imagine? Cake!! In a fridge!!!! And so I have no idea who shot the Creggan boy.

CaptainThe95thRifles · 04/11/2021 13:55

Cake fridge is serious life goals. Why don't they exist down here?!

Shooty PTSD dad is clearly a nice bloke who just looks dodgy and dangerous - he's only making custom bullets to shoot coconuts for charity at the next village fete*. Overly friendly, creepy nurse, on the other hand, is definitely a serial killer, even if she's not the murderer we're looking for right now. That's how Shetland works Grin

*Insert appropriate Shetland vernacular for the concept of a village fete!

Etinoxaurus · 04/11/2021 15:13

I can only find them on Facebook but there's a Dutch Bakery on Lismore with an honesty box...
In a phone box.
Refrigeration is really not needed in the Isles!

Maireas · 04/11/2021 16:11

Too true about the cake fridge.
Also creepy nurse.
Also good call about Carrie selling drugs from her catering van.
That drug dealer was a good runner though. Maybe he was on speed.
Sandy bounced back well. Maybe he visits the cake fridge a lot.

Maireas · 04/11/2021 16:12

I thought the refrigeration wasn't necessary, but maybe just a way to protect the cakes. I would assume as well that a fridge might be milder than outside.

CaptainThe95thRifles · 04/11/2021 16:42

Maybe the cake fridge is secretly a speed-cake fridge? Jimmy's dad will be bouncing off the walls tonight Grin

Not sure honesty boxes and recreational drugs are natural bedfellows though.

IntemperateSpirits · 04/11/2021 17:13

I've remembered I don't trust the chef. Nor the doctor who's wife was shagging her boss. And the businessman who is bankrolling the MP is too well-known an actor to be a bit part.

They were before the cake fridge though Grin After that I was just thinking about the logistics. You'd need the electric for light so people could see the cakes 24/7 but you really just need a glass cabinet unless you've got cream cakes.

Maireas · 04/11/2021 18:03

I don't trust the doctor either.
Lots of people with a motive.
No updates on the screaming nun.

CAKE FRIDGE!!!

UglyModernWindows · 04/11/2021 20:06

This thread has taken a funny turn Grin I didn't even notice the fridge wouldn't have been plugged in!

I'm the original OP (wetpants) who started this thread. I had to delay watching ep2 for several days and then ended up changing my username too. Not that it matters, just thought to mention it and you lot are much wittier anyway Grin

Thanks for those who explained how the current series relates to the older ones. I remember S4 much better than S5. Was it S5 where Tosh and Perez visited Norway?

diddl · 04/11/2021 20:37

It was set up to look as if the Dad shot his son wasn't it?

Didn't notice if any of the vigilantes had guns.

I find Donna quite creepy.

Would she really be allowed to return to where she wanted?

And I'm not sure about the nurse either.

I guess she has to just think of her patient, but when she was complaining to Jimmy about the graffiti I think I was hoping he'd tell her that he understood the feelings of the locals & he had other things to look onto.

Zipndooda · 04/11/2021 21:30

There really is a cake fridge with honesty box where they said they were, (Aith), but that wasn’t it as that scene was filmed elsewhere.

In real life, it’s next to a rather lovely cafe. Just google cake fridge, aith and you will find it!

IntemperateSpirits · 04/11/2021 21:38

Cake fridge was trending on Twitter last night Grin

Apparently it’s the cake fridge in Heylor at Ronas Voe that appeared in the episode. I didn’t know there was one there.

I do confess to frequenting the Hoswick cake fridge although have been known to visit the Aith one when I’m traversing from Bixter to Brae.

Zipndooda · 04/11/2021 22:03

Ah, I was wondering whether it was just a prop for the real one.

Must check it out the next time I’m in that area.

Sunflowers765 · 04/11/2021 22:25

Why have I never heard of a cake fridge before?? There should be cake fridges everywhere!!

wizzler · 04/11/2021 22:37

Now I know about cake fridges I'm even more determined to go to Shetland.
We could have a cake fridge trail with a little notebook, and tick them off as we found them

AndAllOurYesterdays · 04/11/2021 22:43

@OllyBJolly is it good cake?

Have you tried the one in St Olaf St? It's my favourite. I don't care for the cake in Hoswick (too sweet) but the Tiffin is great.
