Anyone watching? I love this series and fancy Perez Grin He seems to have some extra timber on him.. I don’t like him in a suit, much prefer a fishermans knitted jumper on him..

Where were we left when the last series ended? Did he get together with someone? Someone who seemed to have shady motives? I can’t remember!

OP posts:

@FluffyBooBoo

But...the DVD of series 1-5 comes from ITV

The series is made by ITV for the BBC. I assume it's something to do with that.

Ah, that makes sense then and I see a pp is watching on BritBox, another joint BBC and ITV venture.

  1. How many backyard bullet factories are there on Shetland and why is no one apparently that concerned? Is it an EU designated centre of excellence for hired killers, or something?
  1. I would not leave Sandy to watch a boiling kettle, let alone a deeply traumatised man with PTSD who's just found out he murdered his only son. Come on, Jimmy. Is there no one else? One of the non-speaking policeman? A cleaner?
ButtonSister · 17/11/2021 07:27

This is the first series I have watched. I've read most of the books but stopped because Perez is such a dour, miserable sod with no sense of humour. And spends all the books mourning a)his ex wife and the children he'll no longer have, b)his dead wife to be, and c)his inability to maintain close relationships because of a) and b).

I agree with a PP - he often looks like he's smirking.

In the books Sandy starts off as clueless but matures over time, which clearly isn't the case here.

I'm finding the plot very confusing too.

Apparently that's what the cake fridge is for. A cream scone means you want a hit on the person who crashed into your car in Aberdeen.

TheRustler - 1. How many backyard bullet factories are there on Shetland and why is no one apparently that concerned? Is it an EU designated centre of excellence for hired killers, or something?

Well of course the bullets may have been brought in from the mainland

But you are correct about the contract killers - there was a previous series with the Glasgow mob, witness protection and a hired killer sent to Shetland

GinnyMackesy · 17/11/2021 11:52

Do not mess with the owner of a Shetland Cake Fridge.

SirSamuelVimes · 17/11/2021 11:55

@GinnyMackesy

Do not mess with the owner of a Shetland Cake Fridge.
That's a life lesson for us all.
muldersspeedos · 17/11/2021 12:11

Will tonight bring any clarity I wonder?

SirSamuelVimes · 17/11/2021 12:31

I'm hoping tonight's episode will throw some light on what happened on the boat a bit more - with the police discovering the "silence is golden" note that surely needs to have more digging now.

Also want to see Sandy get sacked/ put on leave (whatever happens to naughty coppers).

absolutelynotfabulous · 17/11/2021 12:48

I have a soft spot for Sandy. I've been watching previous series and find him quite hot. Must be the accent. Blush

Are you sure you're quite well?! Grin
IntermittentParps · 17/11/2021 13:42

I admit to a little tiny mini-crush on Sandy too Grin
Something about his tiny waist with the belt...

TheRustler · 17/11/2021 13:43

I don't know if I've just watched too much Shetland over the years but I could have sworn Sandy is one of the native speakers on the Duolingo Gaelic app.

Given that he's not a native Gaelic speaker, it's unlikely.

Gaelic isn't spoken in Shetland.

OllyBJolly · 17/11/2021 14:17

I think the actor who plays Sandy is the only Shetlander in the main cast?

FluffyBooBoo · 17/11/2021 14:27

Correct
SirSamuelVimes · 17/11/2021 14:49

I do enjoy Sandy's accent. Just wish the things he said in it were less stupid!

Belindabelle · 17/11/2021 16:30

Well I am disappointed in you all!

Just watched the first 4 episodes over the past few days and as I am a tad confused came to this thread to find out what the hell is going on.
Only to find that you lot don’t really know either.

Oh well let’s just see what tonight brings.

Maireas · 17/11/2021 17:43

Yes, he played Perez in the radio version. He's the only Shetlander!
muldersspeedos · 17/11/2021 18:07

From the TV guide for the episode tonight:

Having reached a dead end, Perez returns to the incident board in a fresh search for clues and soon finds that Carrie McAndrew, the chef on Eamon's boat, was in debt to Niven Guthrie. Fiona Bedford also reveals that her husband is tracking her whereabouts, so must have known about her affair with Galbraith. Armed with this information, Perez delves deeper into Bedford's movements on the day of Galbraith's death. Meanwhile, as Donna grows weaker she asks Duncan for one last favour, a request that leaves him horrified

😱😱😱

airforsharon · 17/11/2021 20:04

I said to DD at the end of last week's episode, Duncan is really going to regret promising to look after Donna. The way she turned on Kate gave me the heebie jeebies. Wondering if the 'favour' involves something unpleasant happening to her.

I like Tosh hugely, she has her head screwed on, and her 'wtf?!' face is a thing of joy

Yes I think he’s promised to bunp her off when the time comes. I don’t understand why he seems to feel such an obligation to her. She seems borderline evil.
Rhannion · 17/11/2021 21:51

Duncan is a weak fool , why did he not open that letter? I bet she has him stitched up for her death.

Rhannion · 17/11/2021 21:52

So Alex probably murdered Marianne, I wonder if it was Alex’s wife who murdered him..
