Last thread here.

Well, we care, because we're picky like that!

The Strictly chatter continues...

I loved series 5, I think it's still one of the best ones.

Danny Mac & Oti's American Smooth makes me catch my breath and brings tears to my eyes every single time.

Me too. Also their samba. And their showdance.

Ringer Danny Mac may be, but I have to say I don't rewatch Bill Bailey's or Stacey Dooley's dances ( talking of non ringers).

Me too. Oti is so fearless, Danny isn't a huge muscle bound bloke and Oti isn't a tiny Janette sized scrap of a thing but she has total confidence that he can and will catch her. There is no fudge, no halfway house, no way to entertain a moment's doubt with that move! She is fierce!
SunshineCake1 · 15/10/2021 13:15

@GreenClock

In terms of life changing, I saw that with Louise Redknapp too.
Though sadly it doesn't seem it was totally positive given her oft voiced regrets about leaving her marriage.
Lampzade · 15/10/2021 13:17

@Claymorekick

I agree about Alesha - total ringer but still one of my faves (but my all time fave of Danny Mac was a total ringer Grin). But, i think Alesha's transformation over the series from a broken and publically betrayed woman to someone full of joy from dance was heartwarming and I think went a long way to her victory!
Absolutely this I remember Alesha saying that she was depressed before she got the Strictly gig. Her husband at the time had cheated on her with her friend and her record label had dropped her. Strictly transformed her life and opened up endless opportunities for her. It just showed that one should never give up Her partnership with Matthew was one of my favourite ( my favourite still Ramps and Karen)

Have just watched that dance again. Absolutely beautiful
NCTDN · 15/10/2021 14:58

My all time favourite dance is still the show dance by Tom Chambers many years ago. I know he went on to perform in the west end - had he had dance training?

He was one of the ringiest of ringers and I really disliked him. Not just because of that but he was so so smug! And I was cross because in, I think, the quarter finals - the scores were such that he had to be the one to leave... and the producers basically changed the rules to keep him in. I was really angry!!
EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/10/2021 15:54

I LOATHED Tom Chambers the Smuggy Smugface Angry

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/10/2021 15:57

Yes SanFran and then the video of him dancing to a professional level prior to Strictly emerged and, at the time, all the carry on over his honeymoon

Fenelladepompom · 15/10/2021 15:57

It was more the fact that people had been paying to vote for him when he was unsaveable. They would have had to refund them all.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 15/10/2021 16:09

I've had to go back and rewatch the Oti and Danny dances, because my dislike for him was so intense it couldn't even be counteracted by my love for Oti.

I can see they're objectively beautiful dances, but yep, I can't warm to them because I can't warm to him. He's just too...slick. Like an oil spill.

2Two · 15/10/2021 16:15

I struggle to believe AJ has no experience of dance outside Strictly. I wonder whether she was taking lessons in the run-up?

I can’t agree with you, Greebols, but that did make me laugh, slick like an oil spill Grin

You're quite right... but I was so happy he couldn't be saved and then I was pooed on from a great height.

Agree, Eine, about the hysteria of his wedding etc. That was also the year of the big Tom/Austin bromance which, I understand from media interviews with Mr Smug was a pack of lies too and they didn't really like each other a whole lot.

I will admit, I don't get quite as involved as I did back then and don't always watch the live show (so I can just watch the dances and the scores on a Sunday - cuts the programme down to about 45 minutes!!)

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/10/2021 17:06

I am also less "caught up in it" I feel that the earlier years were a lot more genuine in terms of what viewers saw.

If celeb and dancer weren't getting on for example it wasn't covered over or lied about. It was very well known that

Sarah and Brendan
Georgina and James
and Anton and Patsy hated each other

When Katya and Seannn kissed it was treated like some sort of political sex scandal compared to earlier seasons were infidelities were joked about and positively encouraged, (Natasha and Brendan, Flavia and Matt)

Strictly has definitely got more strict at least with its own production it terms of serving a more sanitised front.

Bobholll · 15/10/2021 18:41

To be fair, the BBC can’t really have a show that very openly breaks up marriages & causes a great deal of pain to the ones being cheated on. I mean, it happens still but Sean & Katya were the first ones caught on camera with no deny-ability.

MissMarpleRocks · 15/10/2021 18:54

Not going to lie but I went off Katya a bit then. I think her choreography is inspired - who can forget Ed Balls but no not a nice thing to do.

Fenelladepompom · 15/10/2021 18:59

Is it just me or do all Rhys's dances look the same?

iklboo · 15/10/2021 19:16

Is it just me or do all Rhys's dances look the same?

They kind of do. Frantic, uncontrolled, showy offy, play it to the back row rather than style & finesse.

iklboo · 15/10/2021 19:18

S'okay Greebo - one less on the rota to share Danny Grin

herecomesthsun · 15/10/2021 19:29

Rhys' waltz wasn't frenetic though.

I think in a less good year, he would look stunning; he still could be a contender to win. He has I think done some street dance but isn't really a ringer, there could be a journey there.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 15/10/2021 19:35

Ooh! Was that the first mention of the J word?!
