Last thread here.

Well, we care, because we're picky like that!

The Strictly chatter continues...

Aww. I would have thought he would have made it to Halloween had he not become poorly. Misses out on the 15k bonus, poor sod. We did speculate about his heart condition on here back in August. Feel for Diane as well, maybe she will get a ringer next year.
Shame we cannot bring back Nina.

I'd support a campaign to bring her back but if someone did it would be Katie owing my luck.
EvilRingahBitch · 13/10/2021 19:35

I think that the reason Craig's salary looks a bit low is that he is the show runner for the tour and there's obviously a really complicated licensing deal between him and the BBC behind the scenes. The tour sells out every arena in the UK. Costs must be high so it's not exactly money for old rope but still I reckon Craig must get a good wedge for it, on top of his tour appearance fees.

Likewise the relatively modest hourly rate that the dancers get is negotiated on the back of the huge increase in earning power from the SCD tour, their own tours, increased teaching fees, cruises, hotels..... the BBC is under pressure not to over-pay (while not being exploitative) if they can leverage the other benefits of prime time exposure.

When someone drops out, they usually just have one less couple in the final don't they?

Yes, I think so. When Will Young pulled out in 2016, they had Louise, Ore and Danny in the final.
EvilRingahBitch · 13/10/2021 20:18

Yes they always plan for a four person final specifically because it allows them space to have one drop out. Funnily enough I saw someone on Digital Spy this morning speculating on who would be "fighting for the fourth place in the final" (he was assuming that John, Rose and AJ were nailed on) and I thought "bit premature to assume that there'll actually be four people in that final".

Even in a non-Covid year they lose a contestant more often than not, but I'm disappointed for Robert.

EvilRingahBitch · 13/10/2021 20:25

..When I say "they always plan for a four person final", what I mean is that they have planned for a four person final ever since 2006/2007 when they ended up with two person finals two years on the trot.

Quite apart from the fact that two person finals require even more filler than usual and threaten even the fittest contestants with collapse, can you imagine the stress on the show runners in the last week knowing that you're one sprained ankle away from having a final with only one contestant? (Yes I assume they'd bring back the losing semi-finalist in that situation but it would be a PR nightmare).

@SoupDragon

I'm not convinced Bruno deserved his salary,
I agree - I'd pay to keep Bruno off the TV. No wonder he and Len opted to stick with DWTS though given the huge salary differences with the Americans paying such a lot more!
Aquarius1234 · 13/10/2021 20:46

Omg I go out all day and this happens! Gutted all my favs leaving.

SmellyOldOwls · 13/10/2021 20:55

@dapsnotplimsolls

I do miss Darcy though (yes?), I loved how she always explained about having beautiful lines and finishing arms and stuff

... yes, I also miss Darcy for that reason, and for her elegance and class, and lack of bitchiness. AND I still miss Arlene.
Arlene is rumoured to be joint Dancing in Ice as a judge.

...that’s interesting, I’ve never watched the ice dancing thing, may be worth giving it a whirl...

I don't see why Shirley got to be ahead Judge either unless it's just because she's been in the business many years. I would have expected Craig to get the gig if I'd thought about it more.

... wasn’t it rumoured that Craig wasn’t made head judge because he didn’t want the gig?

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 13/10/2021 21:33

Gutted about Robert too, was really looking forward to seeing him in a decent costume this weekend

DaisyNGO · 13/10/2021 21:36

@xsquared

Oh I was looking forward to seeing more of Robert.
Me too Love the legs Great dancing too, lol
Bluffinwithmymuffin · 13/10/2021 21:44

I saw that clip for the first time a couple of days ago... very impressive!

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 13/10/2021 21:55

Poor Robert. Gutted for him. Such a shame.

I loved seeing that clip again @DaisyNGO, thank you! I remember cheering at the telly when he did it, I thought he was brilliant!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 14/10/2021 08:18

what a shame about Robert

CaveMum · 14/10/2021 09:20

Not looking forward to telling DD that Robert has gone - Diane is one of her favourites (purely based on her hair colour!).

Just on the Head Judge stuff, my opinion, FWIW, is that it has to be a ballroom/latin expert. You can’t have someone like Craig, who is an excellent choreographer and dancer in his own right, who hasn’t studied and danced the styles to the highest level as HJ.

I’m sure I’ve said this many times before over the years, but Lorna Lee was auditioned as a potential HJ before Len got the gig. Now she would have been interesting! She’s a former Champion herself and a top class coach (think she coached Jane’s and Ola Jordan), but she also has a formidable “no nonsense” reputation!

A few years ago she and her husband did a reality tv show called “Bad Teen To Ballroom Queen” where they took on a group of problem teenagers and taught them to dance. It’s worth watching if you can find it anywhere.

ppeatfruit · 14/10/2021 10:10

Poor Robert I enjoyed him too.

Change of subject, does anyone prefer Janette To Rylan as the presenter of ITT? (actually thinking about it she's better than Zoe too, although I miss her) IMO Janette is soo much better and IN the dances. I have a girl crush on her, her fashion sense is interesting but I still luffs her Grin

Luba's choreography corner was not very good. Hmm

Fenelladepompom · 14/10/2021 13:11

Luba's CC told me nothing. Did she not want to upset her fellow pros? Waste of time.

Fenelladepompom · 14/10/2021 13:12

Rylan so much better than Jeanette imo. He appears m6ch more interested in the people he's talking to. And he can say CRAIG correctly.

BasiliskStare · 14/10/2021 14:00

If Shirley's salary is correct - well I may have to come over Bufton Tufton re BBC licence paying for this - not sure I would not watch if she were not on it - but half a million quid pa - that seems over the top - what else is she going to do ? I am not sure they could not find another judge . I am not sure she is paid £500k for strictly - I have read elsewhere £250 & other jobs take her earnings up

Pinkycheeks · 14/10/2021 14:41

I much prefer Janette ( enthusiastic/ sparkly/ knowledgeable) to Rylan on ITT.. he doesn’t seem that interested to me and doesn’t have any connection to the show or dancing. Also think the ITT studio needs more atmosphere to make up for no audience. I love Strictly Glitterball

mydogisthebest · 14/10/2021 15:24

I prefer Rylan. Still trying to warm to Jeanette but hopefully she will grow on me. I preferred Zoe.

334bu · 14/10/2021 15:27

Me too. Really impressed by her.
