Last thread here.

Well, we care, because we're picky like that!

The Strictly chatter continues...

Agree ^

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/10/2021 20:01

It's part of her attention-seeking bonfire.

She and Most are both "look at meeeee!".

All that rubbish about "I hear the music and I just gotta get on my feet" from Motsi. Both of them are a PITA.

mydogisthebest · 12/10/2021 20:05

@bonfireheart

This is really pedantic but it really annoys me when the couples are dancing and Shirley stands up and hovers over her desk to stare at their feet, her deathly shadow is really distracting and it's not like her critique then is of much substance, and the other judges seem to be able to do it sitting down, honestly think she does it for attention.
I think Shirley is a big attention seeker and it annoys me (a lot).
bonfireheart · 12/10/2021 20:07

Tbh over the last three or four years I've stopped watching the show many because of the judges antics. After the show finishes on a Saturday I read Heidi's blog in the Guardian. Then I go on YouTube where the show posts the dances including opening number - with no bits from the judges or Tess or Claudia, none of that, just just dances. I then come on this forum. I found that I enjoy Strictly more this way haha.

KitchenDancefloor · 12/10/2021 23:22

Oh bloody hell, I've just realised who Shirley reminds me of. She's just like my boss. All smiles and encouragement when she's getting her own way but full of withering put downs and condescending looks when she takes against someone/an idea/is generally having a crap day.

All of the contestants, professionals and crew have my deepest sympathy.

RIP my enjoyment of Strictly.

I suspect the Katja is taking a calculated gamble and getting the tough dances out of the way while the wheat is still be separated from the chaff so later in the contest Adam will have simpler/more crowd pleasing dances in weeks when others are doing rumbas/sambas and he will look better by comparison.

But, as people have pointed out, these days it's easy enough to avoid the difficult dances - last year only one male dancer did it.

EvilRingahBitch · 12/10/2021 23:43

Yes but last year the series was shorter and you could skip more dances. This year you've got to do more of them and Katya does seem to be worried about Adam's classic ballroom, so she's probably happy to take a bet on a rumba which is at least memorable and has the opportunity for eye catching moves rather than a waltz which might be both poorly scored and forgettable. Adam has many plus points but the ability to conjure up romance like Kai/AJ or Rose/Gio did is probably not amongst them. If you're going to fail at that it's probably tactically better to do it stripped to the waist and painted blue rather than in white tie and tails.

UnRavellingFast · 13/10/2021 00:28

I liked Katya's comment on one of the ITTs that dancing with Adam is like dancing with a fridge!

I do miss Darcy though (yes?), I loved how she always explained about having beautiful lines and finishing arms and stuff

... yes, I also miss Darcy for that reason, and for her elegance and class, and lack of bitchiness. AND I still miss Arlene.

Arlene is rumoured to be joint Dancing in Ice as a judge.

I'm sure I've seen all of the judges stand up to see better on different occasions.
theliverpoolone · 13/10/2021 07:59

There's a lot of criticism of Shirley, but Len used to be really grumpy at times, and had people he'd be quite nasty to, he certainly wasn't always the jovial character people might think he was. I prefer Shirley to Len, even though her marking can be a bit inconsistent.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/10/2021 08:37

Perhaps they need to give Shirley a cushion to sit on, and boost her up a bit so she can see better!

Hahaha Schady Maybe it wasn't you but I do remember a fair few posters compaining about Darcey and Arlene!

Motsi has calmed down, somewhat, I loved her comment about her sister's partner's wig (sorry I forgot his name, cute guy !!) I like her she has a sense of humour. I haven't noticed SB's standing shadow. She is being kinder to the women this year, maybe has taken note of a few posters on here?? Or elsewhere. Grin

Bobholll · 13/10/2021 10:38

I like the judges now. I think it’s a nice balance. It’s a TV show, not a professional competition. I watch it for the dancing, I don’t care if it’s not perfect or the shaping is wrong or they missed a step. If it looked good & was entertaining, great. I like the silliness & the over enthusiasm. The costumes, the music. The whole show just lifts my mood. It’s a celebration of dancing & joy to me. Not something to be taken deadly seriously and hated cos the judges stood up too much or were inconsistent.. at the end of the day, the celebs that win are the popular ones that can move a bit. The judges have zero influence on popularity!

If you want accurate marking, go watch the professionals 😄

xsquared · 13/10/2021 11:09

They haven't announced the dances and songs for week 4 yet, which is strange as it usually comes out on Tuesday.

herecomesthsun · 13/10/2021 12:37

Just to say WH Smiths have some Strictly games reduced to £9 and £5

Ohhh I wonder if someone has gone for a change of music and/or style? As we only know a couple of tracks and styles for this Saturday we won't be able to tell.
Standrewsschool · 13/10/2021 15:55

salaries

Not sure how accurate this is, but it gives you a summary of both contestant and judges’s salaries. Can’t quite believe that Shirley is getting significantly more than Craig, who has been there from the start.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 13/10/2021 16:39

It seems wrong the judges get paid so much more than the dancers, when the dancers work so much harder!

I'm baffled by Craig not being paid more. To me it wouldn't be Strictly without him, the panel needs him to cut through the schmaltz.

SunshineCake1 · 13/10/2021 16:41

I don't see why Shirley got to be ahead Judge either unless it's just because she's been in the business many years. I would have expected Craig to get the gig if I'd thought about it more.

JacquelineCarlyle · 13/10/2021 17:15

I think those salaries seem fair actually and Shirley should get paid more if she's head judge. I'm not a fan, but she has the credentials for the show given her experience in the world of ballroom. Craig is a good judge but doesn't have those credentials - I thought both he and Bruno were choreographers by trade (& also dance, but nothing ballroom).

The professional dancers will top those wages up massively with their own tours and dance related other work, so their salaries seem fair to me also.

SoupDragon · 13/10/2021 17:20

I'm not convinced Bruno deserved his salary,

ChequerBoard · 13/10/2021 17:21

Would have thought in the spirit of equality that the BBC would have paid all the judges the same with a top up for the head judge.

Makes a nice change for the female judges to be paid more than the men for once though!

CaveMum · 13/10/2021 17:29

I was not a fan of Darcey. Yes she was a beautiful ballet dancer but she did not understand the fundamentals of ballroom/latin, which have a totally different way of moving the body, and at times gave incorrect advice.

Plus the wittering on about “imagine you’re wearing a beautiful necklace”!

SunshineCake1 · 13/10/2021 18:32

Oh dear. Poor Robert Sad.
