Last thread here.

Well, we care, because we're picky like that!

The Strictly chatter continues...

Oti and Kelvin's rumba, from only two years ago, was wonderful.

SoberSadie · 11/10/2021 17:55

@mydogisthebest

Also meant to say I am really loving Anton as a judge, so much better than Bruno.

Motsi is much better this year. She drove me mad last year with all her shouting and screeching and absolutely no sensible comments at all. This year she is calmer and is actually making good sensible comments and giving some good advice

Yes, I actually like all the judges this year. Think it's a good mix now.

I love a Rumba! I think Caroline Flack did a lovely one iirc.

Love John and Johannes, but I'm a sucker for the costumes and theirs have been great.

Claymorekick · 11/10/2021 18:09

@Runningupthecurtains

I loved the old format of two dances (could compare performance), content over theatricality

Yep. Bake Off don't go "it would be a bit dull if we made everyone do bread so Pru and Paul are going to compare some shortbread, a brioche loaf, two meat pies, some macaroons, a doughnut and a chicken stir fry (because baking is a bit old fashioned and tricky so we let one contestant do whatever they felt like).

This actually made me laugh out loud...and so very true!!
CaveMum · 11/10/2021 18:27

Grin @SchadenfreudePersonified, I had to keep checking Wikipedia to make sure I had put enough “k” and “v” in!

BasiliskStare · 11/10/2021 19:07

I think Motsi is better than last series but DS always says - bit dodgy when it is your sister - can you be completely fair ? ( sorry f that has been discussed before. ) I like the way Aj has calmed her voice down - she was a bit shouty for me but goodness she can dance. I Think J&J can dance - yes interesting to look at a slower dance for them both (J&J ) I think Sarah is giving it a good shot.

But ( and only my opinion ) I did think Bill Bailey and Oti did a great job of their couples choice - I do not like many of them ( couples' choices ) but theirs made me giggle.

StCharlotte · 11/10/2021 19:17

(Dame Celia Molestrangler, stalwart of the theatre, is a bit of a shortarse and inclined to fall over when twirled, so we . . . . ").

OMG you just described me to a T at my niece's wedding recently (without the Damehood). I was literally twirled down to the ground. I'm glad to say the charming young man I was dancing with was most chivalrous in hauling me back to my feet while bastard DH was pissing himself.

hesdeadyouknow · 11/10/2021 19:18

Just wondering why Rose did 2 latins in the first 2 weeks. I thought they were supposed to do one of each so all would be fair and dandy for the first vote. Apologies if you've already discussed this.

CaveMum · 11/10/2021 19:30

It did get mentioned in passing @hesdeadyouknow. The cynic in me thinks it might have been to help her out in learning the rhythms - Jive and Salsa both have steady rhythmic counts which will have been easier for her to count along to.

Runningupthecurtains · 11/10/2021 19:43

I guess the get out of jail card is jive is Latin while Salsa is a specialist dance so they didn't pick from the same category two weeks running. Couples have dodged either ballroom or Latin for a few weeks in the past but in this case I suspect it was because Rose would be more able to feel the Latin beat, use counting to keep in time etc.

I do miss Darcy though (yes?), I loved how she always explained about having beautiful lines and finishing arms and stuff

... yes, I also miss Darcy for that reason, and for her elegance and class, and lack of bitchiness. AND I still miss Arlene.

NCTDN · 11/10/2021 22:28

I too would love there to be just two dance styles so we could properly compare.
In regards to the dance genres, I think the pros choose which one each week.

OverByYer · 12/10/2021 06:39

Agree, the old format worked much better.

SoupDragon · 12/10/2021 07:55

Imagine watching the Bake Off where each contestant is shown baking the same thing one after another.

GrouchyKiwi · 12/10/2021 08:30

The different choreography, performance and personality quirks each couple brings to the dances are like the different flavours and styles of the same thing the bakers make in Bake Off, to stretch the analogy. They're all making biscuits, but different versions.

It wasn't boring when they used to do two different styles of dance in the first couple of weeks; it was easier to see who was doing well, and you learned the flavours of the dances more easily. IMO.

2Two · 12/10/2021 09:02

I agree re sticking to two dances. It was ridiculous Adam Peaty doing the rhumba so early and being the only one to do it - he was at a disadvantage before he started. He got a vote from me simply because I thought it would be so unfair if he went out simply because he wasn't doing an easier and more crowd-pleasing dance.

I suspect the Katja is taking a calculated gamble and getting the tough dances out of the way while the wheat is still be separated from the chaff so later in the contest Adam will have simpler/more crowd pleasing dances in weeks when others are doing rumbas/sambas and he will look better by comparison.
ppeatfruit · 12/10/2021 10:07

It would be interesting to find out who chooses the movies that are going to be featured.

I'm quite enjoying the generally bumptious Katya meeting her match in Adam, but I wouldn't have chosen to be a "blue person" (though, hell, she can dance) oh and the cgi in that was effin awful!

JacquelineCarlyle · 12/10/2021 12:37

Adam did look weirdly attractive as a blue person though - I love him but don't usually find him particularly attractive but he was very hot on Saturday night!

bonfireheart · 12/10/2021 18:30

Brendan Cole is on Dancing on Ice this year.

What Grouchy said ^

bonfireheart · 12/10/2021 18:44

This is really pedantic but it really annoys me when the couples are dancing and Shirley stands up and hovers over her desk to stare at their feet, her deathly shadow is really distracting and it's not like her critique then is of much substance, and the other judges seem to be able to do it sitting down, honestly think she does it for attention.
