Last thread here.

Well, we care, because we're picky like that!

The Strictly chatter continues...

@BalloonSlayer

I wonder if some contestants manage to negotiate their contract to include the clause "no stupid costumes will be worn," and some don't.

Someone anyone to Robert Webb in the green room: "Did your agent not know you can stipulate your type of costumes? Bummer, dude."

He said on twitter that he felt it was a little unfair that Greg got Bond while he got Kermit.
ChequerBoard · 10/10/2021 11:54

"People are being very unpleasant about Giovanna"

@Elderflower14 it seems to be the same poster with an axe to grind. Very unpleasant and not adding anything to the Strictly discussion IMO.

Runningupthecurtains · 10/10/2021 11:59

@Elderflower14
Katie isn't exactly getting an easy ride on this thread either. Not liking someone is fine, trying to article why is OK but having a pop at someone for no reason isn't generally tolerated on this thread (hence the poster who called Giovanna frumpy was told to leave it out).

SoupDragon · 10/10/2021 12:02

I actually think Robert managed to carry off the Kermit costume. His resigned face under the frog head was just perfect.

cricketmum84 · 10/10/2021 12:07

@iklboo

Checking in for later. Some twonk told me the spoiler but my lips are totally sealed on here.
The temptation to look on twitter is strong!!! Resisting the urge right now.
NCTDN · 10/10/2021 12:10

I absolutely agree with the pp- In a world where you can be anything, be kind.

ShirleyPhallus · 10/10/2021 12:20

If this was a pure dance competition then the winners would never actually win. A huge part of why people vote is because they like them personally. Ie, Bill Bailey was definitely not the best dancer. Pixie Lott wouldn’t have gone home so soon etc.

I think it’s fine to make comments based on opinions of celebs and their partners - ie “I really like him” or “I find her annoying”. Personal comments such a Giovanna being “frumpy” aren’t on and that poster was told that.

I hate how this “be kind” stuff has translated.

Anyway, back to the dancing!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/10/2021 12:25

I'm Half and Half on Be Kind

If we think a dance is shit, it should be said, AND Be Kind Ridiculously soft marking is an issue this year, Bring back totals of 12!

Separately, overly personal nasty remarks about anyone (except Shirley who makes enough of her own) are a bit poor taste.

SoupDragon · 10/10/2021 12:51

I think some of the comments about Katy are crossing the line, but that's just my personal feelings. I decided I would post far less and also try not to read the thread too much whilst the show is on as I found it was taking away from me just enjoying the dances.

Samcro · 10/10/2021 12:54

some times you can't warm to someone. they can be a brilliant dancer, but they leave you cold. I found that with some of the past dancers.
I can't warm to Tom/Tilley/Katy so I won't vote for them. thats life.

derxa · 10/10/2021 13:03

Still chortling at Hay and aliens

StCharlotte · 10/10/2021 13:06
That video I posted was of a top level Rumba routine which obviously we’re never going to see replicated on SCD, but even a basic Rumba moves and flows across the floor. This video is nothing but basic steps yet still moves far more than most of the SCD routines you’ll see.
This is b So beautiful.

I hate the rumbas on Strictly and I love J&J but I think I will be watching theirs from behind a cushion - I already feel a bit voyeuristic watching them sometimes Grin

(Is it just me or does anyone else think the rumba is like a very slow cha cha and/or vice versa?)

EsmaCannonball · 10/10/2021 13:12

Marian Keyes said on Twitter that Kai really doesn't seem like a Kai as he's from the 1950's. I agree, he's like a tough but decent cop from LA Confidential, or a bank robber from The Asphalt Jungle who's only robbing banks because he wants to buy back the family farm. He's more of a Burt or a Ray or an Edmund.

Runningupthecurtains · 10/10/2021 13:13

The Cha cha and rumba definitely share stylistic elements the straight legs etc.

SequinsandStiIettos · 10/10/2021 13:20

Can't believe Marian had the chance to do Strictly but turned it down. Even if you were out week two, surely you'd want to peek behind the curtain. I know Pash isn't there any more but she could have asked for Aljaz or a Xmas special. I know she has anxiety and guess I admire her for sticking to being a superfan from the sofa only but I'd be biting their hand off.

CastAColdEye · 10/10/2021 13:21

I'm really moved watching Johannes and John dance. It's totally joyous and uplifting.

EsmaCannonball · 10/10/2021 13:39

I suppose if you are a big fan of Strictly and a celebrity it might be nicer to hold onto the fantasy of doing the show rather than confront the reality. I can't remember if Marian herself has said that she'd be worried about the show's effect upon her mental health. I do like a Strictly superfan though. Dan's not the best but you can see the Strictly experience really matters to him. Ditto Clara last year.

SequinsandStiIettos · 10/10/2021 13:44

Me too. Love them and they deserve to be in the final. Jojo does outdance him though and Gio back in the day got criticised for doing the same.
It might be like Cassie in A Chorus Line though, where you cannot help the unconscious flourishes.
The only problem I had with POTC is that it was Riker's iconic routine so replicating it to a certain degree made me hanker after the "original", even though there is more paso in Jojo's.

SequinsandStiIettos · 10/10/2021 13:48

Well, therein lies the rub, in my head I'm Abby gliding across a dance floor doing gawjus Viennese but on the screen I'd be being dragged like the clichéd flat pack furniture. To be manhandled by Aljaz, though...

squashyhat · 10/10/2021 13:57

@Elderflower14 can you or Wilf answer my question upthread about why the signing for applause is what it is when clapping is a very visual signal whether you can hear or not? Genuine question.

Elderflower14 · 10/10/2021 14:11

I'm not sure. It's always been like that since Wilf has been born.

ShirleyPhallus · 10/10/2021 14:14
@Elderflower14 can you or Wilf answer my question upthread about why the signing for applause is what it is when clapping is a very visual signal whether you can hear or not? Genuine question.
I think the sign is a much clearer visual clue, people have a tendency to clap in their laps where it might not be seen

SanFranBear · 10/10/2021 14:22

James Jordan was amazing at the Rumba! It's such a hard dance to do well but somehow he always managed to get it just about right - if I remember, him & Ola used to showcase it, back when it was all fields round here. His one with Cheri Longhi was just beautiful!

Agree that it was pretty unfair for Adam to have it so early and, to a pp's point, I'm not sure how much input the Pros have around the choice? Otherwise, surely they'd all go for something simple in rhe first few weeks, which played to their Slebs strengths? Regardless, I can't see Adam being voted out yet - and I haven't been that bowled over by him yet but he looked great and didn't do a bad job.

I voted for Katie (as my sweepie pick apjough if she scrapes through this week, i think she'll be gone before the end of the month!), Rose as I thought her dance was beautiful and Ugo as I thought he was beautiful Blush. I think it's either Dan or Katie who will go 'later'...

SanFranBear · 10/10/2021 14:25

Here it is:

GrouchyKiwi · 10/10/2021 14:33

Cherie and James' rumba is the only one I've liked on SCD. It was beautiful and sexy in the right way.
