The Strictly chatter continues...

I haven’t warmed to Katie. I had never heard of her before Strictly and to me she’s come across as a bit annoying and grumpy. She may well be lovely but she’s not really showing that!

This is a genuine question which may have been asked already as I know there are some people on here who can sign. Why is the sign for clapping waving your hands above your head? Clapping is surely a universal gesture whether you can hear the sound it makes or not?

I'm just rewatching and glad you've asked this as I wondered why too.

My DH remarked that Rose isn't as well liked because of the lack of applause. 🤦🏼‍♀️

(I explained for the third time that she is deaf and everyone was signing the applause...I really do wonder sometimes!)

I'm not a signer but I assume that if you were in, say a theatre, you would only be able to see the front row clapping but with the waving hands above the head means you can see that everyone is 'clapping'.

I’m here in defence of the Rumba (as I am every year!). I know a lot of viewers consider it the most “uninteresting” dance on Strictly (not singling anyone out, it just crops up every year), but that’s because of the way it is danced with just a series of poses rather than actually travelling across the floor.

If you watch it danced the way it should be then it’s much easier to appreciate what a beautiful dance it is.

I do appreciate that it is beautiful when done well - it just very rarely is on Strictly (and the overtly "sexy" ones are often a bit vom).

That video I posted was of a top level Rumba routine which obviously we’re never going to see replicated on SCD, but even a basic Rumba moves and flows across the floor. This video is nothing but basic steps yet still moves far more than most of the SCD routines you’ll see.

@Runningupthecurtains totally agree. That’s exactly where SCD have gone wrong. The Rumba is NOT a “sexy” dance, it is a dance of love - a subtle difference!

Do the pros have any input into which dances they get when ?

I was just wondering about the rumba - I seem to recall that last series they hardly had anyone dance this?

I know it is a notoriously hard dance for the celebrities and was just wondering whether Katya was being very clever in getting Adam to dance it very early on when she is hoping that some of the other dancers will get eliminated and therefore he will have more time to train with her and more typical crowd pleasing dances later on eg couples choice,Charleston etc

Not being bitchy but …..

Katy seems totally lacking in any real personality. I thought it was the part she was playing in Corrie but she comes across as the same on SCD. It’s all a bit joyless.

I’m sure she’s lovely off screen.

I thought the same Re Corrie but have since watched her in Waterloo Road (thanks to lockdown and BBC iPlayer) and she's the same in that too. Very dour and nothing really likeable about her despite the fact that the characters are meant to be loveable.

I haven't seen her in Hollyoaks to comment on that but from what I've seen, there is just no charisma coming across the screen.

I like having the results on Sunday. If the results show was on Saturday after the main show it would be too late for kids to stay up and watch, and I like having something to watch on a Sunday!

Then the same happens with the public vote - whoever is bottom of the public vote gets 1 point and whoever is top gets the max number of points and so on. Then both sets of points are added together. So if you’re bottom of the leader board and bottom of the public vote you would have 2 points (1+1).

Ah... I had no idea. Now it makes sense.

@Fenelladepompom - yes. That puts the finger on I feel like watch J&J! I’m not in anyway insinuating any cheating or curse, not at all, but there chemistry is SO intense. Watching them dance is incredible but watching them afterwards, it feels almost awkward & like it’s a private moment 😂

I wonder if it’s maybe the dances they’ve had so far. Quite intense & moody. I kinda hope they get a Charleston next for complete contrast! I cannot imagine them doing one after all this powerful, moody stuff! I think they’ll be good in hold doing the slower ballroom stuff ..
