Anyone watch Succession

Who is your favourite characters in Succession. I thought this was one of the best shows I have seen in ages, can't wait for new season which will be out soon. Lots of great characters in it. Greg, Tom, Roman. Love to hear your take on it..

The only peolle I like in this whole show are Greg (even though he makes me cringe a lot) and Gerri.

I still fond it utterly compelling though

I find it fascinating how part of my brain is always going 'Greg's quite nice', 'poor Greg', 'Greg gets treated so badly' etc, even while the rest of it is going 'God, he's AWFUL.'
He is definitely positioned as hapless and harmless and a bit pathetic, but he's horrible really, isn't he?

Greg is one of those people that seems totally incompetent and yet is steadily climbing the hierarchy. He’s not to be underestimated and could well take them all down !

I know this is two women talking but reminded me of being a woman in Corporate life in the 90’s. Everything is your fault. It’s the kind of thing lots of male managers would have said to me.

Did you noticed in the party episode that Kendall turned on Greg and called him "the world's biggest fucking parasite", "a human tapeworm" and said "Maybe try to stop feeding on your own fucking family and try sucking some blood elsewhere." Of course Kendall was being obnoxious but I thought he was right on the money. Greg seems to insert himself into every family situation, and they just accept him as some piece of harmless wallpaper.

Ah - that’s a side I hadn’t considered. What I took from that scene was that he desperately needed to share the wild ecstasy and relief he felt - but not with his wife and in-laws, only with the one person he felt would actually care.

I agree. Much of his interaction with Greg IS aggressive. The 'teasing' at Caroline's wedding is another case in point. He is a pathetic bully. Compare how he behaves with Greg with how for example he came running when Logan wanted him to help him to the bathroom in the UTI episode.

They all pass down their aggressions to those who seem weaker

Probably why Geri stands out as excellent. Being able to rebuff it and not do it

To my eyes Tom’s aggression is only on the outside. He’s desperate for love - for a relationship where he can express passionate emotion, be that fury, adoration, jealousy, ecstasy, hilarity, within the security of knowing his position won’t be harmed. He can never do that with Shiv, never. And the rest of his associates are also in a position to squash him. So Greg is the only person with whom he can ‘let himself go’. But of course he can’t express, to Greg, the things he would express to a loving wife - so he’s reduced to this monstrous, violent caricature of bro-ness. None of it is actually about Greg (beyond his inferior position in the hierarchy) - it’s about who Tom can be when he’s with him.

Does anyone think Shiv may be pregnant? She was in bed early in the episode saying she didn’t feel great and then I also noticed she declined a glass of wine.

If Shiv is refusing wine because she knows she is pregnant that completely contradicts the conversation she had with Tom about freezing embryos so I can't see that.

I find it astonishing that anyone thinks that Caroline is hard done by. The more you see of her the more you understand why her kids are such fuck-ups. She is utterly toxic, it's not all Logan's fault they are like that.

Logan's hypocrisy over Roman's attraction to Geri made my blood boil - "she's a million years old!" and he's banging his PA who is at least half a century younger than himAngry

Nah, no sympathy for Tom from me here. I rather suspect he got with Shiv because he wanted to be part of the Roy dynasty (She's said a few times that she was a mess when she met him and he saved her, so he got her when she was vulnerable?). He's awful.

And sorry Roman fans, but I absolutely detest the sly, snide little shit. Imo he's the worst of the Roy siblings.

I'm not sure about Kendall. I doubt he drowned, but maybe he's mixed booze and pills, accidentally or on purpose?

What an amazing episode. My favourite so far… so much to digest!

Loved the dick pic scene… Kieran’s acting is phenomenal. Loved his facial expressions. Gerri is fantastic, the way she handled shiv’s fake caring HR chat.

The pasta dinner… with Logan you think he may just surprise you and say something loving/kind but no… everything that comes out of his mouth is pure evil and, what makes it worse, the truth. You start to feel sorry for Kendall, saying he is nothing like his dad and trying to be good, but the reality is he is a murderer who let his dad use his power to cover it up. If he is so morally superior you would think he would hand himself in and take the punishment. Also, if he thought that everything about his dad and business was so corrupt and evil he could just walk away from it all without the money, get a job and make his own way in the world like everyone else has to. But no, he wants that 2 bil first! It’s too ingrained in him, to keep running back to it all (in all of them). The only thing that makes me feel sympathy for him is that he killed the man when he was in the grips of his addiction. An addiction that has been caused by a terribly abusive upbringing and being starved of love his whole life. But still, no excuses for murder really is there!! I don’t think he will die in the pool but possibly in the finale at some point.

And Tom and Shiv, wow. So painful to watch and true he ends up taking out his pent up frustrations and upset on Greg.

I LOVE Shiv’s outfits… every one of them! I love the fact that she doesn’t have a typical Hollywood stick thin body but that also the clothes they dress her in are not supposed to fit and cover her up perfectly (if perfect is a thing!). I don’t think the garden dress looked cheap at all. A pp much earlier on this thread described her having a “big girl’s bum” (in a nice way!) and I loved that! It’s so true, she looks so womanly and her clothes eccentuate her curves, roundness and powerfulness! She comes across confident in herself and not caring about exact standards. It’s empowering! She is also an absolute evil arsehole though so I’m very conflicted Grin

There was just so much to take in on that episode, I could talk in detail about every scene…! Can’t wait for the finale now
