Who is your favourite characters in Succession. I thought this was one of the best shows I have seen in ages, can't wait for new season which will be out soon. Lots of great characters in it. Greg, Tom, Roman. Love to hear your take on it..

Gerri won't go down without a fight. She is far too smart to fall for Shiv's odious and obvious manipulation.

I laughed so much at the dick pic.

Shiv is awful.

But honestly her wardrobe is terrible this season as well. Are the outfits supposed to be so unflattering? The dress in latest episode was not something I'd expect a rich person to wear.

I was thinking that too. As opposed to Willa's dresses, which were gorgeous. Sarah Snook is very zaftig; she needs careful dressing.
Dogatetheleftovers · 06/12/2021 23:13

What do we all think will happen in the last episode? There was so much going on in ep 8 that I can’t see how it will reach some form of conclusion by the end of the next episode.

MintyCedric · 06/12/2021 23:48

Omg yes! Just watched and the turquoise halter neck dress as weird AF on her.

The dicknpock was hilariously awful and the end...blimey.

I wonder what Willa will do? I hope she has other options.

I'm on a fantastic discussion board on Facebook where every possible ending has been discussed. The family dynamics, the sub-plots the sub-texts...everything is pulled apart and analysed within an inch of its life. I love it. And do you know what? Not once has anyone brought up Shiv's weight or what dress she was wearing.

Please know that I was not commenting on her weight at all!! Just everything in the show is so perfectly judged and I found the dress so distractingly wrong. Personally part of the enjoyment of a show like this is the imagery....the settings, houses, yachts and, yes, the clothes. Sarah Snook has an awesome figure. But the dress was cheap looking and not in Keeping with a show where attention to detail is second to none. Apologies to bring the thread down. I certainly did not mean it to come across as a criticism of the actress' figure but more a comment on how someone that rich just wouldn't wear that dress and it bugged me.

Ditto Reddit. The only thing they say is that Shiv is hot.

I can do that too..But most people here haven't seen the episode yet so it would ve spoiling. Which is why I am sticking to inconsequentials.
IntermittentParps · 07/12/2021 09:08

Harriet Walter RULES.
What a comment. 'I shouldn't have had children... I should have had dogs.' Shock
Didn't she and Shiv have an almost identical conversation in England for Shiv's wedding? I remember Shiv saying 'I was seventeen, Mom,' so I guess she was talking about their mother leaving New York and leaving them to their dad?

I think and hope Gerri is too smart to allow herself to take the flak for Roman. In her conversation with Shiv she certainly held her own. But the family (well, Logan) does always seem to come out on top somehow.
Thinking about it, the dick pic needn't cause any damage really. It could be kept between Logan, Gerri, Roman and Shiv and never mentioned again. It looked to me as if Shiv was just trying to leverage it to take down Roman, out of her own envy and frustrated ambition. Logan could well decide, if he wants to keep Roman in line to succeed, to just draw a line under it.
Then again, if the Madsen deal goes tits up, it'd be ideal ammo for Logan to take down Roman…
Madsen was frightening in this ep, IMO. Ultra-rich, quite smart and powerful, and bored –a Nietzschean, frustrated nihilist. If anyone is going to be Roman's downfall it's him. (or possibly the neo-Nazi presidential candidate, or have we seen the last of him?)

Shiv and Tom's 'dirty talk' was beyond close to the bone. 'I don't love you and you're not good enough for me.'

Logan getting Kendall's kid to taste the pasta Shock I feel like Kendall might actually be in the ascendancy again soon. Roman may fall, Shiv is possibly going to self-destruct… I wonder if Kendall has been on the journey all the way to rock bottom/the wilderness and will end up coming back a bigger bastard even than his father and being the only one worthy/shitty enough to take the throne?

Fuck me it was a horrible episode. In the best possible way, of course Grin

LiterallyKnowsBest · 07/12/2021 09:09

TV is a visual medium - there’s no reason at all why we shouldn’t comment on the characters’ clothes!

Was it Kendall who turned up at one point in the world’s ugliest pale green polo top?

I hate almost everything worn by Kerry.

On the other hand I actually took photos of the outstandingly well layered ensemble worn by Josh on his island a few weeks ago.

I recall commenting on the deeply disappointing wrongness of Shiv’s wedding dress. As someone always ready to be captivated by any new look, I admit I’ve struggled with the high necked knitwear and oddly proportioned suiting the wardrobe department has imposed on her throughout the show. It never ever looks comfortable and all too often seems to be at odds with the weather - relative to other characters’ outfits.

I definitely didn’t understand the clothing decisions they made yesterday. In both fabric and cut that particular dress seemed like beachwear - and she wasn’t at the beach.

IntermittentParps · 07/12/2021 09:11

PS I LIKED Shiv in her turquoise dress! It made me think of John Galliano back in the day. Voluptuous and super-female. I think the fact that she wore it with no jewellery and a simple sun hat, and sometimes bare feet, made it look classy. Sort of carelessly luxurious.

Caffeinefirst · 07/12/2021 09:19

I must have very bad taste because I always think how amazing Shiv looks in everything she wears and didn’t think the dresses looked cheap.

IntermittentParps. I feel you may be on to something regarding Kendall..
Fuck, this New Yorker profile of Jeremy Strong is extremely worth reading. He has become his character. And gosh, he takes himself seriously. www.newyorker.com/magazine/2021/12/13/on-succession-jeremy-strong-doesnt-get-the-joke
That is an amazing article.

I can't help but admire his dedication but he must be incredibly challenging to work with.

Maybe not so much to live with as it sounds like he can switch off when he's with his family...not sure what to make of his wife being a psychiatrist though!

CaliforniaDrumming · 07/12/2021 09:32

Why does Kendall always wear brown and snuff colours?

Are we allowed to discuss the episode now?

I think the scales are falling from Tom's eyes and I hope he dumps Shiv.

Harriet Walter was brilliant and I have a lot of sympathy for her with her passel of horrible, egoistic children.

Madsen made me laugh. He is such a tech bro; shades of Elon Musk with his unwise tweeting.

I think Logan is looking for an excuse to take out Geri and any excuse will do. But Geri may hold her own. I am rooting for her to take down Waystar Royco. The scene with her and fake girlboss Shiv was wonderful in its subtlety. "I 'll cope".:)

MarshaBradyo · 07/12/2021 09:39

Great episode

The dinner scene with Kendall and Logan was incredible. So well paced and acted.

I thought the mother was a bit hammy - not her acting so much but some of the lines and stereotype but the Onion scene was fantastic.

Logan still brilliant to watch

Kendall poor thing has folded

LiterallyKnowsBest · 07/12/2021 09:39

The interview with J. Cameron-Smith (Gerri) brought up the point that her character was originally intended to be a man - Jerry.

And now we have Kerry.

Lovely script-writerly nod to the interchangeability of disposable functionaries …

Though I’m crossing everything that Gerri not only holds on to her job but grasps an unarguable upper hand.

MarshaBradyo · 07/12/2021 09:40

Geri was marvellous.

She knew not to pander to Shiv

Great face and some good outfits

I hope Tom realises how badly he is being treated and leaves

I'm always thinking that about Kendall and his brown clothes. Is it his 'besmirched soul'? Agree about Tom. We had a thrilling glimpse, when he thought he was going to prison, of him when he has nothing to lose, and I think we'll see more of that Tom.

Why does Logan is want to take down Gerri?

What did Elon Musk tweet?

hopeishere · 07/12/2021 10:41

I loved the green dress Shiv wore in the party episode. I don't think her dress looked cheap but I'll fitting which would be out of character. I was also very worried about her getting sunburnt!!

I think Kendal might be dead but that would be such a shift.

Shiv is vile. Speaking to Tom that's way and only having a baby to spite her mum. Ghastly.

Roman was showing potential as a successor but let himself down.

I'm missed the onion bit - what was that?

I loved Shiv's green dress at Kendall's birthday too. I also like her office polonecks and her necklaces. I too worried about sunburn but I figured the wide-brimmed hat was for that. I don't think Kendall's dead (see my theory earlier!) Given her mother's attitude I suppose one can't entirely blame Shiv (or the rest) for how they are. The onion conversation was when Shiv and her mum were talking and her mum said 'I shouldn't have had children... I should have had dogs.' She'd said something about how Shiv could make her cry and was 'her onion' and Shiv said 'well, you're my onion too, Mom.' I think that in a twisted way that was them bonding/showing their love Confused Grin

@IntermittentParps Elon has always been a loose cannon on Twitter, but recently Bernie Sanders tweeted something like "The rich should pay more taxes" and Elon responded immediately 'I thought you were dead." He's very churlish. But a lot of tech CEO's think they are God and then go "nut nut". Witness John McAfee, for one.

I am not sure why Logan wants to take down Geri, but assume it is because she is getting too powerful and knows where all the secrets are buried.

Ah, OK.

Yes, Gerri does know a lot, and doesn't have the family loyalty thing; in the end she needn't care that much.

OrtolanVeil · 07/12/2021 13:37

Elon Musk's tweets can/have affect share prices and potentially break all sorts of laws about that (I don't fully understand it but it's pretty much what the Mattsen character has been doing):

OrtolanVeil · 07/12/2021 13:41

This episode was great, so much in it, and awful, obviously!
This series Logan hasn't really revealed much of his character - this episode felt like one of the few times he's said stuff that give us a glimpse of his actual beliefs/attitude (normally he's a fairly closed book apart from business stuff, general aggression, irritability).

The dinner with K was interesting as Logan seemed to try different ways to hurt him, one after the other. Demonstrating he "thought" K might hate him enough to poison him, calling him gay, belittling him, before hitting on the dead waiter as he knows that's a guaranteed button to push. Does he have anything else to him other than working his way through different ways to hurt people?

Nospringchickendipper · 07/12/2021 14:29

I’ve always thought that Shiv dressed in very bland beige coloured suits for work that seem to blend into her hair and skin colouring yet at the party she had vibrant green dress.
I just wondered if she wanted to look a certain way at work.
