Who is your favourite characters in Succession. I thought this was one of the best shows I have seen in ages, can't wait for new season which will be out soon. Lots of great characters in it. Greg, Tom, Roman. Love to hear your take on it..

I definitely need to watch Gerri’s speech again. Roman was so …

😍

iwanttobeonleave · 15/11/2021 20:25

@Justheretoaskaquestion91

I’m surprised and sorry to say I think Greg has become quite unlikeable; this week pushed him over the edge.

Despite myself I always just want Kendall to do well and it’s so mortifying when he pulls stunts like the speech.

I also always want Shiv to fail and I know Tom tracking her cycle was creepy AF but she treats him like absolute shit and I want him to leave her.

Gerri and Roman! ❤️

When did Tom track Shiv's cycle? I missed that ....
hopeishere · 15/11/2021 22:00

I find Greg funny but annoying. I so want Kendal to win. Shiv is awful but the way her dad treated her at the end was horrible. He's so manipulative.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 15/11/2021 22:11

@Justheretoaskaquestion91are you talking about the episode that’s just finished? Tonight was the first time we’ve heard about Tom tracking Shiv’s cycle.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 15/11/2021 22:12

I love Succession and do think it’s streets ahead… but… I would like next week’s to shake it up a bit from an hour of tooing and froing (I’ll get my coat…😬)

BoJoSecretGF · 15/11/2021 22:21

The tension is unbearable. Poor Tom. Matthew Macfadyen has finally exposed the vulnerability in his character. Tom wants Shiv to become pregnant so that he has something to look forward to when he’s in prison and the baby will be the glue that holds their relationship together. Not saying this is right but it’s exposed a crack in Tom’s psyche.

MargotMoon · 15/11/2021 22:31

It was so painful how much Tom enjoyed it when Logan was kind to him and called him "son" (which he obv would never do without being delirious) - and calling him "Pop" in return! Excruciatingly brilliant

josbd · 15/11/2021 22:43

This is wonderfully written and acted. It's a very long time since I sat on the edge of my chair throughout each episode of any show. Succession has grown episode by episode. I don't "see things coming" at all; the twisting and turning of each character is quite horrifying as each one dives deeper into the murk (originally) created by Logan Roy. Not one of them is able to stay untainted; not one is strong enough to simply not care about Logan, the family, or the corporation. Bloody marvellous series!

OrtolanVeil · 15/11/2021 22:49

Anyone else just want Gerri to do everything so everything's nice and normal?!
That episode was almost too much! Brilliant though.

MintyCedric · 15/11/2021 23:09

Ahhh...I've had to avoid the thread all day as I've only just watched it.

It was proper nerve wracking...if I'm honest I didn't want them to do the deal...I would have liked to have seen how the shareholders went & the ensuing chaos.

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole family fronting up to Kendall in the middle of Logan's episode. Tom is creepy AF but did seem slightly more human. Greg is just a tosser.

I need to watch it again for all the nuances between Gerri and Roman...did anyone else notice his tie colour coordinated with her suit Grin?!

OrtolanVeil · 15/11/2021 23:13

Loved the bit at the end where he's bitching at Shiv saying 'I wouldn't have done THAT' and she asks 'so what would you have done?' - 'I'd have figured something out'.
This is spot-on re people that are never satisfied but can't actually think of a perfect solution themselves.

Anyone watched the film 'Cyper'? Part of that is what that shareholder meeting must've felt like...

OrtolanVeil · 15/11/2021 23:13

Cypher, not Cyper!

Bouledeneige · 16/11/2021 00:05

I'm missing the variety of settings in season 1 and 2. Like the wedding in Scotland, the cold mother, the crash - it was more layered.

My fave characters are probably Tom and Greg. But I do like them all - Roman is so sleazy and Roy so nervily desperate. Shiv so ambitious. And Logan is amazing and cruel.

MintyCedric · 16/11/2021 00:18

@Bouledeneige I think there's a visit to Italy at some point I'm season 3...I saw something about filming locations the other day but didn't read it.

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 16/11/2021 01:28

Don’t even know where to start with praise for Ep 5.

Ewan’s unfeasibly perfect country tweeds - a visual denunciation of corrupt city ways. His palpable pain at the punishment he feels bound to administer to Greg.

Roman’s full body orgasm when Gerri mentioned him in her speech. The way he halted and took in the delight at her loyalty - probably the best moment in the episode. They are the best thing in the whole show.

Logan’s UTI delirium (or piss-madness, as Tom termed it) was astonishing. There was a moment when he was completely lost where his expression was exactly that of an elderly relative of mine who suffered the same illness. Possibly the complications of the shareholder tension disguised the sheer terror one feels when someone previously fully compos mentis suddenly becomes unrecognisable and helpless.

Poor Kendall, yet again entering a building in pomp and splendour, only to end, once again, wandering the innards of the building, declaring himself victorious …

Shiv and Tom actually touching each other, for about half a second. And that not ending well. Even though she needs someone in her corner it must be hard to be married to someone you utterly despise.

Loved it. All. Every second. It’s the best thing on any screen right now, by about a million miles.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 16/11/2021 05:22

Shiv exclaiming that Logan was obviously totally out of it when he offered Connor the Europe deal was my first lol moment - so much shade. There were many more after that, but they are so quick fire - you could easily miss loads Grin.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 16/11/2021 05:29

Agree. This was delicious

...I see it that a baby keeps his foot in the family when Shiv invariably leaves him.
Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 16/11/2021 06:28

Roman handling the president call without a single swear word and actually being credible was a huge moment for him.

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 16/11/2021 06:40

It was fascinating to see that Roman is much more important than he believes himself to be. When Shiv decided that they really must try one more time with the Sandy pair, and needed to persuade everyone in the room that it was a good idea, there was a moment when everyone was waiting for Roman’s nod. It mattered - they couldn’t or wouldn’t go over his head.

Formidable (< French version.)

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 16/11/2021 06:43

I’m also finding Connor going from bumbling joke to actually a bit of a problem who is serious about getting something here very enjoyable to watch! It’s really interesting to see the dynamic of the “credible” two, shiv and Kendall, essentially not doing well snd the “fuck ups” starting to improve.

I also really liked how Roman and Connor didn’t support Shiv’s nasty letter, and I feel like that’s part of why Connor was so unpleasant to shiv in ep 4. The sibling dynamics are endlessly fascinating. I hope we get to see Caroline this season.

Claudethecat · 16/11/2021 06:53

I wonder if the lack of variety in settings is because of the pandemic? Brian Cox has diabetes and so I doubt would want to risk travelling if not needed.

"Sure pop....papa"

We had to rewind that we were laughing so much.

ihavespoken · 16/11/2021 10:52

I loved this episode!

A great reminder that Tom is just as much of a creep as the rest of them too. I wonder if Greg will take matters into his own hands and approach DOJ himself and whistle-blow.. is that an option? Has he got the sense to do it if it is?

LoganRoy · 16/11/2021 11:04

I don’t mind the lack of locations but I have to agree each episode has been a bit samey in the constant fire-fighting. Also if there’s no downtime, when are Roman and Gerri going to get together?! Wink Grin

It’s interesting that Logan’s health has been a feature of the last 2 episodes because in the first few I felt he was way more active than in the previous 2 seasons, striding around everywhere with purpose and renewed vigour.
