Who is your favourite characters in Succession. I thought this was one of the best shows I have seen in ages, can't wait for new season which will be out soon. Lots of great characters in it. Greg, Tom, Roman. Love to hear your take on it..

Loved the romcom! “Romcom of the year... if it is to be said” Grin

I loved the Nicholas Braun interview here, I think there’s a strong overlap between him and Greg.

franke · 09/11/2021 17:34

Yes, I was pleading (in my head) with Kendall not to be the first one to break the silence.

I was also ridiculously preoccupied with the waste of all that seafood.
There's a pretty entertaining Succession podcast hosted by comedian Sara Barron and her husband Geoff Lloyd - shows.acast.com/firecrotch-normcore-a-succession-companion-podcast
Ah thanks for podcast link- this is what I need. Need help to dismantle the whole episode!

EdmontinaDancesWithOphelia · 09/11/2021 21:50

I’m not keen on podcasts, so I’ve just been reading every available review.

MintyCedric · 10/11/2021 09:03

OMG I'm so glad I've found this thread - no-one I know in RL watches Succession!

Tom and Greg both make me cringe myself inside out.

Never sure whether to admire Shiv or be totally horrified by her. I think she's probably the coldest character in it.

Kendall is god-awful, how he's even got where he is in life is beyond me as he's as complete joke - Jeremy Strong plays him brilliantly.

I love Gerri and Roman, both as individuals and also am totally shipping them! His reaction to her 'news' on Monday reminded me of a puppy being told off. I find it fascinating that a situation that should be quite cringe inducing seems so natural and quite endearing.

Apparently J Smith Cameron and Kieran Culkin have known each other in RL for years which obviously helps the on screen dynamic.

EdmontinaDancesWithOphelia · 10/11/2021 09:09

Oh, that’s interesting! They do have great chemistry.

In contrast to Tom and Shiv who just give no indication at all of any emotional intimacy.

Nospringchickendipper · 10/11/2021 09:24

I don’t understand Shiv and Tom relationship,I can’t see her why she married him. They seem totally unstable together.

EdmontinaDancesWithOphelia · 10/11/2021 09:34

You know, it’s just occurred to me that Shiv may have felt she needed a husband - for two reasons

First, to provide an easy escape from hopeful men. She must have been incredibly and exhaustingly eligible; the ring is an easy get out for unwelcome attention, but doesn’t hamper her activity at all if she chooses to ignore it. Which is why she needed someone as apparently spineless and abject as Tom.

Secondly, she may have felt that having a man guaranteed to be always on her side, might give her extra weight in discussions with her all male family (and most of the above fourth floor workforce). He doesn’t actually provide weight - but he may still be of use precisely because he’s so powerless. Unless he turns on her.

Claudethecat · 10/11/2021 09:50

Oh I like that info about the Roman and Gerri actors. They do have such brilliant chemistry.

EdmontinaDancesWithOphelia · 10/11/2021 10:53

Hmm … Why does the writer say Roman is ‘strangely sweet’ on Gerri - as if she’s somehow not worthy of lust, adoration, love?

I’m a bit less breathless about their relationship. They’re two people who get each other, fancy each other and retain a viable amount of respect for each other - it’s fun and dangerous and entertaining because they are who they are, with the personalities they’re blessed with. Not really interested in all the snide digs at a middle aged woman enjoying her freedom.

I've always assumed she married him because he provides that unconditional adoration sorely missing from her father (but I may be wrong)

I'd like to think it's less about the age gap and more about the fact that she's Shiv's Godmother so has been on the scene before Roman was born which might make it a bit incestuous in most people's eyes.

I love it though so much so I may have even written some fan fic about themBlush

Ah, it would be lovely if that were true rather than the reality that the writer finds it inexplicable that a rich attractive young man would be attracted to a much older women.

LoganRoy · 10/11/2021 14:21

I hadn’t realised she was Shiv’s godmother!

Also does Logan cheat a lot? I know there was Rhea. Is it just taken as read that he does generally or have I missed something?

When Marcia saw Rhea off she was amazing - saying she had fought and lost, and fought and won, but either way the other one usually lost an eye or something! So steely and menacing!

I took her words to mean he'd had multiple affairs.

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 10/11/2021 17:04

The children have also mentioned Rhea being 'the latest one' as well

JustJustWhy · 10/11/2021 17:20

The (I don't want to say romance) whatever it is between Roman and Geri was deliberately written into the script because Culkin and Cameron flirted outrageously with each other on set.

LoganRoy · 10/11/2021 18:25

Thanks both, I need to pay closer attention!

The (I don't want to say romance)

Funny you should say that, I heard Georgia Pritchett (maybe on Adam Buxton?) talk about she kept referring to their romance and the other writers were clear it wasn’t a romance!

JustJustWhy · 10/11/2021 18:41

It's just brilliant! It's not a romance, it's a...well there's nothing else to define it by! They're not even embarrassed in each other's company, post Roman masturbation!

Tobogganist · 10/11/2021 18:51

Also love the Hot Thing between Roman and Geri.

MintyCedric · 11/11/2021 08:34

For all the Gerri/Roman shippers...Grin

I don't think it's that because at least one of the writers is a middle aged woman
