The series that I can't stop watching even though the storylines are literally incredible. Anyone else clocked Olly for the new lab male totty? How can they possibly manage without Clarissa or someone else in her job?

It's got more gruesome and unbelievable and that's without the current BBC obsession with attractive lesbians. Every BBC programme must have them at the moment. Diversity bingo except everyone is slim and attractive.

Rainbowsew · 29/09/2021 23:19

@BananaRama990

Nikki defo had chemistry with Simi, don't know what it was. Was that the last in this series?
I thought so too! Last one next week...
LetHimHaveIt · 30/09/2021 06:59

I mean - it's patently not the case that there's never been anything between Nikki and Jack until this series. I didn't watch all of 'The Harry Years' but clearly there was a lot of (very tiresome) 'Will they, won't they?' going on there. And viewers were a bit pissed off when he left with nary a backward glance. So they were careful to friendzone Nikki and Jack when he first arrived (the best part of ten years ago?) but there have been various hints that he at least was into her. There were about three seconds from snogging in that episode with Julian Rhind-Tutt (he even says something like 'Get a room!') which I though was two years ago but was in fact four or five. So it's been coming. I expect 'SW' is maybe good for another one maybe two series, so they've waited until now to avoid 'Moonlighting' probs.

Full disclosure - the song choice, and the way she closed her eyes and clutched the microphone was desperate - but I thought the singing was ok. She can hold a tune, tbf.

Italiangreyhound · 30/09/2021 17:40

Singing was lovey.

SuperbOwls · 30/09/2021 19:18

I'm starting to think the writers of silent witness are just trolling us all at this point, it gets more ridiculous with each passing episode. I thought it had peaked with Nikki secretly volunteering at the food bank but I think the karaoke serenade has tipped it.

I want Nikki to disappear off and Clarissa to come back and run the Lyle Centre with Jack as her sidekick.

Hallomother · 30/09/2021 22:43

I love Silent Witness, it’s utterly mad and drives my police officer friend bananas Grin

I agree with the poster who said Nikki and Jack have been signposted since way back, from his side for sure - I think it’s supposed to be a bit of a will they won’t they but just done quite badly Grin

I quite liked Simone. I thought it was a bit off the way the aftermath of Adam was dealt with though - I felt like he was just shock value really.

I also agree that it’s nearing its end now and that’s why they’re going big guns with the Nikki and Jack making eyes at each other because there will be some kind of cliffhanger or obstacle at the end of this series, roll into the next one where they will actually get together and then possibly both leave etc and the series is wrapped up

I miss Clarissa though

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 01/10/2021 08:07

There is no one really in charge at the moment is there which makes it a bit rudderless, I feel.

Isn't this a really short series though? Five stories? They used to run to about ten, didn't they?

I was impressed by Emilia Fox's singing but agreed the karaoke session was 'cringeworthy' in all sorts of ways.

clartymare · 01/10/2021 20:26

I think the karaoke was too much, but obviously designed to give the little 'aha, there IS something there' with Simone when she rocked up. I think they just need to get it together so they can stop being the main focus (or their flirting!). Do we think Simone is sticking around after all?

BaconAndAvocado · 01/10/2021 22:20

I think Simone will stick around. She's shaping up to be an interesting character.

SuperstoreFan · 02/10/2021 07:56

Wait, Nikki was singing because she fancies Simone?

LetHimHaveIt · 02/10/2021 08:17

@SuperstoreFan

Wait, Nikki was singing because she fancies Simone?
No. Poster is saying that the purpose of Simone pitching up was a) to illustrate that she's staying and b) so she could give a wry smile at Jack's longing looks at the stage.
Weedsorwishes · 02/10/2021 08:19

@Fenelladepompom

Not sure how old Nikki is but Emelia Fox is 47 so having a family not really on the cards. Mind you, it is SW we're talking about.
I think I remember in one of the earlier series Nikki was attacked and was unconscious and I think Harry told the paramedics she was early 30s? So given the time span she's probably estimated to be early 40s by now maybe?
Hallomother · 02/10/2021 12:23

I’ve just read the description for the next episode - looks like there could be a bump on my Nikki Jack theory after all unless it’s an obstacle that actually sets them on the right path … but I suspect we are all going to be irritated with Nikki again 😂

LetHimHaveIt · 02/10/2021 13:11

Yes; I did rather fear we'd be seeing that bloke again. He'll probably turn out to be a killer, like all of Nikki's students/staff permitted to do more than nod when she asks them to darn a body bag or fill out a toe tag or whatever . . .

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 02/10/2021 13:25

Which bloke @LetHimHaveIt?

LetHimHaveIt · 02/10/2021 13:29

The one with the far apart eyes (v slightly Remi Malek-looking) who asked her if she'd ever been wrong, or something, in the lecture hall in the first two-parter. Where Jack turned up to finish her sentence and gave us the first hint that this series might be the one where they finally hook up.

BaconAndAvocado · 02/10/2021 13:30

Oh my Christ, she's not going to sing again is she?
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 02/10/2021 13:39

@LetHimHaveIt thanks!

JemimaTab · 02/10/2021 15:12

I just think that getting Nikki and Jack together would be lazy, just an attempt to generate interest when they’re running out of ideas. Plus I’ve never liked TV storylines where a supposedly serious professional woman becomes involved with a colleague - this used to be pretty much compulsory in the 80’s, but I thought we’d got past that.

clartymare · 02/10/2021 15:41

@LetHimHaveIt my thoughts exactly about him being a murderer. Undoubtedly Nikki will make another terrible decision, find herself the damsel in distress, Jack will ride to her rescue...maybe they actually kiss this time then Ta-da Matt the American swans in....cue music

Grin

How close do you think I am?

Depending on how desperate they are for views - Harry swans back in to take over from Thomas?! Grin

I sound like I hate this show, I actually really love it. The best episode for ridiculousness was that one with the amazing house at Christmas where Nikki traipsed all over the place making all kinds of rookie forensic mistakes...

Italiangreyhound · 02/10/2021 18:19

Ok so we need Harry back to take over the Lyle, Jack and Nikki hook up, Nikki sleeps with them both and then gets pregnant and doesn't know who the gather is. But she picks Jack and he is the dad. That's be good. Plus a few murders.

Italiangreyhound · 02/10/2021 18:20

Father not gather!

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 02/10/2021 18:22

The embarrassingly earnest karaoke scene was toe-curling.

sleepyhoglet · 02/10/2021 21:15

Hope I won't be disappointed. I loved The Missing but gave up on Baptiste and have also loved Silent Witness but it's been going a while! Waking the dead was good but my favourite was the one that only had a couple of series and it's gone out of my mind now. The lead actress's character took early retirement due to stress

sleepyhoglet · 02/10/2021 21:17

It was unforgotten.
