I agree! In the first episode I barely recognise him! Maybe it's a combination of lockdown weight and possibly hair dye?! I used to quite fancy the rugged fighter jack 😂

Oh god please don’t tell me that this is all shock value build up just for Nikki and Jack to get together next episode? I have my suspicions that it will turn out she had her drink spiked and then somehow it will all end with them almost getting together at the end. Which will mean this terrible episode was just because of their relationship? Which is maddening, I miss the actual forensic pathology plots!

They should just get them together and get over it rather than keep putting them randomly with other people for drama - those who care generally seem to want them together and those who don’t just want actual half decent plots.

Surely next series has to be the last one now?

Well that was fucking shite. Hopefully Nikki gets fired for unprofessional conduct and terrible karaoke. Jack can get together with nice blind date, policeman can split up with his fiancee and stop taking phone calls while investigating a murder, and they can draw a line under the whole sorry mess.

Well really Nikki! There was me thinking the dodgy student was going to get sleazy and creepy and jack would have to come in and "save her". Mind you that could still happen we haven't had Nikki "in crisis" for a couple of weeks

Nikki makes bad decisions but I’m not sure the writers would let their precious Dr Alexander make this one … I really think it will turn out she’s been spiked or something so she has a get out

Also agree about plastic Jack. Quite like cage fighter Jack. He’s definitely put on weight and they’ve done a bad job on his hair dye - they keep dressing him in weirdly bulky things that make him look bigger as well - but if the actor has basically stacked on some lockdown pounds I don’t blame him, can relate. I do like his knitted cardigan though, I actually want it for myself

Well, I’m interested (or not really) to see what happens tomorrow night. I think watching it unfold on twitter might be more entertaining than actually watching it you know!

No-one's behaving like normal people. Tbe care home would have moved the Lodge residents to the main building hours earlier, before it was pitch black, chucking it down and with thunder and lightening strikes.

Nikki wouldn't be going to a party in the midst of a storm so bad the military are being shown on tv to manage the disruption. She also wouldn't be shagging a student, especially such a creepy controlling one who snatched her phone and wouldn't give it back.

You've all properly made me laugh. I save both episodes for a Wednesday and watch them back to back so reading your spoilers and trying to decipher what the hell is going on it most amusing.

Whoever decided to give jack that bloody knitted grandad Cardigan should never work in tv costuming again. I confess I rather fancied David caves myself until this series.

@2Rebecca to work in the lyell you need ALL the skills - cage fighting, forensic science, cardigan wearing, stepping in to show the detectives how to do their job, knowing how to euthanise dogs is just the tip of the ice berg

Howling at some of your comments! What on Earth is going on. The care home thing is bizarre- presumably Jack arrived in his car, so why can’t he drive the residents up to the lodge rather than bundling them through the storm? What on Earth was Nikki thinking even going to that party?!

@KilledByWitches oh god why did you have to bring the singing up again 🙈🙈 I swear Jack has had too many head injuries if it was that performance that made his feelings clear to him. He puts up with her nonsense way more than I would though. Remember when they got back from Mexico and he was giving her the cold shoulder? I thought it was because she broke free and was prancing around on the coast instead of, you know, letting him know she was still alive. But no, it was because he didn’t save her.

Many universities have got much stricter about student/ lecturer liaisons even PhD or masters students as it's recognised as an imbalance of power. Nikki shouldn't be able to wriggle out of this one. It should have been clear the student fancied her and she needs to stop acting like a teenager.
Still annoyed about the dog. The owner was the one who was distressed and wailing and the poor dog cops it to shut her up.

And as for Nikki making googly eyes at one of her students. In this day and age? (Nevermind her supposedly serious - if admittedly unconvincing - long-term relationship with the American chap). And then rubbing up against him on the dance door in front of multiple witnesses, and then shagging him, instead of saying at the start “this is not appropriate”. It would not happen. (And it very much didn’t look like a spiked drink incident from how it was played).
Though I suppose it would be an interesting way to end the series - Nikki getting suspended/sacked for inappropriate sexual conduct. And Jack being investigated by the RSPCA.

They've belaboured the point that these are postgrads. This making it ok for Nikki (early/mid 40s; tutor) to shag one (25?). Hmmmm.
