Who is your favourite Downton sister?

Having a Netflix binge. I bloody love Edith I'm rooting for her! She's constantly getting hurt and being overlooked by everyone. I know she comes across as bitter and downtrodden but yet she's kind and helpful and supportive. She's the one I'd want as a friend :-)

She was quite annoying for a long while but then after she got jilted at the altar I softened a bit towards her (and her dress was beautiful!!). The whole Marigold debacle was really poorly handled though. Poor Mrs Drew.

I like Mary best - her cold heartless demeanour covering up a softer side that we rarely got to see. Could see her ending up like Grandmama with her cutting one liners!!

Oh crap - hope that wasn’t a spoiler!! Was presuming you were rewatching rather than watching the first time given how old it is!!

Oh Mary hands down. Her breakdown after a Matthew was heartbreaking. And her relationship with Carson was so cute!

Edith pissed me off constantly, too weak and feeble!

Sybil - Just so sweet and lovely, but brave and strong too with her work ethic and rebellious love.
Mary is great as well, a difficult character but a good heart underneath.
Edith was my least favourite, but I felt a bit sorry for her as time went on and warmed to her in the end. I think she just wanted to be loved.

Excepting the dead one, who I can't remember - Mary is the best of the 2. No one wants to be an Edith - dreary and easily offended and undoubtedly boring to be around. Give me a Mary any day.

I started watching it a few years ago but it fizzled out after a few episodes. I'm really into it now but I know a lot of what happens anyway so you're forgiven lol.

I absolutely love Mr Bates. I don't think he's popular on here but he's my perfect man personality wise. Strong, quiet and loyal. Oh and Matthew is HOTTTTT!!

Mrs Hughes and Carson are adorable! As are Anna and Bates (though he was a little creepy at times, he clearly loved Anna).

I find Mary very up her own arse, she's my least favourite tbh although when she walked into the room wearing her horseriding outfit and hat (met Matthew for the first time) she was breathtaking.

Mary is my favourite but I do really warm to Edith by the end of the series

Mr Bates and Anna is the dullest most repetitive and miserable storyline, I hate that so much of the show is dedicated to them.

I find all the sisters pretty dreadful in their own ways. Sybil could have been a great character but is tedious somehow. There are so many great characters though - love Violet, Carson and Anna especially.

I do feel Edith is a bit overlooked but I didn’t like her betrayal of Mary over the Turkish bloke and the Marigold debacle with Mrs Drew wasn’t great.
Mary is definitely going to be her grandmother in 40 years time!!

Matthew’s hotness is so weird and inconsistent. Sometimes he’s really, ridiculously hot and other times his neck is the exact same width as his face and he looks like an awful rugby boy in a student union.

Oh it has got to be Mary. Sybil wasnt around long enough and Edith is tedious. I know Mary comes across as haughty and a bitch but she is born into aristocracy so probably is allowed some hautiness and she is only really bitchy to Edith. She has some wonderful put downs.

I also love Bates.

Sybil is really sweet. I actually like Edith. Mary is spoilt really isn't she. Their parents are really negative towards Edith (I'm only on season 3) and encourage it in Mary.

I quite fancy Mr Bates even though I agree that he is creepy. Then again I also fancy Lord Grantham, Thomas and, ahem, sometimes Carson. I don’t know if I just get carried away by the house and the suits.

I’ve just finished Downton today having never seen it and I absolutely loved it. Edith ended up being my favourite sister - her character development throughout the series was lovely to watch. Sybil was nice but overall quite dull. Mary was vile and I’m baffled as to why so many men were obsessed with her.

Cora is hideous to Edith! No wonder Edith’s a cow sometimes, especially to Mary. Some posters on here would have an absolute field day with that mother-daughter dynamic. Not to mention Robert’s clear preference for Matthew over any of the girls. Women had (still have) such a shit time.

I sort of love Mrs Patmore but the repetitive schtick with her moaning at Daisy and Daisy being the downtrodden kitchen maid is hard work. Daisy just irritates me - annoying face, annoying voice, annoying behaviour. Although I did think Mrs Patmore and Mrs Hughes were really unfair to her over William.

Edith all the way, though I do like Mary’s posh drawl.
Sybil is too good to be true.
I am on s3, didn’t watch first time round. The plotting is starting to annoy me. Constant obvious misunderstandings between servants and playing tricks on each other used as a plot device. Ffs if Thomas does something to you, tell Mr Carson, don’t come up with some kind of revenge trick to get your own back that will inevitably backfire.
Clothes, however, continue excellent.
