Having a Netflix binge. I bloody love Edith I'm rooting for her! She's constantly getting hurt and being overlooked by everyone. I know she comes across as bitter and downtrodden but yet she's kind and helpful and supportive. She's the one I'd want as a friend :-)

When Bertie was flying to Tangiers I think to repatriate his cousin's body & Mary says something along the lines of why/what is it to do with him & Edith says that he is his heir.

Her face was a picture when she realised Edith would soon outrank her.

@drinkingwineoutofamug

It's £1600 to stay for 3 nights in one of the gatehouses That's self catering, they give you a welcome basket, but you have to pay extra to visit the castle . A bottle of highclere gin is £36 , bottle of champagne £39 A bloody Christmas tree decoration is £14 !
Gosh you'd think they at least include the castle visit in the price Shock

I was extremely late to the Downton party so downloaded it onto my tablet and watched on my commute once I started going back into the office.

I liked them all in their own ways. Edith definitely took some warming to, but I felt for her so much over the Michael Gregson affair and loved the way she took over the magazine (Violet's butler as the agony aunt - priceless!). Sybil was sweet but determined, and Mary eipitomised the brittleness of the age I think, but was obviously very caring underneath.

And I loved the clothes, especially the 20's evening dresses.

Have just re watched for the third or fourth time!
I prefer Mary I think even though she can be a bitch... I liked Matthew but Henry suits Mary much better and is very fanciable if I say so myself 😉
I ,love the way she becomes more vulnerable and softer in his presence.
I sobbed at Sybil’s deathbed scene though, especially Cora’s grief afterwards.
I loved the Thomas character and cheered at his eventual good fortune...

Henry was gorgeous! So was Thomas tbh. I don't know why Rob James-Collier hasn't been in more since Downton ended.

Hated Mary - partly for making so clear that she would have rejected Matthew if he wasn't the heir and partly for doing naff all during the war, except for singing a song and then whinging about having to do it

Edith. I’m so glad it all turned out well for her in the end. I could never really see why Mary was so popular with the menfolk.

And I know Tom wasn’t a sister, but I’m so glad he had a happy ending.

QuietFlame · 05/10/2021 19:12

Oh I loved the way Tom becomes such a part of the family!

He and Mary had a lovely brother/sister relationship, and I liked how he called her out on her behaviour in the penultimate episode.
