New thread!

Why would Canada send Serena back to Gilead? They want to prosecute her for war crimes.

Does anyone know how or if the series was impacted by covid? Is that why we've seen a much smaller cast this time?

ElephantOfRisk · 03/08/2021 11:13

The relative timelines always seem askew and you really notice this with the age of the babies/children. They seem to stay younger than they should be even though you know more time has passed, which you can also tell from the pregnancies, unless that's just me?

I agree, I don't get the 7 years thing. I've said before I reckon it's about 5 years since June was taken. In the S1 episode with Luke's escape, the scene in Canada says 3 years later on the screen. Add on June's pregnancy and Nicole being around a year old and it's about 5 years. No way is Hannah 12!
ElephantOfRisk · 03/08/2021 11:26

Hannah looked about 5 in series one? Janine's baby seemed to be a baby forever!

Clawdy · 03/08/2021 12:00

June's permanently furious face is beginning to really annoy me now, I'm starting to dislike her, I'm afraid.

oneglassandpuzzled · 03/08/2021 12:21

If environmental calamities have caused widespread crop failure in North America, why are Canadian supermarkets full of fresh fruit and veg?

Presumable because Candy has good international relations and can trade with the rest of the world without sanctions.

In previous series we have seen the Gilead Commanders bemoaning the sanctions imposed on them and lack of international trade as a result.

ElephantOfRisk · 03/08/2021 12:26

I thought everything was recovering, sure even in gilead they were getting better - didn't Lawrence say something about it at some point? Might be confused though. There were certainly shortages when they first arrived in Canada.

Saidtoomuch · 03/08/2021 12:58

I think the plentiful supplies in the supermarkets suggest that Gilead isn't as sucessful as it pretends to be in food production and clean up. Or perhaps they over stated the contamination to control their citizens?

oneglassandpuzzled · 03/08/2021 13:04

Interesting!

Well she’s hardly going to be skipping around with a big smile on her face, is she?
BIWI · 03/08/2021 13:10

… although there was a scene with her, Luke and Nichole playing in the park where she looked a bit happier/more carefree

therearenogoodusernamesleft · 03/08/2021 13:17

The moment when she confronted Serena! Soooo good!

ohthestruggles · 03/08/2021 14:22

Do we think we will get back to knowing what commander lawrence and aunt Lydia meant by 'making Gilead great again' or whatever it was? I am now more interested in those two than June I'm afraid 😭 apologies if it has been clear, I have been watching on and off the last few episodes as I'm finding it hard to stay enthused by it.

ChequerBoard · 03/08/2021 14:36

The whole 'making Gilead great again' is surely a veiled reference to Trump and the MAGA movement.

It's also clearly a signal that Lawrence isn't really on June's side at all and still believes in Gilead as a new world order.

I agree. He was bored and wanted to stir things up a bit.

GrandPrismatic · 03/08/2021 14:59

The scene where she met Rita….brilliant TV moment.
Also how natural she was with Nicole. Loves that.

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 03/08/2021 15:19

Just marking my place, but I'm positive serena had sex with Tuello? When she agreed to go back to Gilead and 'get' Fred?

Twizbe · 03/08/2021 15:48

Do you remember when Serena met Tuello in Canada before, he said that they had made advancements in fertility treatment and if she came with him she could have a baby.

I wonder if she did take him up on that offer ...

ChequerBoard · 03/08/2021 15:51

Well I had a vague recollection of a Tuello/Serena moment earlier on too.Don't google it like I just did as I accidentally read a major end of season spoiler (not Tuello/Serena) related than I now can't unlearn!

dapsnotplimsolls · 03/08/2021 16:01

I'll be VERY cross if we're suddenly presented with a flashback of Tuello and Serena together!

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 03/08/2021 16:02

Yeah thats why I haven't googled! 😬
I definitely remember her taking her clothes off in the airport, but was that just when she changed...? 🤔

SoupDragon · 03/08/2021 16:06

I also thought Serena and Tuello had sex but the Wiki entry for the episodes doesn't say anything like that at all. They definitely had a connection but maybe it didn't go that far in the end. Didn't he suggest she go to Hawaii or something and he could join her there?

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 03/08/2021 16:09

I carefully read the list of previous episodes, and I'd guess it was episode 5 of s3. Wiki only says this though... "After unsuccessfully trying to convince Serena to defect for a second time, Mark hides a satellite phone in Serena's purse when she returns to Gilead, so she can contact him if necessary."
