Hi all,

This is @StillCoughingandLaughing. My account got deleted because someone accused me of racism and, even though her accusations were removed, the fact that I fought back was apparently worse than making false allegations in the first place. Hence no more account.

I just wanted to say how much I’ve enjoyed talking Corrie with you all Smile I’m sorry that it’s over. All the best to anyone who sees this before it’s deleted x

Would a bank give someone £10,000.in cash like that?

Someone’s Rita’s age and for no apparent legitimate reason, unless Rita lied and said it was for adaptations to her house or something, particularly as she had just deposited into the savings account recently then no, there’d be instant suspicion, and it would probably be passed up to whatever the exploitation department is called these days. And possibly a money laundering investigation would be opened.

TheVolturi · 26/06/2021 11:59

Our bank require you to order the money, if its over 5k. So you have to order it at least 24hrs before, you can't just turn up and ask for 10k. Halifax.

Roussette · 26/06/2021 12:03

Agree United
We had to draw out ££££ a few years ago, you won't believe the hoops we had to jump through. And it will be even worse now I'm sure.

As if Rita could 'pop to the bank' and come out with £10,000

UhtredRagnarson · 26/06/2021 12:10

Most banks have an age threshold for where it would raise concern if the person was uncharacteristically withdrawing a large sum, and that’s just if they’re transferring it via bacs or internal transfer. If they were withdrawing in cash there’d be alarm bells going off all over the place.

I thought this too! Surely the bank have a duty of care allowing a very elderly person to walk out with thousands of pounds in her handbag..
UhtredRagnarson · 26/06/2021 12:29

They do. There is a legal responsibility there to ensure the person isn’t being exploited and the funds used for illegal purposes. The fact Sharon gave the £10k to Rita and then Rita took it back out so quickly would have the money laundering team on it in a flash.

UhtredRagnarson · 26/06/2021 12:30

I’ve worked in a bank and a credit union. In the bank this sort of thing was rare. I’m the credit union it was shockingly common.

eggandonion · 26/06/2021 13:52

I agree about credit union not being as secure re cash withdrawal. I'm always amazed I can get a wad of cash for a builder.
Maybe the new bar man is Debbie's son, or Ray's son or Ken's other grandson. I hope he is nice.

FlowerOfTheValley · 26/06/2021 18:47

Thanks for the new thread @WomanStanleyWoman. I hope you’re okay and able to stay.

I think Emma’s date seems nice but sadly the writers don’t seem to do normal these days so he will probably have a dodgy back story and hurt Emma.

ChildOfFriday · 26/06/2021 21:39

Thanks for the thread @WomanStanleyWoman. I also hope you can stay- your thread titles are fab!

So Jenny is buying Jonny's half? How much would a back street pub outside the city centre be worth?

Daisy only needed 5% of that half would it really need an appointment with a bank manager? They didn't put together a business plan so just a regular loan then? I can go on my banking app now and get a loan very easily. Are they trying to say she went in and told them her job was in MLM but the bank manager gave it to her anyway as she was dolled up??

desperatehousewife21 · 27/06/2021 07:45

The very fact she even had to physically go to a bank all dolled up for a loan is so outdated.
We got a £4000 loan for a car online in minutes Hmm

I really hope Alina isn’t pregnant it’s such an obvious route to go down and really boring.

Clawdy · 27/06/2021 08:25

It intrigues me that Purple Bricks are selling the Rovers! Did they pay for that advertising?

Yeah I imagine that would have cost a fortune!!

It never seems to have been specified that Jenny is only buying half the pub, but surely she’d be entitled to at least a share, even if it wasn’t half because of the length of the marriage. (In reality of course, they wouldn’t sell until divorce proceedings were fully underway, but obviously that doesn’t make for as much drama.)

I agree that a bank manager would smell a scam, or at least a bad risk, the minute Daisy mentioned Double Glammy. Also, why would the company drop her because of Sean’s actions? Surely they’d be pleased to have her publicly disassociate herself from him?

I'm happy to suspend belief when I'm watching tv, but Coronation Street is really pushing my boundaries now. We are currently sorting a mortgage (it's just a small amount, and there should be no issues) but it's taking an enormous amount of paperwork, meetings, etc, yet Jenny can organise hers in a matter of minutes!

Trunkybun1 · 28/06/2021 15:42

Johnny and Jenny aren’t even legally married are they? I remember he ended up in hospital on the planned wedding day and they said some kind of vows to each other at the bedside instead. Am I forgetting them actually having a legal ceremony after that?

Trunkybun1 · 28/06/2021 15:45

Ah I just googled it it was Rita’s bedside they said the vows at but I still didn’t think it was a legal ceremony

Trunkybun1 · 28/06/2021 15:50

I found the YouTube clip Holy Billy officiated and the whole thing lasted about 40 seconds Hmm

lardylegs123 · 28/06/2021 17:38

I've just caught up on a couple of weeks' worth of episodes. Fizz is incredibly irritating. Why must she speak and act as a 70 year old woman Confused
I hate myself for saying this, but I never did blame Tyrone for wanting to leave. Blush
Gemma's annoying too.

SmellThat · 28/06/2021 18:59

Glad you are still here OP nothing worse than being falsely accused of something
Corrie is all over the place at the moment. It's really not holding my interest

Akire · 28/06/2021 19:02

It’s pain when you can’t talk about them straight away. By the time it’s been “live” you have forgotten what’s happened!

Agree does seem flat even though we had court case we have been waiting for months and we still have Who killed Seb to go. I hope the case lasts longer than this one.

Belledan1 · 28/06/2021 19:41

I don't get how so many people can work in the pub when hardly anyone in it.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/06/2021 03:05

Why are the writers making a story about James being gay. What's the big deal. Did I miss something. Have we gone back to the 80s.Confused

SophieB100 · 29/06/2021 05:45

@WomanStanleyWoman
Thanks for the new thread, and hope all ok. Fear not, we will start a protest for you if necessary - like "Free the Weatherfield one" for Dreary after evil Jon ripped her off all those years ago.

I'm all over the place with the episodes - last one I watched had Ty and Fizz getting a mediation session in ten minutes, little girlfriend of said Ty moping about looking pale and fretting about producing another little Ty and Rita carrying around wads of cash in her bag. Can't remember much else.
Classic Corrie is great at the mo!
