yes i wnated him to put it in his pocket!

VolcanicEruption · 12/06/2021 21:21

Just finished 3rd episode. It was all a hard watch. As well as the dialogue the actors faces showed such raw emotions. It also showed how easily humans can become flawed.

feliznavidad2 · 12/06/2021 21:48

I just wanted him to hit the guy with his food tray. 🤨

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/06/2021 19:52

@Sojo88

Re Mark's sandwich - I felt probably unnecessarily pissed off that he never made any effort to keep it! Every time he just put it on his tray and walked slowly past the guy who kept taking it - why not actually hold it or shove it in your jumper or something?! He could totally have tried harder. But yeah, as I say maybe too invested in his sandwich Grin
Guess to scared to :(

Am not reading all the posts as have only watched 2 eps so far. It is horrific but I can't stop watching. I suppose a true picture of what prison life can be like.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/06/2021 23:08

E2 was on tonight

This is a spoiler free thread so should be able to read posts without ruining it

Tonight was good - very realistic

Guess when your family is at risk you sometimes do what you don't think will do. Eric

I cringed at the feet. Thought he was going to lose them

Glad Mark finally showed some
Balls. You have to or be the Bully's plaything

Sad the family didn't want to know his apologies but understandable

Sad also about how wife divorcing him

Why didn't Eric say to coppers he was a prison officer and got smashed by a distraught inmates family

I did a teaching placement in a Cat A prison. Thankfully very short. I was shitting myself most of the time, especially as the men were so big!

Teaching basic kitchen skills (with knives involved) was NOT fun. Art was much better.

Much respect to those who do work in prisons.

DinosaurDiana · 14/06/2021 14:39

Just popped on to say how much I’m liking this.
I feel so sorry for Eric and Mark, even though I shouldn’t !
Shame that Aneurin Bernard went out so quick, but thought he played it very well. He was great in Cilla as well.

goneroguetoday · 14/06/2021 23:10

I didn’t find the nun chaplain convincing. The catholic nuns I’ve met don’t wear makeup or have highlights.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/06/2021 01:08

I’m wondering how this can end

Will Eric the guard be found out

Will he be inside

What will happen to Mark

It's a hard watch.
Not light entertainment on a Sunday evening that's for sure.
It gives a really good insight into the harsh realities of the prison system / prison life.
Brilliant acting by Sean Bean and Stephen Graham.
@Blondeshavemorefun it can't end well. Sad

Mydogisagentleman · 15/06/2021 10:34

Just seen number 2. It really is compelling.
Was cringing at the turpentine.
Jackson is a very intimidating man. Quiet menace

MozzchopsThirty · 15/06/2021 12:03

Very disappointed with the 2nd episode
Thank god it's only 3
It's like watching paint dry

I'm only watching for Stephen Graham Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/06/2021 14:28

You don’t like @MozzchopsThirty

I've seen the first and second eps and I am completely gripped.

In no particular order:

  1. It's tragic to watch a good man, SG, do a bad thing. You can really feel the pressure he is under.
  1. It's just so sad and awful - people self-harming, inflicting terrible violence on each other, using drugs for the first time in prison..
  1. I was totally shocked and stunned by the sugar and the turps. Unimaginably horrific.
  1. Not being a grass really does seem to be the top priority, doesn't it. From the sugar guy explaining his story in the nun's group to SB and the bully insisting it was all a nothing to the governor.
  1. I don't know how it is in women's prisons. I know I wouldn't survive it if it was even a fraction as horrendous as this.
Housewife2010 · 16/06/2021 11:42

I've watched all three episodes. I thought it was incredibly well done and so moving. Sean Bean was fantastic.

Fluffmonkey82 · 17/06/2021 00:25

I watched the last episode tonight and agree Sean Bean was great.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/06/2021 05:46

@Batlou I think you are totally Rigjt on all points

DinosaurDiana · 17/06/2021 08:39

Just watched the last episode.
Sean Bean was great, as ever !
The thing that struck me was the wife of the dead man, she played it with such hatred and anxiety that it made me want her to not have that for the rest of her life. Such a terrible thing to happen, yet she is left with a life of anger/grief.

Why aren't people going to the spoiler thread to discuss the whole series????

LadyEloise · 17/06/2021 10:07

As usual Jimmy Mc Govern's writing is brutal, grim, eye opening and brilliant.
It shows the prison system is broken and not fit for purpose.
But how to fix it ????

Where in the world is doing it well ?
Could the same be done in the UK and in Ireland ?

I would find having to share a tiny cell with a stranger awful.

EversoDelighted · 17/06/2021 11:37

I binged it over two nights, having read most of this thread first. I was watching on an Ipad - quite glad to not have been watching some of the more brutal scenes on a big screen. I didn't notice problems with sound as I always use subtitles and have them defaulted to on on the Iplayer app.

I thought it was brilliant.
